I discovered this while in Kenya especially Lou, Maasai and Kalenjin. Am also very sure that Nliotes of Uganda have the same similarities among themselves.In South Sudan we have Nilotes such as Nuer, Dinka, Shilluk,Acholi, Murle Anyuak,Zande,Toposa,Didinga among others who have similar words with the same meaning. The country is made up of 64 tribes and out of 90% are Nilotes.
@@vowuor How on earth is "rou" the same as ariyo? We need to stop forcing things. Dinka/nuer etc. are not off the same stock as Luo's. The word Nilotic simply refers to those who stayed near the Nile, or in the case of Luo, they followed the Nile. It doesn't mean they're the same people. If you kenyans want to associate your history with Dinka. Feel free, but don't lump the rest of Luo in it

They are words that are intrinsic to the language. Why do you think they are loan words? Is there a logical reason, besides an apparent dislike for the Dinka?

Am Kenyan luo in Nairobi who grew up in Kampala, most of my friends were Acholi and we interacted easily because we spoke similar languages, with a very slight difference. I think the Acholi luo remained with 95% of the original luo that was spoken in Bar el ghazel, much of our Kenyan luo was diluted due to intermarriages with Bantus that surround us. Apwoyo tutwal nyar wa.
The fact that It's LUO PROPER doesn't stop it from evolving due to interactions with bantus. The truth is all Luo languages in Africa have changed from the original one due to the interaction with other languages within the boundaries.
Justo is very right, our kenyan luo language has been so much assimilated mostly with the bantus we intermarriage with, Oduma and oganda for instance are just curved from Amatuma and Amaganda borrowed from the luhya community

For the benefit of non-Acholi Luos in Kenya, TZ, Ethiopia, DRC, Sudan, etc: The prefix "pyer- aryo, adek, angwen, etc" used when counting is different from "pyer" which is a body part, "waist" in Acholi but not "buttocks" (Dholuo-Kenya) as translated by one commentator. Quite simply they are homonyms, which I believe exists in all languages.
That is the same thing, it has two meaning which is the same to the luo of kenya and tanzania. Actualy the luo of kenya nad tanzania are the same people the children of our grand father ramogi
