Tapio Wilska wasn't a regular singer in Nightwish, he featured this song and the album version of Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean. The bass player was Sami Vänskä. He joined Nightwish after the first album where Emppu played both guitar and bass. He was with the band during Oceanborn and Wishmaster before Marko era.

@@janihaavisto79 I've never seen him live, but yeah, in the clips I've seen (like this one), he seems a bit arrogant. Like "I've been around longer than these kids and I have to look much more confident" or something like that. Nevertheless, impressive voice.
My personal favourite from the album Oceanborn. But let's face it: the whole album is just one highlight in total from start to finish ;-)

Man I miss Nightwish's power metal tunes so much. I know they played some in their decades tour and we will always have these classic albums/songs but still I wish they would revisit this style more. It's so much fun and powerful!
Yeah, i miss it too. I love the fast and melodic power metal with symphonic/opera elements. Nowadays nightwish is over the top danny elfman metal. ^^

This whole concert was a treat ! I can recommend Wanderlust and Slaying the dreamer, to name just a few :)
this is the first time i've ever seen someone describe Tarja's sound as "floral" and it's so perfect i'm a bit in love with that description.. 😳 *especially* for this concert. her peak mezzo soprano era. 🙏🏽 and Emppu.. the stage would be so empty without him.

older nightwish is real nightwish to me... that`s what was lost. The dark, heavy and passionate feeling...less fairy tales, more darkness and THAT voice 🥲...
So good!!! This whole concert is great. I love the way Emppu interacts with Tarja. He does the same with Floor too. He is the glue of Nightwish.
It's funny how they all pretend to be fake friends on-stage.

One of the most greatest early era songs...Tapio Wilska was a guest singer cause Tuomas did not want to sing... Sami Vänskä was the original permanent basist. This was before Marco in 2000 and just after release of their third album "Wishmaster".

Nice to see you liked it. I personally like all their production. It's quite often I listen to all the Tarja era songs, most of them you can't find any to compare with. I'd wish you also considered to make reaction videos of the songs that don't have a video at all, well that's it if the music itself is enough. It really is a pity that so many really good songs from the younger days cannot be seen played alive.

Tuomas knew Tapio from Nattvindens Gråt. Tuomas was like a session keyboardist in that band and was with the band on a small European tour before things really started with Nightwish. Tapio helped the Nightwish guys a lot in the early days and he was a guest singer on the album and occasionally at gigs.
Nightwish did not have a regular strong male voice before Marco joined in 2001. On the original albums you can hear Tuomas sing in some songs. During the tour they would occasionally use special guests. It's only after Marco joining when the male parts in the songs became stronger since he can sing so well.

This was magical concert, though for me their best concert with Tarja was the End of on Era. Absolutely mind blowing!
And if you listen this and then you go to the end of an era concert, you can really hear the transformation of Tarja's voice. And if you go even further to Tarja's solo career for example to like somewhere around 2016-2017 her London concert, you can clearly hear her vocal evolution.

absolutely the best NW era,for me at least and of course they did great things with marco and some goods with annette. The Floor era is the worst not because of her,she's a great singer, but because they're out of ideas.
IF ya'll like that, you should check out Tarja's solo show from Wacken. the song Demons in You with Allisa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy. Tarja's vocals with Allisa's growl is amazing and they sing the two styles simultaneously. It's mind blowing.

If you're looking for more 1996-2005 era Nightwish stuff, I'd recommend "The Siren" from the end of an Era concert.
Also if you guys are curious about Tarja's solo stuff, any song from her "Act 1" concert comes HIGHLY recommended.

@@enterthecronic In my opinion great are "Victim of Ritual" live from Woodstock 2016, "Crimson Deep" from "Act I", "Mystique Voyage" live from Teatro Vorterix 2014, first and second are heavier, third is very mystique song, different.

I miss the old nightwish songwriting. It was melodic power metal with goth/folk/symphonic elements and less danny elfman metal like nowadays. Emppu is/was such a great guitar player. Today he is just playing simple riffs, no big solos.
I agree 100%. Tuomas had such a lot of word plays, cryptic riddles and all that goodness in his lyrics. Then they hit big...and the lyrics lost their originality.
Now THIS is Nightwish, none of that Disney Metal they've been making. Just strait up and raw!
For me FantasMic is just strait up and raw disney metal!

It was fantastic era - when Nightwish used to play... real music. So long ago since they made really good album. Now there is only 50% Nightwish in Nightwish or even less.
That male singer is -> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapio_Wilska . Checkout the band Finntroll if you like his voice (I recommend songs like Forsen and Trollhammaren). I think it would not hurt the current Night Wish if they had brutal male vocals to complement Floor's voice (for a stronger contrast). I'm pretty sure there are many talented harsh vocalist out there available.
If there's one song that I have always wanted to hear in Floor's voice is this one with those contrasts, but I they haven't played this song since 2003, I think. I remember this is the first song with growls that I ever heard when I was getting familiar with Nightwish and metal music in general and it was so schoking over because I had never heard growls before and I was very young (this was during the Dark Passion Play era), but I think it's an underrated or somewhat forgotten masterpiece

This was before Marco joined the band. Afterwards Marco sang Tapio's parts. Actually I hated that guy. You could see him be little bit a bully on stage. Showing Tuomas when he's trying to do his piano parts, etc.
To my mind, when Tarja was at her best, before the mannered performances, barely enunciate lyrics, ego (backing band!) etc broke through. 😮
