You are just leaving out the most embarrassing parts: came 3rd in World Cup qualifying, his obsession with getting weak mls players exposure during the WC, Mexico is probably the worst Mexico team in decades (who is our main competition), Berhalter being completely lost when a game doesn’t have the US as heavy favorites or adapting when a game isn’t going well and getting grouped in Copa America at HOME. On paper he was absolutely not qualified from a few years in the MLS and getting fired from the Swedish second division team. People don’t expect us to make the quarter finals but try to be competitive with in a round of 16 game and we have had zero “great” wins under him that less talented teams have pulled off like beating Spain in 2009. Glad he is gone, he wasn’t 100% of the problem but the manager is one thing that can be changed easily.

Nobody ever asks or talks about who actually picks the players for the US national team. Especially after Klinsmann cut Landon Donovan, I believe that GB was selected because they trusted that he wouldn't cut Pulisic or one of the stars like Klinsmann did. Imagine the sponsor money that was pissed off or lost due to Klinsmann cutting Donovan. And going forward I think that whoever the federation picks the ability to trust and control the coach will be the #1 factor even over being able to win games or be a good coach, the federation wants someone who will do as told by the agents and sponsors, they dont really care who wins games just so the sponsor and TV money is flowing in. This is why I think that the Klinsmann fiasco broke the national team permanently, we'll never have an actual national team coach again, we'll have a front-man who pretends to be making the decisions but is really just doing what the agents of the players and the sponsors of the players tell him to do. And I haven't seen anyone talking about this because US soccer fans are fairly clueless.

The USMNT has never done well with a coach given a run for a second World Cup cycle. There were certainly better options out there after the 2022 World Cup.
