Located in Austria as well, we have a similar income and similar savings rate. Our portfolio is smaller but we don't have to pay rent. Like you we are quite certain we'll reach our goal within the next couple of years. Like you we are spending on certain things we value, and try to save as much as we can on 'unnecessary' things.

    Angelo, alcune considerazioni.
È bellissimo che in ogni video dici "me and my wife".

Thanks for sharing personal numbers. Few points, with your strategy you dont fix profit. This rally will end in near future with strong correction. So i would still use average 10 year growth in calculations and would not count this +21% as your money. I started to sell stocks very often due super expensive market even though im investing for long term and the goal similar to your. I live in Germany and with two kids we spend around 5k€. Your apartment cost is an exception, i dont know if you have two bedrooms, but the average cost in my case 1500-2000€ for 2 bedroom. So consider this as well. Realistically you would need maybe 5-10 years to reach your goal, which is fine. Journey is what makes us happy, not reaching goals. Wish you good luck! 😊

I also would like to be free to retire early…. I just wonder what I would do if I did! 😂 it is a intriguing question to ponder as I have built many friendships over the years through work. I think one would still need a community I.e. one would need to join clubs or charities in order to be exposed to new people. Yes I could have hobbies at home, but the Blue Zones studies show that feeling needed and a part of a community helps longevity.
What do you plan on doing Angelo? It would be interesting to record your thoughts now and compare what retirement for you guys really is like as and when it happens!

Having a community of likeminded people would definitely be important. Good question, I would still be working on something for sure, but it wouldn't matter if it made me money or not. people forget the investment value of having many childrens - they look at it as an expense, when it is an asset. Only it will take many years until you get your ROI, but literally forming a small group of new human beings that will become your loyal supporters and helpers in the future, and even enable you to enjoy an old age where you will not need to end up alone in an institution, is an incalculable benefit to you. and all it takes is a couple 100 extra euros every month. no brainer. You can even decrease the cost if you actually educate them yourself rather than sending them off to daycares and schools where the state does your job for you.

The 4% rule says that you can spend 4% of the portfolio in the first year and increase that amount by the inflation next years, AND it will last 30 years in the WORST case. That means, according to the Bengen's research, one can have 1$ left in the portfolio after 30 years, and that is still considered a positive case.
The perpetual withdrawal rate for FIRE now is close to 3.3% according to Tyler from portfoliocharts. This rate will remain the capital unchanged in the worst case including inflation.
That is, one can not rely on 4% rule for FIRE, since it was calculated for 30 year rolling periods.

They do see it. But since locals don't want to have babies because of the economy, they try to "solve it" with immigration.

@@SchwarzeKatter This is obvious bs. People had kids in much more desperate times, in fact it's the opposite: The better educated and economically prosperous people are, the less kids they have. So having kids or rather not having them is purely a lifestyle choice for most - one that gets subsidised by people sacraficing for the future of their family, nation and in the end humanity.

@@AECH_CH I agree with you in the sense that the better educated are aspect, and nowadays we are more educated because of the easy access to information. And that's why people are having less kids, because they are seen as a liability. That's why the government's response to that is immigrations.

@@SchwarzeKatter In German we'd say "Wohlstandsverwahrlosung" to this. In fact the main focus of my financial journey will be to inform myself on how to not spoil my kids and not calibrate their "entitlement-meter". The less you're used to, the better for your happieness and gratefulness.
Don't plan on letting them hunger, but I'll make damn sure my kids don't see restaurants, overseas holidays and stuff until they are teens and have worked a sub min wage holiday job, so when I pay for their 50€ meal, they know "damn, I'd need to work 5h for this".
Nothing destroys wealth faster than entitlement, I've seen this within my close proximity. I have friends that blew Millions for nothing.

I heard this statement recently: "A child is born, a hardworking father is born too". Growing a child may seem as an extra cost, but I would say it is more like a stimulus for quiting your comfort zone and increase your income. And I would also say that just one kid isn't enough. 🚀

I don't think 4% is a realistic representation of your personal target to achieve FI. 4% rule talks about (not running out of money in) 30 year long retirement. Person in their 30s should probably be planning for 60 year retirement so withdrawal rate might need to be more conservative than 4%. I do understand that you might be using 4% as a simplification and also planning to earn at least some income the future. Maybe a topic for another video.
