- In an all-new "48 Hours," Peter Van Sant investigates the death of Marjorie Nugent, shot dead by her beloved, constant companion, Bernie Tiede, a mortician 40 years her junior, the film the case inspired, starring Jack Black, and the latest twist that has thrust the story back into the headlines. Van Sant joins "CBS This Morning" with a preview.
I work at the prison he's at. He's so quiet and respectable it's crazy to know that he did this.
Kinda like Andy Dufrain
I met him there too
I feel like there is more to it...
She must have been really insufferable to drive him to act on his thoughts
Just like the movie depicted it. I'd like to think since he was so nice that he couldn't stand up for himself, he became insane with all the trapped rage inside him from her.
How are you missing 9 months? No one looked for her? I can't spend 9 minutes in the bathroom without being searched for!
Because, quite frankly nobody liked her. As a matter of fact, most of the people in Carthage could not stand Marjorie. She was nasty and mean oh, and most people gave her a wide berth when they saw her coming.
Not everybody has people like that.
lucky you
By kids maybe
So dude killed her hoping to get her money, (which he did), and then people celebrate him and make a motion picture all about how he wasn't trying to get to her money all along and his intentions were good.
I'm telling you, America has lost its values.
"AmErIcA lOsT iT's VaLuEs". Bernie was celebrated way before he killed her, and even before he was acquainted with her. The movie was made because the case was so bizarre. Nothing more, nothing less.
Bro , our world is just getting darker and darker
Well said from South africa 🇿🇦
THANK YOU
I've seen movies where a serial killer has a nature of being soo nice to lure his or her victims and this case is exactly like that. I've seen the movie and I've heard Bernie saying that in prison there people who have committed worse offense than him. He is not remorseful and being controlled is not an excuse he had a choice to leave but he chose money.
He wasn't a serial killer. She was his one and only victim. He didn't keep her money, he gave it all away and/or donated it to others. So it definitely wasn't greed. He seemed pretty remorseful in all the interviews I've seen
I wonder if that was the grandchild that sued her to try and get money?
Good point. 👍 that grandchild is after her money
He was with that woman everyday, where were all the family then turning up every once in blue moon to secure their place in her will, if they had been there maybe they wouldn't have got so close
Old people with money manipulating. Just stop! ..get your own! Whoever can tolerate the annoyance for some money. Help yourself. If I don't want to be bothered in life don't bother in death
Hard to think anything bad of him after seeing the movie.
He uses the tactics psychopaths use. He demonizes the victim. Makes himself a hero . Fooled many people!
He did no such thing here
A good person can be capability of turning bad..i use to be a good person till i married a narcissist and majority family is too they did me so wrong took advantage of my kindness use me and im not the same anymore not even close to people scared of gettn hurt..i thought about killn my husband ..so i left to another state to avoid that..so i believe its possible
" She was the most despised person in town" Well I didn't know Her all that well but, She seemed nice enough during the few times I was around Her. I certainly didn't pick up on any hateful disposition from Her and I think maybe She has gotten a bad rap . Carthage is a strange place. There are lots of locally powerful people that live in and around the town. Carthage is extremely cliquish. I suppose most ,if not all small towns are that way to some degree. I know that She certainly didn't deserve what She got. Bernie had the option to walk away from the situation that He was in but, I think it was not just greed but it was also the power trip that He was on that kept Him in the toxic environment that He claims led to the events of that horrible act!
Misogyny always excuses the deaths of women. Don’t care if she was mean to him, what a joke that people side with him but not surprising
Every person on this planet has an excuse or defense. Crimes still have to be paid though
Jack black did most neutral acting I feel sad for real dude
Ngl no matter how bad of a person is murdering and dismembering them is never the answer to anything😂 the fact he’s out is kindof a joke.
Ted Bundy was also nice! The nicest one are the most dangerous!
What about Navho Libre? My mother’s favorite movie.
Wtf? Is this real?
Kenya Smith yes it is 🤯
@@jenniesimp998 wow. I'm about to faint right now. I'm so shocked.
Sadly yes
Indeed, it also got made into a movie starring Jack Black and Shirley Maclaine. Watch it, it's pretty good.
Er
I understand the snapping BUT
Why not just leave the old bitter crone?
Uuuuugggghhhhh _headdesk_
HackersSun
Look into Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Narcissists emotionally confuse you to the point of “Stockholm Syndrome.” If he did leave, there is no telling what she’d do to get her punching-bag back.
@Apes and Evolution everyone is a therapist on the Internet.
Hey, hey, hey. I'm a Bernie supporter and believe him to be a good guy but he DID shoot her dead. She might have been an "old Bitty" but she wasn't his "old Bitty" to do with as he chose. He could have said "Up yours you old Bitty" and walked out the door. He was naive and she used that to her advantage because most old ladies are manipulative old Bittys but she could never remove his freedom to choose. I love East Texas, by the way. Mostly good people up there and it's pretty 'cept for the wealthy city slickers that retire up there and try to build their own little kingdoms and queendoms. So, stick that in your hat and smoke it.
NelsonClick Seriously?? He killed that old lady and went on a free for all using the dead woman's money. Please. He is a murderer. Period. And the only reason people are defending him is because he was spending her money on them too. Jeeziz Christ!
NelsonClick Well that was a good little Bitty...
Bella Donna I know that's what's really awesome..
Thank you 🙌🏽
Sick! Didn't know u can shoot somebody in the back 4 times and still be a good person, psychotic nature of America! Backwards, backwards, backwards!
Well you could say that but you also have to go into the psychology of things
You can be a good person who did a bad thing. And you can be a bad person who did a good thing
He wants money. He could walk away. His fault. Life imprisonment is right.
I remember watching this on 48 Hours when it aired. I also remember her granddaughters trying to make Marjorie out to be the "nicest, sweetest most kind woman in the world.."......😂😂 LOL. NOT.
Clearly they were wrote out of the Will and wanted back in....
Prosecutor Jane Starnes looks so much like Kathy Bates, it's uncanny!
She drove him crazy...🙄
No! She was his victim!! Be careful !! Do not be fooled by these predators!!!
@@janetlieb2507 well, he's right. Bernie killed her because she was driving him crazy.
Jack Black you're the best
Wow lol watching now.
