I think that 23XI might do better if both teams, as well as Hamlin (their owner/fellow competitor), simply take the time to work on pit road issues, and start working more to build on consistent performance, and overall team confidence. The more they struggle, especially Wallace, the more their confidence and morale will drop. They just need to work on turning their weaknesses into strengths, and they’ll get better.

23XI is NASCAR's Ferrari in terms of how inconsistent that team is during races. Think of the countless times Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace have lost potential wins and top 10s because of pit crew errors and poor execution, just like the countless times Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have lost wins and podiums due to poor strategy.

23XI is a team that's good but seems to have gone through a lot more turbulence than other recent start-ups like Trackhouse, both of which are teams that I like and are appropriately comparable.
I ran a bunch of numbers and both teams have the same amount of wins (excluding the SVG one-off thus far), though Chastain kind of carries with a ton of Top 10s and Top 5s compared to everyone else; average finish for Trackhouse is 16.84 and 23XI is 18.75 (17.92 if you exclude Gibbs' tenure), so roughly the same. Of course I feel like you can not always go by the finishing stats and one has to take into account the performance of a team or driver across an entire race, and I feel like... while Trackhouse is better at being consistent and staying out of trouble, 23XI comes across has having really good strong runs the end up getting squandered due to an on-track incident or a pit-road issue. They do indeed have the speed, but it seems like the teams just kind'a stumble over their own feet a lot; they have really solid highs, but a lot more lows than Trackhouse. Their inconsistency is presently their Achilles' heel. I think if 23XI can manage to do to their teams... whatever Justin Marks did with Chastain earlier this year, I think they will be better for it, but it's hard to say that it'll work.

I think on a more statistical basis, we've seen pit crews win and lose races. By that logic we've seen them win and lose Championships in years past. I'm sure many of us will think of moments that defined a driver's season in years past, especially with how critical 1 bad stop can change the fate of a driver in 3 race series and a 1 race shootout. If you don't have the driver, the crew chief, and the pit crew to make it happen on the track, Championships won't happen. 23XI has great potential in becoming a top team, but there's definitely things to clean up on pit road.

I think you are being far too harsh on Bubba. He’s run much better this year and has been super clean racing at the front of the pack. The last 12 races I’d say he’s run as well or better than Reddick. He’s gotten far more on top of his emotions and has done a great job this year of not letting his emotions cost him on the track, even though there has been more than a few instances where he could have gotten really frustrated after being cost a lot of spots through no fault of his own. He’s done a fantastic job of understanding the assignment and keeping himself in good spots to pull in the points and keep himself above the cut off line. He’s still got a tendency to be really hard on himself, but he’s learned to use it as motivation more than a distraction. The cup series is in a place now where the whole field is closer than it’s been in a long time on pace, so a mistake on pit road is probably not going to be made up on track bc the difference between a great car and a good car is a far smaller margin than years past. I also think people forget how much of a push he made during the playoffs last year while running for the owners championship. He’s one of the cleanest guys on the track (barring the Larson incident) and rarely drives over aggressive in traffic. He doesn’t tear up equipment, he’s getting more consistent all the time and becoming a fixture at the front of the pack.

They have shown the speed on the track. So I don't think they have glaring problem there. Top 10's should be expected. The Pit crews from JGR were going to be the 5th and 6th best of their pit crew pool and that's a no brainer. The best 4 crews are going to the house cars. This year they hired some of those guys and a few outside. But they have no depth. And Denny talked about that this week too. There has also been some terrible strategy calls made by both teams, but the 23 has had the worst end of it. Constantly running top ten top 5 then having to come back form 20-25th. And it always late in the race too where its extremely difficult to do.

I think 23xi is doing pretty well. They just have a few minor tweaks to make to really be a contender.
If I'm 23xi, I'm letting Bubba keep his pit crew until he's locked in. He has no real shot at winning a championship. Then give his best guys to Reddick since he's the better driver.
I've been called a "Bubba hater". He's definitely better this year. He tends to fade at the end of races but gets stage points. Reddick is usually running around top 5 and then an issue happens.

The pit crews are a problem for sure, but the drivers make their share of mistakes too. The video is correct in that Tyler can occasionally overcome his or the teams mistakes. Bubba is pretty good, but not the kind of talent that can overcome obstacles. He really needs everything to go well. But, Denny is part owner and I just don’t think he can build the kind of culture to win championships. He’s not an overly likable or respectable guy.

They’ve fueling the jump to 3 cars in 2024-2025
They need a Top 10 points finish before they expand. They can’t just keep being a bubble team, especially when they are Toyota/JGR funded. Rebuild the pit crew and focus on getting consistent results. Don’t expand to 3 cars until at least one of your cars can regularly compete for wins or you get at least one Round of 8 car in the fight for the championship

What about Hamlin? In my point of view MJ would be the money guy and Hamlin the expertise, the i.q guy, like Brad K. And he doesn't seem committed enough, why he is not driving fir he's own team. Maybe MJ should be more evolve.
But giving take a look into Manchester City football club, they we're brought by Abu Dhabi group of investment, with the chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak not having the expertise, what he does? Signed the best on the business, Barcelona former director Ferran Soriano and Barcelona former director of football Txiki Bergeistain.
23xi seems to have too good of intention, and no competitive organization can be build on good intentions. They need that Hamlin gets in, if he is not up to give up on he's driving ambitious on Joe Gibbs then they need another partner.

They will NEVER be anything as long as Wallace is the Primary driver. Ever. His fans aren’t gonna wanna hear that, I don’t care. Reddick and Kurt absolutely lap him in the talent department, the fact they all have 17th place finishes just shows how stupid it is that he is their #1. Wallace absolutely deserves to be in the series, and shouldn’t be on a backmarker team either. But he also shouldn’t be the primary driver,if you ever hope to truly compete. There is no reason Chastain would be getting trackhouse leftovers, cause he is the much MUCH better driver. If you switch drivers tomorrow, but don’t change a single other thing in 2311, Reddick makes the top 8 easy barring disaster, and Wallace is in 17th or 18th fighting these last 3 weeks to make it in.

  • @godsmacking99
    @godsmacking99 Год назад

What hurt 23XI's advancement was losing Kurt Busch and getting him taken out of the car and stopping him from developing that team to his max ability. I'm aware he's still involved with the team in an auxiliary capacity but it's not the same as him being in the car and pointing them in exactly the direction they need to go. They lost a lot when they lost Busch.
Reddick is a great driver but he notoriously overdrives and it gets him into trouble more often than not, he would do so well with a veteran to come in as a teammate and reign him in. Reddick and Wallace are two young drivers still, it's tough to build on team on two guys that still have a lot to learn themselves. Same reason a team like Trackhouse has stalled out now too, the competition caught up to them and the veterans are back to dominating the series again. Hence the success of RFK this year directly as a result of Keselowski. Trackhouse is another team that could use a veteran presence.
What will help 23XI next year is Legacy becoming another Toyota team, that's another teams resources they could use and Jones and JHN are no slouches behind the wheel, not to mention Johnson as an owner coming into the Toyota fold. I feel like Gibbs kinda helps the satellite Toyota teams but they also kinda have a history of not doing as much as they could either. Furniture Row's success was a lot on their own but they still didn't get enough Toyota support to keep them going, same with Leavine. 23XI and Legacy have enough support behind them that they could potentially usurp Gibbs as the top Toyota team, especially once Truex and Hamlin are gone.
Going to be a very interesting ownership transition in Nascar in these coming years. All the flagship owners are getting old and passing the torch to these younger teams and younger ownership and teams like Gibbs and Penske don't exactly have a successor in line like Childress and Hendrick do. It's not totally out of the question that in 10 years we may not have a Penske or Gibbs team in Nascar anymore and that'll change the whole landscape of the ownership in Nascar.
