I love how, even though his rapping is extremely fast, you can still hear every word he is saying clearly. A lot of rappers loose the words as they get faster. Daveed does not. It's amazing.
I love the ending, the fact that they made it look fake intentionally with him imposed on an image of a street, rather than just put him on an actual road makes it so much more unsettling
It's kind of like they wear a guise of your typical gangster rap while pointing out how actually kind of awful street life is especially when it comes to violence. It's very interesting.
yeah, definitely. i'm still waiting on that kendrick feature in a clipping track or vice versa, especially since daveed got a ton of recognition from hamilton. their styles would work so well together, particularly kendrick's skill in voice modulation and daveed's rapid-fire yet concise wordplay.
It's unsettling to me how little movement there is, don't get me wrong, this is amazing and I love it, but usually in videos there's more going on, but the gradual bleeding and the chorus with his eyes open and the slow zoom in and out on his face (he's clearly shaking, even better) it's a bit creepy. I love it, it's a work of art.
It's him bleeding out on the floor after getting shot. The girl singing in the chorus is clearly an angel of death. That's why he looks unsettled and comforted at the same time.
This is too deep. Although I did come with the mindset of a depressive song, but I didn't expect the perspective to change from waking up to an alarm to another mundane, terrible day, to an electrocardiograph sound, because he was shot and left to die. I can't help but think of the reference to many of the police brutalities within the recent media, but I cannot infer this reference, as there was no mention of the police. However, with the existence of the electrocardiograph sound, I could interpret that it could be how a bullet wound is not treated because of how worthless the narrator's life is.
Spot on with the cyclic nature of the individual's life, but its not from the narrator's perspective, its as though he's is watching what's happening, and kinda giving his view on it. Plus, the album was released months ago, before the recent media outbreaks, i think the music video's kinda saying, 'i know this life will kill me, but i have to persevere, cuz its the only thing I've got going.'
I took the alarm clock to be the mundanity of a 9-5 job that's then warped into the same push and struggle of the daily grind of selling drugs that the narrator turned to after quitting doing normal work. The song demonstrates why someone might turn to crime, posturing itself as the narrator's daily motivation, but then shows why his expectations were flawed. He left his normal job for something with all the same problems and the minute he got caught up in the rat race of the streets he was already dead. The chorus is both his dying breath and his desire to be something that brought him there.
It's all in connections and how they work the media. You can either be a 'celeb' through being trash and trying to be controversial, or take the long road and persevere with talent and skill and quality and be an artist.
How does this only have 136k views?! This is some of the most original, creative, and just magnificently-produced art I've heard and seen in a very long time. Not only this video, but every single one they've done. Fucking brilliant! PLEASE make a video for "Taking Off!"
It's brilliant. How Daveed tells the gangster narrative so graphically. He approaches the street life critically while being empathetic to it at the same time. Like "it's fucked up but you gotta understand why things are this way before demonizing it". Beautiful
the alarm sound was bothering my dog (his logic: alarm = daddy leaves) but then when he saw that I wasn't leaving he calmed down and he started looking around for the person talking when daveed started rapping. cutest thing i've ever seen, tbh.
2:19 i really like this part of the music video because it’s like he’s almost going to heaven but they rejected him. plus if you notice how his pose is in the position of the white chalk outline guy.
IDK who came up with this flow first but Kendrick Lamar has definitely found some inspiration is this type of pattern of rhythm. fast cuban like sextuplet fast rhymes

I was driving to work last week,..had one ear VERY blocked, due to infection,..had the car stereo turned up loud, to hear it, listening to this album,..when this track started as I got to a junction,..fuck me, I was looking around, thinking, where's that alarm coming from ¿?¿? Then I realised Fantastic track, great album x
great example of how something conventionally sounding good is not always the best thing, the alarm being harsh and grating really hammers home the tone and message of what he's describing in a way that a normal beat wouldn't have
Can we just acknowledge the fact that Daveed's so incredible we will repeatedly listen to a song backed by a sound most of us loathe? I mean for real. that's one of the worst sounds on the planet but damn if I haven't listened to this song about a dozen times in the last day or so.

Almost two years ago, I remember setting up RUclips on my uncles TV so he could watch without ads. He was dying of cancer at the time, passed away almost a year ago now. Seeing this video reminded me of a funny memory. This 74 year old man accidently got into my RUclips account and stumbled his way into my liked videos. While going to sleep one night, this popped on in the playlist. Hearing him describe what he saw was so fucking funny, it took me a while to figure out what had happened. Good memories
Man, whoever they have making these videos knows just what everyone was expecting to see, and how to do something completely different that blows what you were expecting out of the water.
Listen I get that alot of yall like Daveed Diggs and discovered him through Hamilton, but making everything he's ever done about Hamilton? Does his whole life revolve Hamilton now? Is that *all* he's ever done in his life? Some of y'all really need to learn to separate things. Hamilton has nothing to do with this vid, it is Digg's art, let it remain *Digg's art*. Passion for something is nice, but don't make it everything. *sigh*
cookycandy4 You bring up a good point here. It's awesome that clipping got a lot of recognition from Hamilton, but it's just the amount of comments on their music videos that are talking about how they "got here from Hamilton". I understand I'm being a bit hypocritical with this, but I also discovered clipping from Hamilton. But I DO recognize that clipping is a COMPLETELY separate and different thing from Hamilton. Their music deserves proper recognition that isn't just talking about Lafayette and whatnot. It does get slightly annoying sometimes with all the Hamilton references in the comments, but people will comment what they comment........
cookycandy4 thank you for saying this, I enjoy hamilton and I know other people do too but some people need to understand that yes, daveed was in hamilton, but he was playing someone in something he didn't create, this is HIM it has nothing to do with hamilton or the people in it
Loving this song, especially because they could have easily made the alarm into a more complex, actual beat but the minimality of it does wonders for Daveed's flow and message. I know the song isn't about just this, but I just really like how it conveys that feeling that you just gotta keep moving forward. No stopping, you gotta get up and deal with it every day, as well as make comfort with it. Been struggling with that myself lately
I see comments about Daveed and Hamilton. I see comments COMPLAINING about comments being about Daveed and Hamilton. You know what I really almost never see? Comments talking about the fact that Daveed is 33% of Clipping. Without William and Jonathan, there is no Clipping. They make it what it is, musically, and that is a big part of it. So let's argue the disrespect shown to them when all the discussion is about Hamilton, too.
kanye is famous and he's not? perfect example of a world gone wrong! I mean he's famous now but not like Kanye and to me that seems completely fucked up. he absolutely runs rings around everyone with relevant content and analytical verses with the illest runs/rhymes also rhythmically on point plus conveys feelings and information with simplicity. This guy is Freakin GOOD!
whenever the alarm clock ish sound turns into a chord i feel a little more alive
And Daveed gets a little more, well, dead.

Do you mean right after the chorus is like "that's the street light"? Because same
I love how, even though his rapping is extremely fast, you can still hear every word he is saying clearly. A lot of rappers loose the words as they get faster. Daveed does not. It's amazing.
Listen to kaan, you'll be blown away
It IS amazing, but I understood it a bit more when I found out he has a degree in theater. No mumble rappers on Broadway.
It's a bit harder with Face....all I can make out is "ACURA ACURA! "
420 likes, i ain't gonna ruin it, someone else is.
Yea I also noticed that too it is amazing
I'm like 95% certain when his alarm clock goes off he just wakes up rapping
I actually woke up singing along to this tho lmao

TeaDrinker3000 In Inside Out, you can see the outline of him in this video on the street towards the end.
at first, i thought clipping. glamourized violence, but as i've listened to the songs more, i've realized that they actually do the exact opposite
It's kind of like they wear a guise of your typical gangster rap while pointing out how actually kind of awful street life is especially when it comes to violence. It's very interesting.
room Reminiscent of Kendrick, honestly.
yeah, definitely. i'm still waiting on that kendrick feature in a clipping track or vice versa, especially since daveed got a ton of recognition from hamilton. their styles would work so well together, particularly kendrick's skill in voice modulation and daveed's rapid-fire yet concise wordplay.
mm yeah they said something similar in straight outta compton
True enough. Daveed Diggs is just a narrator in CLPPNG, not glorifying anything or downplaying anything. Just telling it how it is.
I think it's supposed to be him being shot multiple times on the ground. Or just once.
I imagine just once and he is bleeding out.
probably in the hospital trying to wake up
Abster306 at 2:26 when it zooms in on his face you can see the woman singing as well
It's him bleeding out on the floor after getting shot. The girl singing in the chorus is clearly an angel of death. That's why he looks unsettled and comforted at the same time.

You can see him rapping faster the more the blood shows symbolizing time is running out
THIS. All of this.
A JoJo's fan and Dunkey fan, AND a man of culture.
how come people that cant even rap become famous af

The one time I enjoy listening to an alarm clock

it's at 831K rn, I guess it's taking off, but it takes time
Didn't really appreciate how pretty Daveed's eyes were until they were staring at me in fear. Huh.
It's brilliant. How Daveed tells the gangster narrative so graphically. He approaches the street life critically while being empathetic to it at the same time. Like "it's fucked up but you gotta understand why things are this way before demonizing it". Beautiful

Never knew something so minimalist could be some awesome (both in terms of the music and the video).
This is the only song I know that still gives me chills every time I listen to it.
the alarm sound was bothering my dog (his logic: alarm = daddy leaves) but then when he saw that I wasn't leaving he calmed down and he started looking around for the person talking when daveed started rapping. cutest thing i've ever seen, tbh.

Daveed Diggs' music is under appreciated.
Okay but I can see each of his little curls shaking
*cries*
same tho i just want to protect him and his hair
Magi V just protect the hair (jk plz don't kill me)
It has a mind of its own. We can tell that his hair can feel fear and we must protect it at all cost.

It's sad when people can't get passed the alarm sound and instantly condemn this song. I hate alarm sounds but love this song.
This song made me actually like the sound an alarm clock makes now. Whenever I hear an actual alarm, I start nodding my head to it.
i set this song as my alarm and i usually hit snooze before daveed comes in but it just feels good to know its this song
"Back then we had real music."
I gotta say "fuck you" to that.
The great era for experimental shit.
Experimental shit ain't never wrong.
And yet back then is when the good music was also the popular music. That isn’t how it is now. Daveed isn’t on the radio. Trash bullshit is.
@@roems6396I agree. Mainstream music is getting worse, but other music outside the radio stations are getting better
the only flaw of this song is that it's too short
@Alvin I actually think it's surreal nature adds to it.
It literally broke my heart to see daveed at the end dying in the street like please no take me insteaD
IF I COULD TRADE HIS LIFE FOR MIIIINE
HE'D BE STANDING HERE RIGHT NOW

To anyone pursuing a career in music. Please note how good this piece of music is. It's just an alarm clock and a damn good rapper doing god's work.

understandable that yes Hamilton gained him recognition but it doesn't need to be referenced in every piece of work he has done?

Hustlin' is a habit, so they say
This is for the G's who wasn't trippin' and never knew any other way
Other ways of gettin' money, not many do not require
A degree of separation from the streets you gettin' paid in
In which the degree of difficulty is extraordinarily high
And she high while doin' it so see why

How you body a body in other words (how I could just kill a man)

No time for wifey's babies or other collateral damage
Checking for snitches, they be the ones order tacos in Spanish
Always thinking that they blendin' in, but then sending them telegrams
To the rollers, they bitches, not meaning feminine
Meaning, fuck it, ain't no explaining, get the fuck up and push cocaine
All these fuckers gon' sleep all day
But if you suck up when one of you step up to these bucks
Knock if you lacing up them chucks, no Taylor Gangin'
This shit is grimy and dirty, clothes stankin' while you slangin'
Get up out to the blacktop, backpack for the crack rock
Take shot at the cops at a spot where they knock a neighborhood watch
Watch him, learn the code if them eyes are closed
That means he sleeping on his feet and been out in the cold

+John Laurens is Gay this is literally my alarm clock I just woke up to it.no fucking joke I swear
I've been looking for this alarm clock since I found the song. it's not on zedge, and I don't know where else to look :(
+dappr pyro Download it and cut it into an iTunes alarm yo
John Laurens is Gay SAME
No way, this is my favourite song from the album! I'm so happy that there's a pretty good music video for Get Up finally. :)
Only disadvantage of sleeping to clipping is waking up in de middle of the night to this song 🤦🏽
Man, whoever they have making these videos knows just what everyone was expecting to see, and how to do something completely different that blows what you were expecting out of the water.
1.25 SPEED IS SUCH A FUCKING BOP
Damn us home sticks are everywhere
***** *_shit_*
oh wow am i late
we are everywhere :o)
zARA, NO GAMZEE FACES. WE ALL KNOW WHAT THAT FACE MEANS HERE.
Didn't appreciate this song when I first heard it.
Now it's a bloody masterpiece in my mind.
*sigh*
cookycandy4 +
cookycandy4 You bring up a good point here. It does get slightly annoying sometimes with all the Hamilton references in the comments, but people will comment what they comment........
cookycandy4 I AGREE SO MUCH
cookycandy4 thank you for saying this, I enjoy hamilton and I know other people do too but some people need to understand that yes, daveed was in hamilton, but he was playing someone in something he didn't create, this is HIM it has nothing to do with hamilton or the people in it
exactly exactly exactly
i can't believe how unique and refreshing this is, and how little views it has. i'm loving it, though.
I usually hate continuous beeping but it’s worth it for daveeds voice
Loving this song, especially because they could have easily made the alarm into a more complex, actual beat but the minimality of it does wonders for Daveed's flow and message. I know the song isn't about just this, but I just really like how it conveys that feeling that you just gotta keep moving forward. No stopping, you gotta get up and deal with it every day, as well as make comfort with it. Been struggling with that myself lately
unmusical alarm clock morphed to musical lead, masterful use of industrial music techniques
Poor Daveed Diggs. Whatever you say/sing/rap, you’ll always find a comment saying “Thomas, that was a real nice declaration.” 😂
Welcome to the present, we’re running a real nation
I don't think it's possible to bash his lyrics. Real, gritty, quick and clever. Mr. Diggs keep making these videos!
kanye is famous and he's not? perfect example of a world gone wrong!
I mean he's famous now but not like Kanye and to me that seems completely fucked up. he absolutely runs rings around everyone with relevant content and analytical verses with the illest runs/rhymes also rhythmically on point plus conveys feelings and information with simplicity. This guy is Freakin GOOD!
a world gone wrong? more like a wORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOOOOOOOWN
+dappr pyro You're very punny
Bruh he was in Hamilton. he's uber famous now.
WeepyProphet yep he's defs famous now, but still not Kanye famous... not even close, hence my original point/comment.
Respect deeze nuts 😂
Oh man this.I love this beyond comparison, chilling every time.
I played this in class today. not even one minute in someone says 'can you turn off that alarm please' like no stfu this is amazing
clipping. makes not just really good music but also the most creative music videos
