I work in a lawn mower factory. Yesterday, our bosses told us we're going to continue to have parts shortages because the port of Los Angeles has over 700 dockworkers out because of COVID. There are about 38 cargo ships sitting off the coast of Los Angeles waiting to be unloaded.
As a forensic examiner Caitlin is my top fan. I’ve been following her and appreciate her very much. Her plan mentioned is the mass disaster plan we follow just for this. Where are our leaders? Newsom? Biden? Help LA. Help them now.
@@tncorgi92 True. @@cc1k435 Just the topic of dying in general. Happens every day. A lot of people don't have a plan to leave behind for their loved ones. Even fewer people have advance directives filled out and ready. It's important to leave information and plans with family.
Yup. We have created a culture where talking about death is taboo. It’s going to happen whether you talk about it or not. Better that your loved ones know what you want and a plan is laid out.
I know some one whose elderly father passed away from non-COVID related causes last week. He lived in LA and it will be several weeks before they can have their first appointment with the mortuary. A friend in San Diego is having the same problem getting an appointment with a mortuary to bury her mom who passed from COVID this week. She was told the end of February. My friend's mom had plans in place already and there is still a wait.
I'm an old woman with these observation about Americans in general. 1. Americans choose to do the hardest, most expensive, least efficient things possible to avoid doing the obvious. 2. Americans will gladly do without so that others are denied. Finally, democracy is a system that ensures the people get the government they DESERVE.
I absolutely believed it would be an impossible connection, what would my death ambassador and my political czar have to discuss with each other? Then COVID happened and brought these two together. Unity.
I'm super glad you are talking about this! We need to make noise on Twitter and get our politicians in the loop. I already reblogged Caitlin's video and tagged Bernie, AOC, Kamala Harris, and Biden ... I suggest others do the same. I'll be adding this video to my reblogs too.
Excellent! The more we call for help and shine light on the problem - with a plan to fix it - the more likely we will get help from the people who have the means and resources to actually make a BIG impact.
👍 Spot on. It’s frustrating to me that many of the people best positioned to say this are not allowed to speak publicly. It’s really... profoundly sad... To know that we had so many things we could have started doing over a year ago. All those folks who didn’t have to die... 😔
Two of my favorite people, Beau and Caitlin, lights in the darkness. I was so glad to see you speak to this. Thank you for giving her message another channel to be heard on.
Because of Caitlin I knew my options after my husband died last year and I could thoughtfully make the decisions that were right for me, as his widow. Feeling, even a little, in control of something was comforting after the total loss of control during his dying process, due to Covid restrictions. I will forever be grateful to her. People are never dollar signs to her.
@@RmcBlueSky its also not cuz people don't believe in covid- its because poor communities often have multi generational homes, are Frontline and essential workers, and so are at higher risk for exposure. They also lack access to Healthcare and are at higher risk for poor outcomes. Poverty is the issue, not ignorance
States are overwhelmed. This video is specific to LA because that's where Caitlin Doughty owns a funeral home and is experiencing the overwhelm of dead.
@@missyrivas8623 THANK YOU!! I live in a neighboring county, Riverside, and we are doing horribly also, and for the reasons you mentioned. I live off-grid on a mountain, nearest town is 10 miles away at the base of the mountain. The little hospital there is overwhelmed, and I don't think that big reefer truck is in the parking lot to deliver fresh vegetables. We had few cases, until December. Now we are losing residents every day. We lost 3 neighbors in 2 weeks, and there's only about 200 in our little rural community. We are a close-knit group, and that's part of the problem. Many of my neighbors love trump, and they will not wear masks because they don't believe they work. They had the annual Xmas party in spite of warnings, and we are ALL paying for that now. Almost everyone who went got infected. I stayed home.
In past epidemics where the bodies were piled up or carted through town denial wasn't much of an issue. Some people need to see the reality to understand.
The deniers would just say that it was fake and not have any evidence to prove it. Just as they have done with everything else. They believe what they want to believe. Unfortunately there are people who don't care or learn unless it happens to them or someone very close to them. This is a real world example of "Only the Strong Survive." However in these times with our technology as advanced as it is, the weak are able to piggy back their way to survival. If this was The Middle Ages Black Plague, these deniers would be dropping like flies. Just like you said, they would realize quickly, if they continue to deny, they will actually die.
I have been following Caitlin since she began on You Tube. She is an incredibly sincere person and I am very glad to see that others are communicating her concerns. Thanks for picking up this topic!
I always watch her, but this current video made me cry because I felt her on soooooo many levels. Working in a Covid19 unit in a 100 year old building and the power goes out, the O2 machine stop. The generator can't get to us fast enough. No one is coming. The monitor is battery powered but not the O2. Some one with a brain, please for the love of God fix this!
I'm sure it wouldn't normally be up to code but there are battery backups designed to keep computer systems running, they're called UPS (uninterruptible power supplies) and they draw power to charge and take over automatically. But it's been months, why can't someone find a generator? Why isn't that a massive fucking scandal?
@@mxpants4884 because we are real people doing the best we can with what we have, so even though our environment is less than desirable but we are trying to care for sick people and protect people who are not sick. I won't villainies my work just morn our mistakes and build better. Sometimes we have to use a resource we would never actually think of, but in emergency we become a McGyver, because we actually care, about our patients and our practice. We are just trying our best ... Hopefully 😔
Caitlin has always seemed like a very sensible person who can speak honestly about potentially difficult subjects. Bottom line is, if you don't want your loved one to have no service, or worse, a service held in a parking lot as is happening now all over, I'd more than suggest the federal government get on this already.
She makes me want a water burial, when legal. Lol or the stilts burial.😍 She has made me smile about death and I was watching her way before the pandemic and can't thank you enough for spreading the word. Maybe a compilation video bc for the 1st time she was almost in tears.
Maybe a federal support response can help enough to let folks have a small funeral service but if it's that bad it'll be like over there now. Lurk to no possibility of a funeral service. And bring suggested to use canton because the burial staffs for body ground interrment are beyond capacity as well.
@@dragonsword7370 I heard there was a 'live streaming funeral' and the director forgot to turn off the streaming and was saying things about the deceased or something else was picked up on hot mic that really hurt the family. I can't imagine how much stress these funeral directors are under and I don't approve of any desecration to the death, but to be so busy to turn off the streaming, and it's not like the bodies were going to take offense or hear what the staff there say. I can't imagine what you have to go through to even get a streaming service if the funeral home is so overwhelming that getting flowers confused or getting names of the living confused in the obituary. @@AGDinCA What I don't get is why anyone would think this new year would magically take away all the issues we had last year? Yes we want this new year to be better, but until everyone takes this virus seriously, not subscribe to the division, then nothing will get better, it will get worse. I blame ignorance in those who still refuse to wear masks and takes precautions, and I blame the traitors in the GOP who continue to spread misinformation and refuse to give any help. Thank you so much for boosting the signal Beau! I'm so glad she did that video. She's got serious social credit to spend, and she's picked a great place to spend it.
If you haven't watched it yet, a note: watch it ALL THE WAY THROUGH. The last minute pulls it all together and makes her point that much more timely! It's not her usual video format, so (AFTER YOU MAKE CALLS and pass her message on to anyone who needs to hear it, AND at least ONE PERSON who can help) watch her other videos, to get a better sense of who she is and why her tone is so starkly different, in retrospect, than her typical videos. She's as kind hearted as she is sweet and thoughtful and educational.
I have never been so happy to see something covered. That video scared the absolute shit out of me. I don't live in LA anymore but so many of my friends and family still do and it shook me
Big vote for Caitlin here. She's usually very even-keeled about everything relating to her profession; hearing her message in the video being discussed here slammed home the dire nature of the situation. These are not normal times; and normal measures are horrifically insufficient. Caitlin speaks with every inch of the expertise of her corporate competitors; and 10x the compassion for the bereaved. We must compel the authorities to listen.
It broke my heart, not only losing a loved one, but losing money you don't have as you have to pay a high priced funeral home to find a home even to take your deceased loved one. Her plan is so simple, THANK YOU SO MUCH, for bringing this to the attention of more people. New Subscriber and your videos have proven well worth watching.
Beau, I’m a follower because I’m a fan of the truth. Growing up in rural Georgia in the 90’s as an potential heir to the family business of mortuary science, I opted for the Air Force in the mid 90’s. At that time, funerals were pretty much held for Saturday’s, primarily because most people had to travel and/or wait for the weekend to be able to attend. Fast forward 28 years, my family are exercising funerals 7 days per week. The family business started in the 1930’s, and has not seen this much volume in all the years of existence. It’s a morbid truth of our now reality. It’s really bothersome when people elect to politicize something that is so scientific and basic.
A special thanks to you and Caitlin for spreading the facts and truths. I'm retired AF Services and spent 20 years of my career in the continuous training and application of the Mortuary Affairs Program. I've also trained many Service members in the same. Thanks 👍🏿
Spent decades attempting to inform and promote an 'always question the knowledge' and learning for life philosophy prior to social media platforms. I'm retired, better left to my future generations.
Thank you for making this video. This could happen in any state and Caitlin Doughty is not an alarmist! She even addressed this in the beginning of the pandemic. No lie I brought large contractor bags just in case. We're unfortunately not ok yet!
Had never heard of Caitlin before. SO happy to be "introduced". NOT for this reason, but grateful just the same. I just watched 3eps in a row-including the one about the California dam in 1920's. WOW!
yeah, she's awesome. Been watching her for about a year (try the true story of moby dick episode, so good) I didn't know there was such a Beau/Catlin demographic overlap, but here we are!
Beau, you continue to impress me and Thank you Thank you! for adding your voice to this. Caitlin is pushing so hard to keep the compassion in this process during this awful time in history, her cause needs all the help we can give it.
I've been watching Caitlin for years, I've seen her get emotional in videos before, but her voice betrayed how close she is to breaking. She is elbows deep in the battle, she is in reaction mode, she is one foot in front of the other keep moving mode. She sounded exhausted. It broke my heart.
I remember seeing her video and I can see how this can become a major health crisis on top of the existing health crisis. Good to know that Beau and her are on the same page.
I did too. At minimum he had staffers that read the messages so if we all keep sending it, they will see it. I sent alibk of both Caitlin's video and this one
Send it to Harris, too. As others have mentioned, this needs to be amplified and addressed! It’s individually tragic so many now die alone from this virus, but it’s even worse there is no plan to help those families take care of their loved ones. Early in the pandemic, photos from Italy showed rooms completely packed with coffins, and military vehicles being used to transport them to cemeteries. Did anyone believe this was not going to happen here???!!
I love Caitlin. Go back to the end of 2019 JUST prior to the Pandemic. She had one of her regular sit downs with her "Sister" who is the curator of the Mütter Museum in Philadelphia talking about the Spanish Flu and what would happen if we had another Pandemic. She also did another one a few months ago about the Bubonic Plague in San Francisco and the way it was mishandled was extremely similar to the way this one was.
Thank you Beau for doing this, Caitlin is a wonderful person who not only provides an invaluable service for people IRL, she also does so for us internet people by providing a wealth of information about a very sensitive topic. Watching her video asking for help just crushed my heart. I'm thankful to see you using the means you have to help.
Never watched her before, and yesterday I just happened upon her video. It was so good. I really felt for her and the people she helps. Her plan sounds great. Too bad a politician couldn’t come up with one.
Wowed me again-thanks! There is a deeeeeep need & the plan is strong; useable! As this has been on my mind too. I have a mortuary minded daughter who wants to assist in this & again, thanks for shouting out the issues!!! 🥰
Start with lopping off $100 billion annually and build and maintain a world-leading public health system. SARS-CoV-2 will kill more Americans than every war and terrorist attack since 1940 combined. Not a single bomb, bullet, or bomber has or will save one of those lives. This is not the last pandemic. Humans continue to “develop” land which harbors the animal reservoir of the next zoonotic diseases.
I have followed Caitlin for a while, and I cried with her yesterday. I hope that she, and others, will get the help that they desperately need. Thank you for helping her with this.
Will be calling my rep and senators. More importantly, will be wearing my “provide for the common defense” mask when I do some “we’re getting 5-7” of snow tonight” grocery shopping this afternoon.
I've followed Caitlin for YEARS, and she is the sweetest, kindest person I think I've ever followed, as educaters go here on RUclips. Down to earth, educational stuff that is hard for a lot of people to talk about. She genuinely cares and is fiercely protective and welcoming of her craft and knowledge, which is a hard line to keep. I was very excited and weary to find her name here on Beau's channel, so, thank you Beau for picking up the torch and spreading her plea further. Let's hope our combined voices can carry her message to the right ears. That said, this mayhaps be the one and only time I have ever seen her this upset, this angry, this tired and frustrated and, unlike doctors and nurses, the death industry does not have calvary to relieve them. When New England was hit last year, same problem, no help. Small, independently owned businesses with enough cold storage for maybe 5 bodies at a time were suddenly overwhelmed with 25-30 bodies, unrefrigerated, (people's mothers, fathers, and children) and there was just NO solution. Some funeral homes can form a network, but, just like the healthcare industry, once overwhelmed, the last defense is the one holding all the responsibility. And yes, many of us are HORRIFIED that our governor lifted the orders, amid EVERYTHING going horribly wrong right now (there's a petition from far right groups to get him kicked out BECAUSE of the stay-at-home orders, and it seems he caved to keep his job). I believe all 3 variants (African, UK, and Brazil) are now here in the US, floating among us, spreading and killing faster, and he lifts the stay at home order. And I can't even imagine how much worse it gets from here. So, if you have any contacts or people you can send Caitlin's plea to, PLEASE DO IT!
I absolutely adore Belle but still miss you immensely Beau. I wish you every happiness and thank you for all you and your family have done for us and our country
Right... it got me really concerned for L.A. She's normally very level-headed and not at all one to fear-monger, so you can assume it's bad if she's that upset.

I sent out a message to government people I thought could and would listen and help. Thank you for doing the same.
This what people need to see. I don't know how many times I've heard "If it's so bad, then where are all the bodies?" If that's what it takes, show them!! Btw, I love Caitlin. Been watching her for years.
I absolutely adore her channel. She has such interesting stories of history along with her job as a mortician and heart hearing her story, it seems like so many are going through it and nobody is helping.. Hopefully Bidens administration can step in or something..
Beau, thank you for forwarding her plea for help. Caitlin is an amazing, caring human being. If you’ve never seen her channel, I highly recommend it. So much to learn.
What's the point of having these systems in place if they aren't used when needed? Thank you for elaborating on her video, I saw it yesterday and it was gut wrenching.
@Riddle me this I’m sorry, do you not know how democracy works? One person's voice is not as impactful as many. Public outcry is more likely to effect change that one woman standing on a doorstep alone. Or do you think she has some kind super secret of hotline to the governor to do her bidding? That’s not how any of this works, sorry to disappoint.
Thank you for posting this one! Her YT post was in my scroll as I was watching this one, watched, and I shared it to my FB page. I will also be contacting my Representative and Senator to see if there is anything that can done. Unfortunately they will likely keep their heads in the sand (or some a*s), but if enough people make enough noise we might hear a loud pop.

I work in a lawn mower factory. Yesterday, our bosses told us we're going to continue to have parts shortages because the port of Los Angeles has over 700 dockworkers out because of COVID. There are about 38 cargo ships sitting off the coast of Los Angeles waiting to be unloaded.
Wow, that's interesting, thanks
These are the stories that the news should be reporting! They need show what is really happening.
Wow! No wonder there are empty shelves in so many places (besides the toilet paper aisle)...

Righteous anger.
Same. She spoke with authenticity passion and grief
Thank you for amplifying Caitlin's request! As someone who follows her channel, she is someone who genuinely cares about others.
As a forensic examiner Caitlin is my top fan. I’ve been following her and appreciate her very much. Her plan mentioned is the mass disaster plan we follow just for this. Where are our leaders? Newsom? Biden? Help LA. Help them now.
Sadly, everything is politics now.
@@tncorgi92 True. Kevin McCarthy, California has been fighting like mad to support the Qcumbers and his fans are furious since they believe there is no serious virus and won't wear masks or in any way act like adults. He is trying to unseat Newsom so I suppose they can get one of these nutters in. Same with Nunes and others. They won't admit there is a problem so they sure won't do anything to stop it or help.

I recommend her books. Pretty much anything she has ever done.
Talking about death is important and it's avoided like the plague.
If only we could avoid the plague, we could avoid talking so much about death. 🤔
@@cc1k435 Just the topic of dying in general. Happens every day. A lot of people don't have a plan to leave behind for their loved ones. Even fewer people have advance directives filled out and ready. It's important to leave information and plans with family.
Her books are fantastic.
Yup. We have created a culture where talking about death is taboo. It’s going to happen whether you talk about it or not. Better that your loved ones know what you want and a plan is laid out.
As much as people aren't avoiding the plague...
We actually trained on this in the Army regularly..
I love her and she is so positive. Seeing her ask for help was heart-wrenching.
@Riddle me this Why do you assume she hasn't?
I'm an old woman with these observation about Americans in general. 1. Americans choose to do the hardest, most expensive, least efficient things possible to avoid doing the obvious. 2. Americans will gladly do without so that others are denied. Finally, democracy is a system that ensures the people get the government they DESERVE.
The juxtaposition of two of my favourite internet peoples!
Right? I was not expecting this crossover this morning, and was really happy when I saw it!
Allow me to introduce Dr Grande... he is super awesome too!
Yes!
Caitlin is very, very thoughtful and helpful on death issues. She can also be funny. When I saw this video, I thought of you.
Me too!
Caitlin helped me figure out what funerary measures I wanted for when my time comes. She is a great educator.
I came across her channel in 2017 while my father was neck deep in cancer and she helped me tremendously with coping
Me too! So glad people brought it to Beau's attention.
I doubt that it is only Los Angeles that needs this.
Nope, just LA. Do you know how big and populated is LA? NorCal has more ppl who believe in Covid. Is LA that doesn't.
@@RmcBlueSky the bodies are piling up in nj too. Its not just la. There are other cities having these issues
Oh ffs I’m so tired of optics being what keeps help from being given....it’s not high school!! just do what needs to be done...
I feel like you are referring to the high school drama between students. But, your statement also works for the education system in general.
An American story of doing the best we can with what funding we have. Now we get more O2 bottles and a generator can be directly hooked up, but the prevention we needed was not seen and that is upsetting because if the people who have the purses actually asked us what we needed it would have been better.
We're getting into Stephen King territory, entirely unnecessarily.
NYT DID A HUGE OBITUARY PIECE AND THERE HAD TO BE A TYPO. THERE WERE SO MANY! What I don't get is why anyone would think this new year would magically take away all the issues we had last year?
Yes we want this new year to be better, but until everyone takes this virus seriously, not subscribe to the division, then nothing will get better, it will get worse. I blame ignorance in those who still refuse to wear masks and takes precautions, and I blame the traitors in the GOP who continue to spread misinformation and refuse to give any help. Plus Joe Manchin and McConnell need to go. (Just my opinion as I live here in LA.)
Love Caitlin , she's a character with some great stories to tell. Her recent video was heartbreaking. Glad it's getting some words on the Beau show.
Not an alliance I was expecting today, but a worthwhile one.
Every single one of our politicians should be ashamed of themselves. Every single one of them. Period.
My wife’s a nurse in San Bernardino county, next to LA, we’re so screwed here.😢

I LOVE Caitlin!
