  • The EMC AB6s were a unique pair of diesels built for the Rock Island in 1940, and spent over 30 years in service before both were scrapped in 1974. In this mini-documentary, I'll be talking about the history of the AB6, which is definitely one of the most obscure American diesel locomotives (in my opinion).

Great documentary! This locomotive kind of reminds me of a PRR Doodlebug.

      Did somebody say PRR Doodlebug?

Great episode and thanks for the shoutout! I find it very interesting that according to the earlier photos of the class, the regular B units were placed _behind_ the AB6, thus leaving a single E6 at the front for the Denver section. I would think having the AB6 behind the B unit would make sense since more power would be required to pull the heavier Denver section of the train.
I also considered including this engine in my Top 10 Extinct American Diesel list, but I decided at the last second not to include it since it was based on the E6: a class which has many surviving examples.

With any luck, I'll be making more of these mini-documentaries in the future. And trying to stick to obscure classes with no surviving members (or one-offs).

Awesome! Love hearing a Kiwi accent narrating a video of a central US train. Keep up the good work!

Great video. I climbed around the 750/751 as a kid in Colorado Springs and rode the Rocket to Chicago many times.

The thing sticking in the air is a crane boom, not any part of the locos, thankfully.
