      Liam Hillman this better wind up in the comment show, I agree great job by Bruce, I always like watching this lot handle tough and potentially dicey topics like this just to see the contrast between the comedy and silliness and then the serious issues whilst still avoiding putting in their own political input to maintain a neutral ground, great job by them all

      Joe Kin it strikes up conversation and when people are forced to hear opinions they build options themselves. They may agree or disagree with what they're hearing. When entertainers become political there following hear there opinions and derive there own thoughts from something that is like a shock political action as opposed to asking the person "how do you feel about opinion A over opinion B". I think you're completely right.

  • @OtterOnFire

    Hey! Just wanted to make a comment regarding Adam's statement that the issue of race was a problem since prehistoric times. In actuality race was historically not a huge issue until more or less the enlightenment. The big divide was usually religious, cultural, or most probably tribal (originally). Now, if you think that constitutes racism in itself I would yield that it was essentially the pre-racial equivalent of racism, but the concept as we understand it today is in no way that simple.
    The development of the idea of a "race" of people is a really interesting one(EDIT, forgot to write "one" here). Most ancient civilizations defined themselves and others by cultural and geographical differences rather than physical ones, and had no real concept of race beyond largely-explanatory myths. In the era of "Christendom" the belief was that all people were descended from the sons of Noah, and the Islamic world more or less agreed, though developed more scientific observations due to their proximity to Africa and the "Orient".
    The development of "Scientific Racism" is unique in its devastating impact on peoples' mindsets. The Enlightenment focus on science and fundamental differences between races set the trend for the next several centuries of modern racism. It is no coincidence that this coincided with Colonialism, the first truly race-based slavery institutions, and the overall advancement of European society to a perceived position of superiority over other people.
    To say racism began there would be an oversimplification, as even the ancient Sumerians regarded the people living in the hills as "barbarians" and called themselves "the black-headed people" referencing their hair-colour, but the concept itself is of critical importance and I believe it is imperative to our understanding today to see how racism has no real legs to stand on. It was literally created out of thin-air and permeated into every aspect of our society artificially through outright propagandization. It's a unifying and comforting feeling to belong to a "race" in some ways, I suppose, but the concept did not and could not have existed until essentially the first step towards pseudo-globalization occurred.
    I know this may seem out of place and critical. Just know I mean no disrespect to Adam, just want to address what I believe to be a common misunderstanding the world could truly benefit from rectifying.

    • @OtterOnFire
      @OtterOnFire 7 лет назад +26

      I don't know if you're referring to the Quetzalcoatl myth or more recent contact with isolated populaces, but the concept of race as we understand it today would not be present in the mind of a group of people who hadn't been saturated with the idea and exposed to knowledge of other races as defined by skin coloration. In fact, IF am isolated tribe were to assume a person of a different color was a god then it would prove the artificial origin of "race" because it would demonstrate a lack of thinking in racial terms and support the hypothesis that race was a construct of society, rather than something innate to humans.
      I'm not saying race doesn't exist, it's definitely a obvious method for distinguishing humans, but the concept of grouping people into a "race" was a developed ~500 years ago, whereas outside of abject culture shock (e.g. first contact between New and Old world peoples) people understood those unlike them in terms of culture or religion. For example, the Normans during the invasion of England saw the Saxons as a fundamentally different people, despite their "race" being the same.
      It's a hard concept to grasp, for sure, but I see no reason to call me "retarded" unless you feel my statements are a personal attack on your character.

    • @OtterOnFire
      @OtterOnFire 7 лет назад +11

      Here is some reading to backup my claims, first result from googling "Origin of race". www.pbs.org/race/000_About/002_04-background-02-09.htm

      Oh, yea...

    • @OtterOnFire
      @OtterOnFire 7 лет назад +13

      Because ~500 years of conditioning has MADE racism and racial identity an undeniable truth. It is impossible now to separate race from a vast history of racial tension and conflict, as well as existing racist institutions, and so it becomes ingrained in the human psyche by society rather than nature. To directly address your question it's the "nurture" side of nature vs. nurture, as well as a myriad of other variables that would go beyond my historical knowledge into the economic, political and more.
      The point you brought up earlier about the Roman view towards "barbarians" is exactly what I'm suggesting. Both white, both European, yet in their respective mindsets they might as well have been different "races" if we were trying to compare it to how we think of things today. Human beings need to feel a sense of belonging to some sort of group, and as society has expanded it has abandoned the "tribal" identities which came naturally in favor of artificial identifiers, such as race or nationality to cope with the increased scale of human society as a whole. To this extent, I think it is also important to point out that JonTron's argument about the "tribalization" of human society is a poor choice of words at the very least.

    • @OtterOnFire
      @OtterOnFire 7 лет назад +8

      Yes, if you look at my original comment the original point was that the modern concept of racism based on skin color is not human nature, it comes out of generalization and a more macro-cosmic approach to defining people, whereas culture, language, etc was the defining difference for most of human history. This is strictly not "racism" because that word has a very specific meaning, but we can more or less equate the ideas.
      On that topic, I don't understand what you mean when you say "religious racism" and talk about it's history. Unless you mean "religious prejudice" which is definitely real. Racism is a form of prejudice specifically focused on race, and is too often used in a general way, in my opinion.

    • @qwertyuiop5949
      @qwertyuiop5949 7 лет назад +6

      Frank Spencer by no means am I condoning some of the things which the IRA did, but how can you say that they 'discriminated everyone else'? They engaged in guerrilla warfare (because it was impossible to face the British forces head on) to fight back for their country. This then bred into other groups like the RIRA but the other side is no different. Look at all the links of Loyalist paramilitaries and the DUP for instance. But no, of course the republicans and IRA in particular were the only ones discriminating. No one else was doing anything wrong. Get your head out of your ass

    This is the problem: We shouldn't get mad and try to burn a guy at the stake for saying racist comments (whether you believe they are or not). Instead, if you disagree you should try to educate the person as much as possible. He's not a mean spirited person trying to hurt other people. He has just formed an opinion based on things that are not true. Educate don't hate. The media of course is going to use this as an attack piece but as the RUclips community and online community in general we should do better.

    • @EvilParagon2
      @EvilParagon2 7 лет назад +26

      Jontron meant the inverse.
      In a Muslim country, if you're a woman and are not wearing a hijab and you drive a car, bad things can happen.
      Jontron was making a point saying if you can do those things without anything bad happening, you are not in a nation that needs feminism.
      To which, you can agree. Feminism's requirement in first world countries is miniscule. All the claims about things like wage gap are lies. The only thing feminism is needed for is personal treatment, it's illegal to pay a guy more than a woman, but it's not illegal to say, give all the richer clients to the guy and all the poorer clients to the woman and the woman makes less because of it. There, feminism is necessary.
      But then you still have nations in which women can't show more than their eyes, can't vote, can't drive, can be beaten for accidentally doing something such as letting a gust of wind reveal some skin, forced into marriages, and raped because parties outside the woman's control said "sure".
      In Muslim countries as well, women are often seen as sinful, like... they are terrible people but you don't say anything because you don't have evidence. If a woman gives you a shred of evidence she isn't holy, that could be the end of her, like it was for Farkhunda. Farkhunda was _accused_ of burning the Quran and she was beaten with a pole, stoned, stomped, run over, burned and much more by a very large crowd.
      Does America, England, Australia, Germany, France, Canada, etc. need Feminism? No.
      Does almost every third world nation? Yes.
      Sure, sexism in the workplace and in the public space in general is bad, but feminazis seem to only care about themselves. Not equality, not other women.
      I see Jontron's feminism point. At least he's right, there.

    I disagree with what Adam said about people who are not known for being political, should not be political. It's like when Colin Kaepernick protested the National Anthem and everyone said he should stop and just play football because that is what he gets paid to do. But that mindset is wrong. Elyse sort of points out that they have a platform, an audience in which people would listen to and who look up to. They bring light to prolems or issues that many maybe unaware of, or to show their support for a cause. Like when Shailene Woodley protested the Dakota Pipeline, she brought bigger awareness to the situation and showed her support for it. Just because you are an actor, football player, director, or RUclips content creator, does not mean you lose your voice. If anything more celebrities should voice their concern for issues that plague our nation and/or world. But celebrities should also be aware of the consequences that come from voicing your concern. But if your career or public image is more important than the issues that affect millions of people or whatever, than that is a problem you need to solve on your own

    Like, he could have moved to a more homogenous place in America but he chose one of the most diverse cities in the world.

      Stop with the dismissal tactics. Most of my family came from NY (uptown) and I myself have lived both there and NJ. The tristate can be super-segregated at times. You see some mixing in certain working-class neighborhoods, but middle and especially upper class sections are often seas of homogeneity.

    • @GabriellCarpes
      @GabriellCarpes 7 лет назад

      H here's the thing though. That's not what he said. He said multiculturalism is a myth and if that's true then I guess Broadway musicals, Jazz and all the social and cultural live in big cities and NY are just things I imagined.
      Now if you wanna say segregation still exists then yeah, it does and we're working to eliminate it in spite of people like you and the other anon troll who's just a letter and a color over there.

    • @GabriellCarpes
      @GabriellCarpes 7 лет назад

      SlickTone 6 he chose to go there to work on his RUclips career, there's a reason he didn't chose Bowling Green but chose NY. What drew him to NY is what he says he doesn't like and he can't see that. Sounds like you can't either son but don't worry, we'll continue to work towards inclusion and multiculturalism and then you can enjoy the awesome results of our work while claiming you hate us. Just like Jontron did, forgetting that his parents where, at one point, "somebody else's babies"

    • @kongming66
      @kongming66 7 лет назад

      So you're accusing me of being a troll...?
      Multiculturalism isn't a myth, per se, but how and when you're exposed to it (in NY) will often depend on your income bracket. Part of the charm for the city for these hipsters flying in from all over the country is the ability to pick and choose what bubble you experience. Of course, NY is NY and locals will go wherever the fuck they please, and unless you're insanely rich the poorer elements will seep through the cracks of your safe space eventually.
      I've seen many transients like JonTron have the same reaction when they have to come face-to-face with the real residents of the city, and they project it totally on the black and/or brown populations. People from the nicer boroughs and Long Island do it as well, so it's not just a rest of the country thing. I've noticed that even whites from the city don't always notice when other whites in NY hustle them, but they really start noticing it when it comes from PoCs. It straddles a fine line between bias and open contempt.
      Other cities I've been to don't hold a candle to NY's intensity, especially when it comes to crime. Shit, Oakland seemed relatively safe to me. In most other places, crime revolves almost exclusively around drugs, and usually only the most heinous or dirt poor gangs target just anyone. In NY, however, everyone's fair game. You have to grow up fighting and learn how to behave like a predator just not to get fucked with, so anyone you walk into is a potential victim. People who don't grow up in that don't understand it, and the knee-jerk reaction is to take it as a race thing. And that has caused a lot of marginalization and gentrification in the city, beginning in full swing with Giuliani and capitalized on by Bloomberg, and De Blasio has only made tepid attempts to curtail it. So the few times people have to deal with the poorer residents of NY, they take it as some kind of existential crisis.

    My political comment on Funhaus for the millenium:
    The term "Western culture" isn't a synonym for "White culture", and for example in the majority of uses, Russia (a nearly all white country) is considered an eastern culture. It's a term used to describe the sets rules and regulations both written and unwritten, how people interact with each other, what we see as crime and not crime, how we react to said crimes, our politics, all kinds of things.
    Just as an example, in a lot of "Eastern culture" we wouldn't even be having this debate because speaking out against your country or your governing body is a crime and would either have you in prison or dead. This is a value of western culture, when people say that term. When people say that western culture is superior to other cultures, they're not saying whites are better than non-whites, they're saying that the way "western" countries even letting people discuss these topics instead of throwing them into a slave labor camp is superior.
    Having seen a lot of the Jon Tron discussions, and actually listened to them, you have to be doing some kind of mental gymnastics if you think Jon is saying that whites are a superior race or if you think he's any kind of supremacist, especially if he references Japan as a near utopian society. (On that subject, Japan's biggest social issues are their work ethic and declining birth rates. They work themselves to death and they don't fuck. Not the same kind of issues that a lot of other countries are facing.)
    Anyways, time to never comment politics again. But man, I can't wait for the rule34 that comes out of this.

The only stupid thing he did was open his mouth and try to make his opinion fact without evidence. However, Destiny having some facts that favor his opinion does not make his opinion fact as well. The best way to handle this is to just look at this from the outside with evidence that shows both sides of the argument. Bruce did an excellent job of this.

      Are you implying Carl is smarter than Destiny? Because that's not even half true, Carl didn't understand anything he was talking about in any debate he's had with Destiny.

    culture is different than race. Are all races good? YES! are all cultures good? NO! yes, I'm referring to the horrific treatment of women and gays by the Muslim culture

      Lol because women and gays are treated so well by Christian culture.
      Oh wait...

      Don't get me wrong. I think all religions are silly and ridiculous. But whether you like it or not, a main part of American culture is Christian culture, and I think women and gays do exceptionally well here. Muslim culture goes a little beyond silly when they stone women to death for being raped and literally throw gay people off of roof tops. I would like to ban all religions, but let's start with the ones actually do harm

      Biskit Sam how come every time someone mentions Muslims doing something bad people like you bring up Christians

      Newsflash, Sam: Western Christians aren't murdering gays on a seemingly-daily basis. They might not approve of gay marriage, but they aren't making a public spectacle of killing gays in the name of deity. The Christian Bible is full of fucked-up shit, but it's worth considering whether or not it's just information (ie, people did fucked-up things but not condoned by Jebus) or a command for modern times.

    I watch funhaus because you guys are really good at being funny. I use your channel as an escape from the real world, and I don't really want to be reminded about the divided political climate of America when I'm watching people I view as characters. I get it you guys are people too and have opinions but that's not what I come to funhaus for.

      as a fellow funhaus scrobble, i can understand where you're coming from FERUMize. however I would suggest for you to either skip or not watch their stuff when they get into political stuff. it's pretty rare, so it's easy to avoid. Or on the flip side, do what I do, and have the podcast on in the background while playing overwatch. it really doesn't matter what they talk about then

      The Eastern and Western Hemispheres are defined by timezones East and West of 0 GMT or 0 UTC.
      Western Culture however has spread East past 0 all the way to New Zealand.
      There's no East and West in a scientific sense, but you bet your ass there's an East and West in a cultural/political sense.

      Which west is that exactly? Everyone has their own ideas of what it is . For most people (like you) they project the culture of where they live , and their own ideas into the "west" I'm sure you also think America is amazing (except for all the people you don't like )

People should have the legal right to say whatever they want, but I feel absolutely zero sympathy for people who are butthurt about getting marginalized for supporting/being white supremacists.

    • @AL-ry5ly
      @AL-ry5ly 7 лет назад +12

      Just. Don't. Watch. The. Video. It had a left-leaning slant because the point of a podcast is to listen in on real conversations with real people. These people happen to be left-leaning and it's related to the topic at hand. There are 113 other podcasts that they have up that aren't political. Don't tell them to stop making videos about a topic you don't personally like when it's one in 114.

    • @harnessedhorse
      @harnessedhorse 7 лет назад

      Its fine that they are involved in controversy, thats how they get views. Politics however shouldn't be displayed with just one side speaking (like this video), but that is another topic. Your point of 113 other podcasts without politics helps to prove my point. Funhaus is "out of their realm" with this. It shows with videos like Madden Racist receiving significantly less dislikes than this one, because they were able to approach controversy without alienating a significant (while be it not a majority) of their audience. These videos are not good for their channel. my problem was also not with the "topic" because I "don't personally like [it]" my problem was with the the lack of representation for the other side of the argument. I personally support Jontrons view that we are experiencing a persecution of white identity like never before and believe he simply hasn't spent enough time learning of the studies and being able to articulate his view. I also do not feel any channel should tackle an issue as broad as this one within in only around an hour of runtime. like I said this is expected with them not being "career politicians or heavily involved in politics.". If they brought in experts from both sides or at least considered one side as having a base in facts I would be happy to see it.
