This deserves an award, you showed me everything I needed to know. My ceiling is slightly larger water damage but I’m giving it a crack. Really appreciate your fantastic video mate well done.
This was the most thorough video I have watched yet. Your were very clear on the products and steps used from start to finish. The accent is awesome too!
Thanks for keeping the light hole mishap in the video because I have a small repair to do and what you showed here was exactly what I will need to do. I don't need to put a whole panel up, just a small spot. Great video, easy to follow, clear instructions. Bravo!
I just came across your video. This is just what I need to do. Such a good Aussie build channel. I prefer the Aussie building channels. Keep up the good work.
I love your disclaimer. I'm licensed in carpentry, painting, and drywall. I have people ask me all the time. "Do you do tile?" My reply is "Yes at my own home. I can tile but not like a pro." There is a lot to be said about a knowledgeable professional. They make it look easy
This 4 years old video still very helpful. After searching tens of videos finally found this specifically for what indeed to fix in my garage. Thank you!!
I'm not the DIY type, but what a great video - a joy to watch. You know when you're watching a good instructor when you start thinking to yourself "I reckon I could do that!"
Iam doing Civil and Structural engineering; basically i learn more from you and i understand the working process of the work. Really good job you doing; Keep on doing sir. thank you.
Excellent explanation of the steps involved and should give anyone the confidence to do something like this. Very Professional video. Gentlemen : Never be afraid to try a repair because with each attempt you'll gain knowledge and confidence to do better each time.
Lol. "Safety squints" are my go to PPE when doing work at home too. Coz OH&S is actually your missus, and she's more concerned about you scratching the furniture.
I like it when DIYers mess up in a video. It shows that everyone makes mistakes, helps viewers prevent that mistake (we’ll be making plenty more of our own), and if we DO make that mistake, it helps us learn how to repair it. But most importantly, reminds us that even the best of us makes mistakes...and a mistake is nothing more than a hands-on learning experience and future conversation material. 🙂
Are dehumifers worth using and do they kill mold already in a room or do they just stop new mold appearing also is salt effective and ok to use in dehumifers that have crystals in the top of dehumifer when Crystal's have run out I have mold in my bedroom and I use dehumifers and I dont wanna have to keep buying more dehumifers
I would say that I think most people would have common sense.... Then I realized this man is helping those who don't which is surprisingly a lot of fucking people...
I mean the video title doesn’t say anything about fixing a leak. That’s a completely different problem. He probably assumed that you would do that but this video is just talking about repairing the wall which on its own is a task.
Greatly helpful video. And I liked the way you dealt with a stuff-up - which most of us would make - and incorporated a helpful fix for that too. Fantastic real-life solution! Thank you.
Great work, learned to wear eye protection all the time (the hard way) and using the knife to cut wall board "C" clamps hold down your guide reduces serious cuts to hand and body at ER Centers. Agreed, the first one is the hardest to do.
This may be the greatest drywall patch/repair video I have seen on RUclips. ...and to think, this journey started with me shooting a hole in the ceiling of my brand new home. 😂 The gods definitely have a sense of humor.
Great video and the result looks really good. But now I'm confused. You primed/painted directly onto the new plaster board. Should this nor have been plastered like the original ceiling? Does it not have a different texture to it now compared to the rest of the ceiling? Thanks.
Nice job. The only thing I'd have done differently would be to use fiberglass mesh on the butt joints since , while it's a bit thicker than paper, it doesn't need to be coated on both sides, so it sits in one layer of joint filler instead of between two layers, so the whole thing is a bit flatter and needs less feathering-out and sanding.
I've been doing my own home repairs for years although, when it comes to mudding gyproc, I'm more or less self taught hit or miss. This was helpful because it shows me a couple tricks I didn't know. All that said, I'm thinking "1200" is 4 feet, and "400" is a little over a foot. All that base ten stuff is just needless simplification. Give me fractions any day and don't even think of taking away my Babylonian number based time keeping devices Cheers from northern Canada.
This was so helpful! thank you!! xx (Also please don't apologise to trolls and smartasses for your skills! :/ Let them make their own videos helping people for free if they know better and want attention so bad... More than likely they just want the attention.)
Great vid. I'm motivated to try my own repair. Just wondering about materials. That's an awfully big pot of mud. Can we DIYers buy much smaller quantities, and does the unused mud store for long, or has to be chucked ? Cheer, much appreciated.
I always use a hammer to smash out a fist size hole. I then feel around the hole so there’s no wires I’ll cut with my saw. Then enlarge the hole so that you can again have a look as you suggest. ‘Ideally’ do the former with lights and sockets power off, though not always possible. Thank you for the video.
Great video! I'll be doing it next week for a smaller area, but wanted to make sure I had all the steps right. This REALLY helped! Hopefully the instructions are the same for the US. :)
Is the black spots on the roof at the beginning Mold? I have some on my wall and the whole walls soggy and soft from an ac dripping on it only for about a day, but there’s spots just like in this video on the wall
That was fab thanks!! Definitely just going to fix my ceiling myself - love that I don't have to call a man to do it!! Although great to have your tutelage
Such an excellent job! I do admit I skimmed, as I'm in dire need to find somebody to repair my ceiling back here in the UK; but generally, was this process all pulled off in a day? Or several days?
I normally use the vaccum shop with the vaccum bag and the sander attached to it, that way you will avoid having dangerous dust all over you and every where else in the house

I have a few spots to fix so thanks for the tips, had a "friend" who is a drywaller and he wanted $200 bucks for a 2 ft hole, don't think so, gonna do myself,
Hello I have a plasterboard ceiling in my bathroom and there is a remarkable lack of ventilation in there. Because of the painting and the plaster gets moisturized and mold comes out in the bathroom every two or three years, It strikes me that may be a solution to cover the plasterboard ceiling with vynils (PVC foils, like the one that is used to cover the walls). Does anyone knows if this is a good idea or by the contrary there will be dripping moisture condensed in the PVC (after taking showers, for example). Thank you.
Id try and get some ventilation into the room first mate, can a mechanical vent be installed into the ceiling or wall and be ducted to the exterior of the building? This would solve the majority of the problem if you could.
Great Work. I recommend not putting tape on like that. Never Put tape on with one long strip starting at the front and ending at the end. Always start at the middle and go one way, come back to middle and go the other way. You want longevity. On job sites, I can tell who has done it properly and has not. It holds longer over time when there is pressure against each other with the tape. It creates a strong hold at the joints. Also, it is recommended with the tape he used, to put a light layer on tape and then over tape. The video was great and solid. Great work otherwise, but taping is very important 10-20 years down the line, you WILL find your ceiling or walls peeling. It happens in high moisture environments where humidity is present.
tatyana is right don't apologize for trolls but my, question is ?? i hate sheet rock but i was thinking of putting in a false ceiling for that hole i got would that be almost the same? cause i dont have to cut a hole
My basement ceiling is like that and I had a plumber in to replace a few valves who lectured me about never sawing into a wall if there is any chance of hitting pipes or wires. You can gently hack out all the soft plaster with a pry bar or something similar, then carefully lay in pieces of drywall and mud to fill whatever is not there . As long as you stay below the original surface, you'll do no harm . It will take longer , but it will be a lot quicker than cleaning up after a flood.

Really impressed and the patch repair was an added bonus for me, thanks!
Great job man. You do better than u give yourself credit for.
SAFE to check FIRST on affected circuit lines and turning it off if there's any, before making any cut on the affected plasterboards.
Great video. professional or not it still looks great!

about $ 900 + - 10% including material & labour and painting would be fair price.
