    For those not familiar with the score: at 43:26 the oboe begins a note that blossoms (literally!) into the Good Friday Spell music as the meadow bursts into bloom. For me this is one of the most touchingly beautiful passages in all of Wagner.

      Parsifal is based on the Judeo-Christian myth of Jesus's grail. As an Aryan, it disgusts me that Wagner made this work.

    Bravo!

    The criticisms of Vogt are entirely unfounded. So far as I know, we don't have recordings of Wagner's tenors, but we do have recordings of the next generation of Wagnerian tenors. A comparison of the recording of Muck using the tenor Pistor shows an almost identical sound to Vogt when parallel passages are considered. Muck was the Wagner family's chosen successor to Levi as conductor of Parsifal, and he conducted all performances of the opera at Bayreuth between 1903 and 1930.
    De gustibus non disputandum est, however taste is entirely personal and has no validity in any accurate evaluation. Vogt may be as close to the Bayreuth ideal of Parsifal that we can come.

    I agree: I truly love his unpretentious, heartfelt interpretation!! He doesn't try to be what he's not; he goes with his strengths and gives it his best - and yes, such an approach works remarkably well with Parsifal, though I can see he might not be appropriate as Siegfried or probably Tristan.
    Otherwise, one wonders if all 3 acts were after all done on the same evening!! Truly, regardless: were I able to be there, being there a total of 4½ or 5 hours would be AMPLY WORTH IT - beautiful!!!

    After Melchior, Windgassen is my favorite. He was dignified, had impeccable diction and sang with great legato. I think Wagner, who by the way considered himself to be a bel canto composer, would have loved Windgassen. This tenor at least is not shouting as so many Wagnerian singers are apt to do.

  • @MariaCaIIas

    Why should a singer have a sound like all the others.... His (Vogt) sound is exceptionally musical and not small at all -I heard him live a couple of times. What does a "typical" Wagner voice have to be like... the most exceptional singers in history had a very personal sound after all.

  • @yvesgerard1308

    The criticisms regarding Klaus Florian Vogt as Parsifal in this series remind me about what happened with Ívo Pogorélich and the great controversy that erupted at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, one fine year: half the jury gave him the best possible marks, while the other half gave him the worst possible evaluation!!! It seems that one can't really agree on some sort of middle ground - you love him (as I do here) or you hate him!! Are our standards wrong??? 5/5

  • @LJBSasha
    @LJBSasha 11 лет назад +1

    I say 5/5 because of not only Klaus Florian Vogt but all the other performers including the orchestra: some lovely playing by the principal woodwinds and brass in addition to wonderful ensemble work, even if they're not quite the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orkest or the Berlin Philharmonic. Generally I agree with much of what the conductor does - the one facet I could really pick upon is those "bells". They're not bad, yet you know that they're not real cathedral/church bells...

    Eine sehr schöne Aufführung des "Parsifal", kein überflüssiger "heldischer" Bombast und dadurch demütiger dem sprituellen Gehalt gegenüber als andere, was der Oper nur gut tut.

    • @JohnBorstlap
      @JohnBorstlap 6 лет назад

      He lays it too thick on, everything is over-expressive which is not necessary, the music is expressive enough. You can hear that Holl forces his voice which is often 'breaking', too heavy, he wants too much.

  • @Isolde227

    Always this heavy criticism of Klaus Florian Vogt. I grant you: he has a voice unlike any other Wagnerian singer, but that makes him so unique and wonderful.
    I must admit that personally I prefer Jonas Kaufmann, but I still love Vogts approach as well. It's breathtaking.

    Parsifal is supposed to be a teenager and Klaus Florian Vogt has a very juvenile voice, so it makes sense. Do I like it? Not really. I find it bland and if I think about Windgassen, Jerusalem or even Domingo, I think that KFV is actually not a Heldentenor. I like this version though because Robert Holl is a fantastic Gurnemanz.

    • @georgepolyzoides6846
      @georgepolyzoides6846 10 лет назад

      michel-philippe Lehaire I agree with your comments, From the sound of this performance it appears that Mr. Vogt`s pleasant voice lacks the low notes that all heldentenors must have. His low notes are weak and colorless. I would also prefer some more volume and body. Maybe these will come with time. Mr, Holl`s Kurnemanz is very good but the big stars of this performance are the conductor and the orchestra. Those listeners that can, must compare the ethereal and mystic sound of this wondeful performance with the hard and heroic sound of last year’s Met Parsifal.

    • @lamouchejeanluc980
      @lamouchejeanluc980 7 лет назад +1

      You-re wrong, because Parsifal must be absolutly not have an heldentenor's voice character, but a lyic and dramatic one... The only wagnerians characters of heldentenor's wagnerian voices are Tannhauser, Tristan and Siegfried...

    Vogt is incongruous in this role. He is just wrong. His pitch is great but his entire voice is wrong wrong wrong. I googled him as I hadn't heard of him, and read a review published last week by Jessica Duchin. She says it all.
    Now for some serious Wagnerian Sturm und Drang we have Falk Struckmann weighing in mightily at around 1:01. Damn. Powerful singing.

  • @lechat176

    Karl is a lyric tenor and even though he can sing this rep it still doesn't make it right. That's my opinion anyway I prefer to hear a Jugendlicher Heldentenor or a Heldontenor singing this.
