I was OBSESSED with You’re So Cold when the album was first released and I was convinced it should have been a single at some point. I’m really happy that you are finally going on the Mariah discography journey, can’t wait for you to experience all her 90s albums. I’m old enough to remember when the album came out and listening to it for the first time, thank you for the memories!
"Can't Let Go" not going #1 is literally a tragedy 💯 Its one of my favorite songs and it highly upsets me it was cheated lol. I forget you live close by in Chicago lamby 💙
This was the album that introduced me to Mariah💜 My mom bought it and played it everyday. Me, my mom and my sister would just sit by the stereo and sing our hearts out to every song but our favorites were 'So Blessed and 'You're so Cold' (which should have been a single!) 😁😁😁
C'mon! This is the album that made me fell in love with her completely after listening to #1's and Daydream 😍 To me there's no filler material, no song to skip (especially The Wind, which is a moving closing number)
It's really interesting that you mentioned Aretha after "If It's Over" because Carole King wanted Mariah to cover "Natural Woman," but Mariah wanted to write a new song with her because she reveres Aretha so much
I'm a Lamb and a Fighter so thats insane that the fandoms don't get along. I wonder if it's just the toxic fan's from each since as I've learned through the years every fandom has them and the rest of us just don't claim them!!!
What!!! I'm definitely a Lamb and I can't call myself a Fighter since I don't know all of xtina's discography but I will promptly correct anyone that denies she is the best vocalist of her generation. Still I just can't imagine not loving them both! I'm mean to not is just ignorant.
My fave Mariah album. Incidentally the first Mariah album I ever bought back in the early 90s. I doubt she would be able to perform many of these songs live. Her vocals have changed.
Awww, I'm 48yrs old. Way back when I was 16, I had a boyfriend who loved Mariah Carey. We'd sit around for hours listening to these songs. He was the singer so he tried to hit the notes. Awww, what memories. He's Italian-American, I'm Mexican-American, in Florida.
I agree. I love the live versions of Make It Happen (Madison Square Garden for me). If It’s Over (SNL or Grammy’s) and even Can’t Let Go. They have more of a bite. To Be Around You and Till The End of Time are big favorites from her. She hasn’t performed most of her stuff. If it wasn’t a (promo) single, it likely doesn’t have a performance.
Nice seeing you Sal doing this. Thank you! Let me again remind you ( if you have forgotten, lol! ) that i'm the one who told you that you look like zac efron. So Blessed may remind you of the sister single in Daydream called Forever and O Holy Night because of the percussion and piano in the beginning.
Fun fact about this album is that Mariah is the sole lyricist on the whole project. Any co-writer did not contribute to the lyrics but only to the melody alongside Mariah!!!
Fantastic album by Mariah. My favorites are Emotions (obvious), Till The End of Time and The Wind. The Wind is very jazzy, and it also reminds me of a song by Kylie Minogue called "Stay This Way" from her Hits+ compilation album.
Cant Let Go was holding at #2 - Ace of Base's phenomenon The Sign was freefalling. CLG held steady at #2 for 5 weeks and was going to hit #1. There was nobody else coming out. Analysts stated the soonest it would hit was in 2 wks. Tommy Mottola called up record stores to have the song REMOVED from shelves and shipped back to the company. That costs them money. CLG was going to outsell and become a bigger hit than Emotions, the song Mottola had picked to debut. Her album was supposed to be called The Wind and he changed that too. Increasing her album sales was his excuse.
I'll tell you something that's not well known anymore about this album. It was a dedication to black music throughout different decades. She has gospel, soul, jazz, and R&B. The Wind is a 1920's jazz throwback and If It's Over was inspired by the 1960's for example, that's another reason she worked with Carole King. Many people don't understand her debut was an ode to the 80's covering all the genres that were popular during that time period in addition to things that were specifically "Mariah".
I'm not sure how much the baby lambs are aware of 90's Mariah, but she never toured until '94 - and that was just 2 weeks. She rarely toured during the 90's. Since So Blessed wasn't a single, she wouldn't have performed this live. Dido to the rest of the unreleased tracks, Glitter, MIAM.
This is one of Mariah’s best album cause it was a Pop Album that incorporated all the Popular Music Genres during that time You got the Pop, R&B, Dance Pop, Soul and Gospel all in this album and also this album is probably Mariah’s most Vocally Challenging Album with songs like Emotions, Make It Happen, So Cold, To Be Around You, If It’s Over and So Blessed Mariah is showing more of Her Upper Belting Register a lot of F5 and G5 in this album and of course those Whistles Register is a must, overall this is one of Mariah’s most Cohesive and Wide Range albums when it comes to the Music Genres that You got in this album 😊👍🏼 and Great Reaction Btw 😊💙
Completely agree with the “live is better than studio” comment about Make It Happen. You can also stream the live from Madison Square Garden version now too. 😊
I really thought you were going to be more enthusiastic about her singing jazz in the Wind, but you were Meh!! hahahaha. I mean she was 21 and she sounded like a freaking pro. People are just too used to expecting greatness from her.
''Can't Let Go'' was not a n.1 song, because Sony wanted to push the sales of the album instead of the sales of the single, because the sales of the album was less important to the first album, but this song was very successful. ''Make It Happen'' was in fact hugely promoted including radios and MTV in 1992. And also, this song and the titlle track was the only songs to she performed live today since her released. For me, this album was a good album and with the timeless sound of this. But ''To Be Around You'' was my least favorite track of this album (not so much fan of this song). Favorite: ''Till the End of Time'' Least Favorite: ''To Be Around You''
Did you guys hear Mariah left roc nation. She got into an argument with Jay-Z. She is planning to release an R&B album and tour ! I’m excited. I love emotions. I think So Blessed was one of my fav songs on the album
I will NOT STAND any negative comments about The Wind or Til The End of Time I simply WILL NOT!!!!
Sorry Darling!

Oh and you better get used to Mariah paying dust to fan favorites! 😆😆😆
Her team pushed her so far vocally for this album!
They truly did!
Ooooh...I cant wait! I love "So Blessed" and "The Wind"....
And "Can't Let Go."
YAAAS

I love “So Blessed!” so much, too! This album 😍😍😍.

Such a vocally exhausting album. Mariah DID that
She really did!
TILL THE END TIME !!!! THAT DAMN SONG!!!!
THAT DAMN SONG!

YAAAS
yay for a mariah review!
YAAASS DAHRLING
An example of 90's vibes and nostalgia😭😊
100 percent!
Love that you always pay tribute to the album covers in your thumbnail ❤️
Glad you like them!
Mariah Said Til The End of Time is one her favorites off the album . It’s a bop tho 👏🏾
Totally!
The wind is disgustingly underrated, most of the album is actually 😩
Beautiful!
This is fantastic I was just listening to this vinyl tonight then this popped up .
We love that! Since the reaction I've finally been able to spin my copy of the vinyl. It sounds immaculate!
OMG MC Series !!!!!! Finally !

This album IMO is Mariah’s most underrated album.

You're So Cold in my opinion is the best track in this album and one of my favorite tracks of Mariah and Music history

According to her Twitter today that's not true!
Sal: Mariah Carey voice got raspy because she has vocal nodules that she never corrected
I wish I could hate those nodules but I don't!
She couldn’t correct them for fear of losing her vocal capabilities such as her whistles and some of her belting capabilities
isn't this her 2nd album? and lol to the video where Mariah said You're so Cold is no longer worth listening to haha
lol! She's wrong about that
When are you going to review Mariah's The Emancipation of Mimi? One of her best albums
