I've just fallen in love with this song,i just can't stop listening to it,it's like a drug for me,but i'm not worried about it cuz i just love this song....
First listen, I just thought this was a lovely song about a man not understanding what a woman goes through.. vice versa for a woman too but to hear the reason behind this song gives it more depth. I rock with it.
Totally am one of his biggest fans as a musician, artist, and jazz musician myself. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like he is the continuation of Marvin Gaye- an exact replica. Even the look somewhat. I mean that in the best way. This song really brings it out.
I know I'm about a decade late to your post. But I have been saying that he is the closest thing to Marvin Gaye there is today. This song is how Marvin Gaye would have done to the tee. The accents, the runs. Background vocals layered like him and everything. I love it brother ❤!
@@mardigras33 Ms. Mardi Gras I am an a Robin Thicke-a-holic. So yes! That was a really good coming out party for him. But til this day. I think his second lp The Evolution of Robin Thicke is what he will always be measured by!
She is even more black when she stands next to her husband and sees people treat him different because he is married to her...or they look down on their skin contrasts. And being raised by her white mother, I am sure she was constantly reminded that she is not white (diffrent hair, different skin tone, people staring - it was the 70's), which is why she sees herself as black.
I know the term is outdated, but I like it. As for dealing with stereotypes in the blak comunity, that's sounds pretty difficult. I am a woman, and I am a Jewish woman. So even though it is not as harsh as jokes I get offended by "Jew" jokes. I have had to deal with my share of social difficulties and ostracism for other reasons. So I have strong feelings against some types of negative stereotyping. I know a lot of blacks (who are Somali immigrants) in my area.
Black in America is not just being associated w/" Black," skin it's about the awful stereotypes, sometimes second class citizenships that may come w/ it of being a minority. And being a minority and a women, you are born with two strikes against you. And i'm happy that you are for breaking stereotypes but not everyone is as forward thinking as you. And just because she is a mulatta (outdated term), the world shes her as a black thus treating her that way. The actress Halle Berry and Obama both
had white mothers but their mothers raised them with the idea of being a black person(s) in America B/c they knew that that is ultimately how they would be treated, they would be treated as black people b/c not all the world would see them for them but ultimately judge them on the color of their slin, and that is still the sad truth people still judge people a superficial bs-black white, purple green or whatever.
My dear, I already knew what mulatto was. I previously have researhed that term. Did you know that a Mestizo is the product of Caucasian and Native American ancestry? Well, it's true. and in the Castas system, they were often poor farmers and "lowly" servants.
Get over it - this is 2014 - she's "not white" and he's "white" so what - none of our business - they're just 2 AMERICANS - so sad, that this is still an issue! Well, for me, it's not - how many of you can join me? Does it really take another 9/11 to remind us to stay united? Please tell me that it doesn't- and if you will tell me that it doesn't, I will sleep so much happier tonight! Please let me see you all stay with me!
Well to answer your question aside from being gorgeous to many in the world; the movie industry that she works in still judge woman of colored woman mixed or not as someone not right for a part simply because of skin color and that has to hurt. People are people no matter what yet we still label each other, it's just the facts sad but true.
Actually her mom is white and her dad is black but she sees herself as a black woman. She feels that the world sees her that way so she identifies with it. Don't hate.
more like a "im a guy, youre a woman sometimes i dont understand where you come from so please forgive me? oh and youre black and im white that too ;)"
By your definition then no African American is black if true "black women" are dark skinned "African" beauties. Africa is a giant continent away. Most black people in the U.S. have not only never been to Africa but also have NO desire to go to Africa. Identifying for multi-ethnic individuals is a very personal choice and not meant to be judged by anyone. I agree that her experience w/race has probably been different then a darker skinned person but who says that makes it less of an experience?
I can't tell if he means this song in a way like: "because of my white male privilege I can never know what it is truly like to be you but I accept what you tell me" or if he means it in a more whining, "I can't understand, so ease up on me" route. Obviously, I hope it's the former.
Why would I hate? I'm iconoclast, all about breaking stereotypes. I just disagree, but it's her life. The true black women are the ebony dark, dark skinned beauties of Africa. She would be defined as mulatta.
This just might be my favorite song on the new album. Beautiful. It has a real Marvin Gaye vibe to it.

He wrote this song after getting into a fight with his wife and she state that, he will never know what it feels like to be a black woman.

Robin Thicke's voice makes all the girls clothes come off.

Hey, I'm multiethnic myself, so I'm just voicing my opinions. I try to honor all my roots.

Ok, true. She is a black woman--but she is just as much a white woman.
She's a queen.
What would make you think I'm hating?

she's mixed
she claims he black side. she calls herself "black" instead of mixed which she is.
Yeah, that's what he told reporters when they compared him to Justin Timberlake.
