You're damn correct. The only genuine real USB 3.1 gen 2 with those 10Gbps speeds I got was when it was included when buying a 3.1 gen 2 SSD M.2 enclosure.
@@filipposgstathopoulos wouldnt go that far. between 1.0 to 2.0 and 2.0 to 3.0 it gets 10 to 20 times faster, 3.0 to 3.1, 3.1 to 3.2 only get 2 times fater, so not worth a new ''.0''
I think that this is already too complicated. I think more that 99% of all customers don't care about the data lanes and if someone does ... just Google it. I would just prefer the naming like in the comment from Thu Ya Win. Maybe write the max transfer speed behind on product pages. Would be much more interesting than the lane configuration.
Well, we never actually saw Dumbledore express any interest in a woman. And his closest personal relationship in his youth was with Grindelwald. So his being gay isn't that crazy. Hermione is white in my books tho. She got to okay the book drawings and casting of Elizabeth Watson. So she obviously imagined her as white before.
Now that is a halfway decent idea. Someone should start a campaign to force them to use a better naming scheme. Would need to be someone that has a bit of pull in the tech industry and that could get a couple manufactures onboard.
I would really like to call them USB 1.0 USB 2.0 USB 3.0 USB 4.0 USB 5.0 that way is much easier to remember and distinguish between each of the versions
The REAL problem with post-launch renaming of products comes when you need support. What search term do you use? Because in the earlier support topics and forums they will call things by the former name. And in recent forums they will sometimes use the new name, or sometimes the old name, or even worse, use the 2 mixed together... And the official channels will call them by their marketing name, while pretending they don’t know the real spec’s name. How is anyone going to find relevant topics? “I’m looking for driver for my usb 3.1 device.” -Ok but which 3.1 do you mean the first one or the renamed one? “Idk it just says USB 3 superspeed”
SuperSpeed (without 10gpbs at the end) means the device is usb 3.0 = 3.1 gen 1 = 3.2 gen 1x1. Saying "3.1" without the gen is leaving out crucial information.
@@janjohansson2567 Yeah, however if you aren't on top of the stupid naming schemes you would have no idea what the people were talking about nor would you think it was relevant to your issue. Problem with just renaming things on a whim is that topic that might be relevant to an issue might be dismissed because the product is renamed differently. Most people who see to things renamed differently are going to assume that they are two different things.
i guess most of the time the answer to the question of the support guy will be "dunno, has a blue plug...." the whole thing with the version number and any additions to it like .2 or x2 will only ever be known by IT personell and even then only if they happened to stumble across a problem with it before. the average consumer wont know or even care which revision his gadget uses as long as it works and only get mad if he gets told that he bought older slower tech when he is shown and explained the same gadget with the newer tech.
@@ebanavorio to be fair, she never specified skin colour in the books, but isn't she now turning everyone gay even when she originally implied they weren't? I don't know, honestly, its weird and I don't want to get on the wrong side of any of it.
USB 3.0 = 5Gbps USB 3.1 = 10Gbps USB 3.2 = 20Gbps That's what it should be. Let's just start calling it that and ignore what USB-IF says, just like the Titan Xpp.
@@pangkan270 there's no major difference in USB 3.0 and 3.1, more of a protocol thing and not a physical thing like usb2 vs usb3. The USB 3.2 gen 2x2, on the other hand, could have been USB 4 or USB 3.3. They could reserve USB4 for a purely Type-C spec. Or imo just append a 'C' in the name if it's a type C like USB 3.3C so you could get cables like usb3.1 to usb3.1C for connecting your desktop PC to your external drive or phone. This for me is better because the performance of a type C cable also depends on the cable's spec (usb3, 3.1, 3.2) and not just because its type C. Likewise, cables could be called USB2C cables so people dont mistakenly buy a usb2 type c cable. Tldr USB4 is better for a port or protocol that is majorly different enough -- e.g. type C or a new orange 15-lane TYPE A Port.
The problem comes when you buy some USB3.2 thingy, but it turns out that is only Gen1, and you expected Gen 2x2. Of course, it won't be clearly marketed.
USB 2.0 should now be USB 3.2 Gen -1 USB 1.1 should now be USB 3.2 Gen -1.9 USB 1.0 should now be USB 3.2 Gen -2 And we'll skip Gen 0 because then other Gens would make fun of it.
Cant forget Gen X, Y, Z and Baby Boomers. Everyone loves bringing those up for some reason! But what to call those? USB Gen BB - 2 (Because on average they had 2 children) USB Gen X - 40 (Because thats the age they currently are roughly) USB Gen Y + 20 (Because they're 20~ years older than Gen X) USB Gen Z _ Y2K (Because they're born around the year 2000)
LOL, I love that you put Comcast/Xfinity up on screen - I worked for them for 10 years as a residential and commercial installer and during that transition period when they "changed names" it made little sense to me - though, on a sidenote, it makes a little bit of sense at least - Comcast, the corporation owns various subsidiaries such as NBC Universal etc.. I guess it is their way to distinguish between their television/internet services and other services or media they provide. Anyhow, I still remember pulling into a customers driveway with my new van and them saying "I am so glad to see Xfinity here, I hate Comcast and if they sent them out I would have asked you to leave" - I just chuckled and went about getting their service sorted out. Good times
USB Executive Replacement: Just pick a name, call it whatever you want, I don't care. USB Engineer Replacement: "This is my moment, I will follow in the last engineers footsteps. FU** THIS PLACE."
There are two layouts I can think of that would fix this completely. USB 1.0 USB 1.1 USB 2.0 USB 3 Gen 1 USB 3 Gen 2 USB 3 Gen 3 OR USB 1.0 USB 1.1 USB 2.0 USB 3.0 USB 3.1 USB 3.2
Or they could start learn the basics of numbers again to not confuse the hell out of people rather than giving the different versions random names since the speed is the only thing that matters, and was originally the definition of the USB (x) number. The only physical difference between earlier versions and 3 is the 5 extra pins. That with the (x).0 , (x).1 , (x).2 and gen v's add-on number is more a marketing thing to make it look better that I find silly and dumb when they can change the first number instead (if the same plug can be used on all versions). If the USB 3.2 with 2 lanes can't work with 1, it should be called UPB (for Universial Parallel Bus) instead and have a complete new socket and plug design since the Serial in (Universial Serial Bus = USB) means 1 single lane that transfers 1 bit per clock cycle (more failure proof but slower and depends ONLY on the clock speed), and Parallel transfers several bits on individual lanes per cycle (less failure proof but much faster and depends on booth the number of lanes and the clock speed). That would be more correct to call it.
1 more option USB 1.0 USB 1.1 USB 2.0 USB 3.0 USB 3.1 USB 4.0 Or USB 1 USB 1.1 USB 2.0 USB 3 also known as USB 3.0 USB 3 Gen 2 Also Known As USB 3.1 USB 3 Gen 3 Also Known As USB SS or SUPER SPEED
I genuinely think the majority of consumers see it more like: - "USB old rectangle / blue rectangle" - "Small rounded one like a phone charger - is that called USB as well? Ok, weird." - "USB funny shape. Oh that's an HDMI port and I've run out of USB ports." Calling them 1, 2, 3 3.1 or A, B C has no meaning to the average person.
and..... this is the best game plan for marketing ever... Too bad Uncommon sense rules MOST of us.... so they took screwy names to confuse customers more
I understand your frustration but the marketing department has their own reasons too. An average consumer buys hardly 7 devices in a year and that may or may not use USB. That is why your everyday consumers are definitely going to be the stupidest ones. Now by the consumer's point of view they know that their computer supports USB 3 but if they want to purchase any device online and the detail specification says USB 4 then they would not buy that product. I hope now you get my point. Always remember that you are living in the world of stupids so think like a stupid.
Which is a rude way to put it, but it's absolutely true. Most customers don't know much about PC-tech. Just like we PC guys probably don't have deep knowledge in most other product categories. Ya can't know it all...
no, since the data lines are STILL serial. Parallel means that each bit of a single byte travels parallel in 1 burst, so bit 1, 2, 3 and 4 for example would move at the exact same time each on their own cable as a group 'message', serial means the bits all move individually in a cue and get reassembled at the other end into bytes. Two parallel data lines just means twice of that, the bits being sent on each line have no direct byte relation to each other.
How about some extra free cells and an aditional red fabric marker in a bundle, in case they do change it again? This would really point out the idiocy of the topic 🤦

For techies, we would have liked it more as simply GTX 2060 and RTX 2060, but some people might just look at the number, so they made the GTX 2060's number sound something in between. GPU model numbers have always been easy. Though past the GTX 700 series, nVidia kind of 'pulled ahead' in terms of performance level numbers/tiers so that xx70 of nvidia cards are xx50/xx70 of Radeon cards. Anyhow. The last digit always designates a sub-model number, the second last being the performance tier, and the remaining one or two digits being the generation. So a gtx 1060 is generation 10, performance tier 6, submodel 0. For radeons, an RX580 is generation 5, performance tier 8, submodel 0. In older cards like the Radeon HD7000 series and the Geforce 8000 series, the left most number is the generation, the second left being the perf tier, and the last two being the submodel. So a Radeon 7770 is Gen 7, Perf 7, Submodel 70 which is faster than the submodel 50 (7750). Likewise, a Geforce 8800 GTX is Gen8, Perf tier 8, submodel 00 GTX which is faster than submodel 00 GTS.
Ullu mullu Yeah, USB C basically broke all the fundamental promises, such as the inability to accidentally connect two inputs or two outputs, with a clearly defined shape for two-way connections on stuff like smartphones. And they also came up with at least 3 not backward compatible plugs (double decker big B, side-by-side micro B and mixed-use-expect-short-circuits C). Oh, and they managed to choose a clock frequency that ruins nearby WiFi unless really carefully sealed. It's basically becoming SCSI.
They need to redesign type c plug. It just went loose in like 2 weeks. I am not a isheep. But lightning cable just did the job well at least on smartphone.

@@janjohansson2567 Your part of the problem
i guess most of the time the answer to the question of the support guy will be "dunno, has a blue plug...."
the whole thing with the version number and any additions to it like .2 or x2 will only ever be known by IT personell and even then only if they happened to stumble across a problem with it before.

But USB 3.2 has two Parallel data lines!
Shouldn't it be called UPB then?
Actually this is true 🤔🤔🤔....
no, since the data lines are STILL serial.

Nvidia gtx 1660
Usb 3.1 gen 1
I'd go with 1660,Nvidia been doing this for years
1660, bcs at Least their number are clearly incremental than the previous one.
I obviously live under a rock....can you explain the 1660 thing?
Graphics cards names have always felt more or less arbitrary to me.
@@dashballantyne612 1660 is the next 1060 ti. But it's just 1070 repackaged I think. Rtx cards area not selling as much as they hoped so they are trying budget cards to compete AMD.
@@dashballantyne612 GTX 1660 is the in-between of GTX 1060 and the RTX 2060. Uses the same processor family as tge RTX 2060, but without the RTX.
And than ask the customer what is USB Type C, Mini-USB, MICRO USB, Type A, Type B and so on...
@@metalstorm54 yeah i Agree, the C plug does need some improvements, make sure there isnt any lint in the hole though that may help.
@@user-by7hj4dj9s I always make sure there isnt any lint in the hole before sticking it in.
