Scottish “Independence Is Dead!” John Swinney Promises ‘New Chapter’ For The SNP

- John Swinney promised a “new chapter” as he took over as SNP leader, admitting his party has been through “a rough time”.
He was speaking after being confirmed as the only candidate to succeed Humza Yousaf, who announced last Monday he was stepping down as both SNP leader and Scottish First Minister.
He insisted he was “deeply honoured” to take on the role, promising to “give all that I have to serve my party and my country”.
It is the second time that Mr Swinney has been named as SNP leader - but this time he is also now likely to be declared as Scotland’s new first minister following a vote in the Scottish Parliament later this week.
Talk’s Mike Graham discusses the story with political editor of the Scottish Daily Mail Michael Buckley.

Independence isn’t dead but it should be on the back burner. We need to focuse on rebuilding the pillars of our society (economy, education, healthcare, the justice system, and culture) only then can we tackle issues such as independence but instead we have fallen into the quagmire of social politics that only widen devision’s and create no real helpful change for the people of Scotland. We have a need for Realpolitik in Scotland where we do what is achievable and beneficial rather than following fanciful ideas that cannot be achieved reasonably. Once we are back on track and have stabilised our position as a country can we try our hand at independence again.
