Love it! What a brilliant idea. The only drawback I see is the curiosity of the other cows. If they all decide to join you, it may become a bit crowded! Those are some gnarly horns. I was surprised how easily she maneuvered them around the bars.
I find it so satisfying to watch your videos generally but today's is EXCEPTIONAL in showing your fine way of life. How fortunate your children are to be raised in an environment like this. Just beautiful
okay, I'm naieve with all this, but it seems bella is an intelligent cow. She was in your MILKY WHEY, before you started and seemed to kick the bucket to let you know she had to pee. I love how you have your son pull the spade - hey child labor laws, ha ha ha , this is so cool. Thanks for this, prayers for all your success.
Fossilized bird poop?? Bwahahaha. I had a good belly laugh from your welding joke. If the cattle are scratching up against it then it must be structurally sound. Love your 3 legged stool you got there too. When I milked our cows, I always tucked my body against her side and leaned my head against her "hollow". This helped her to stand still longer and also let down more milk. You are doing great and the build is a real success. Thanks for sharing, your assistant held the camera quite steady.
Hi, great unit. but please allow me to give you a little tip. just near where you placd your head the cow has a cleft between her leg and he belly. push your head into that gap and keep it there. if the cow goes to kick she brings her leg forward everytime (even when kicking backwards). This forward movement will push you clear of the kick zone. It saved me on many occasions as a kid when we were milking.
@@rayjennings3637 Its a thing I was taught by my father and grandfather. They had hand milked thousands of times. power outages and broken machinery couldn't stop milking.
I call that their "hollow" where I place my head. It soothes and balances the cow as well as encouraging more milk let-down. True that it saved me, a short girl, from getting stepped on or kicked.
Perfect name - I think a lot of small farms and smallholders would be interested to have one of their own Milky Wheys! Super video and thank you for the update.
Great job on the mobile milking station. It is the perfect solution to running your milking cow back to the barn every day for milking. BTW, you did a fantastic job training Bella into the head lock. I am really impressed.
Your Milky Whey looks great...a wonderful, ingenious invention!! 👍🏼😊👏 Good going!! I laughed at your "fossilized bird poop" description...haahaa! ☺😉 Bella is a wonderful cow - you have a great bond with her! Really love seeing the family gardening and working together. 😊💞 Your oldest son did a wonderful job with everything that he helped you with! Really love your videos, and lately one of my sons has subscribed to your channel also. He has a small acreage with chickens in Idaho, and is always busy with many homestead projects. Thank you- blessings to you all~ 💗😊💞🐂🐮
You know what is most impressive is your connection with Bella. You have that bucket moved before she even gets close to kicking it. Others need to pay attention!
Many years ago when I was a young girl, we moved from New Jersey to rural Florida where we were able to buy milk fresh from the neighbor's cows. The difference between fresh unpasteurized completely raw milk and store bought is truly like night and day. The cream would be inches thick in the bottles and was sooo good. Eventually the dairy herd went away and we had to go back to store bought. THAT was truly 'blue' milk, thin as water and slightly bluish tint without the cream. You are doing so much to be healthy and independent. I wish only the best for you.
Hahahaha! Watching the video on the computer and my dogs heard you say "... potty?" and both jumped up and started going crazy LOL. so great to see Bella providing so well and being so behaved during the process. You're truly blessed
I am approximately 497 years old and when I was a child we lived on a farm and whatever work my parents were doing we children were right there beside them doing it with them. I can't tell you how much I enjoy seeing a family in 2019 where the children do not always have their noses stuck in some sort of electrical gadget but are rather doing the same thing we did, namely work outside with mom or dad. I also LOVE this breed of cattle. I had never heard of this breed until I came across one of your videos and for the first time in my life I saw a cow who deserves the description of "cute". Lucky is adorable!
So glad to see you again. Awesome Milky Whey, Bella seems too be pleased with it. Great to be able to work with the kids. They will cherish this time later in life. As usual, great job.
Wonderful design for a mobile milking station! I have been thinking about how to use this concept as I move my goats to more pasture. I also thank my "girls" after they give me their milk glad to see you do it as well
That was a great video Simeon. Like the chance to see you milk Bella, the new creative milking station and that wonderful name you gave it. Seeing the irrigation system in your greenhouse and your efficient helpers. Thanks so much for the tour and God bless you and your family. :-)
Great build, functional, strong and simple. For those of us not so lucky as to be around such magnificent animals, please think of giving us a couple hours of those cattle just doing their thing. Would be cool to have a camera set up just before dawn watching their area and watch their morning routine.
Very excited to see someone milking a highland. They're the breed I have my eye on for meat, and if I have cows in milk why not milk them?! Especially when it's just for the family and getting the highest quantity possible isn't an issue. What you're getting would be more than enough for us.
So happy to see that it's going well with Bella. I've always wanted a Highland cow so I'm enjoying living vicariously thru you and your beautiful herd :-)
This building being moveable is a great idea! I was thinking how handy it would be during high winds or rain storm to angle it for the best protection against the elements!
This was terrific. I had been wondering how your work with Bella had turned out. She is awesome and what beautiful milk! The Milky Whey is simple genius and I love your keeping her at pasture with her calf.
GREAT IDEA!! You should patent n copywrite it for future sales!! N excellent opportunity to teach your son about work ethics!! He was a GREAT helper!! ❤️👍🏻❤️
Your milking station is a very good idea. As well, the way you are teaching your kids is fantastic. They will grow up to be responsible adults. Good job.
Very clever and innovative, Simeon, and most importantly, Bella seems to be comfortable in your "Milky Whey" Also, it looks as though one of the heifers is interested in what's going on in there and may eventually be willing to either join Bella in supplying milk or take over for her when she gets too old for the job. :-D I love the way your children are learning from you. You are an excellent teacher and a great example to them of what sustainable, self-sufficient, ecological farming is all about.
That was a very nice video. Loved the children interaction with you. The cattle just love you so much. It's awesome to see how they trust you and just know you care for them as you do. That cream should make some nice ice cream for the children too. Yum. Great job on "Milky Whey" looks fantastic. May the Lord continue to bless you , your farm, and also all your family always. God bless.
Hey Simeon you have done a fine job getting the milk from Bella, you trained her well and now providing the mobile milking station will keep her and the other cattle at a low stress mode. Thanks for sharing.
Simeon, the Milky Whey is an awesome idea. Your homestead looks beautiful this time of year and your kids just keep growing. No matter what they end up doing with their lives, what they're learning now will be an awesome grounding for their future endeavors. Lucky kids!
wow simeon. you really deserve a lot o kudos! bella has become so used to you that you milk her and she comes into the mobile milking station. the calf is there. the heard comes to visit. and all is calm. a job well done. what an accomplishment!
Simeon, This is just brilliant all the way around, from using your Highland Cattle for milking, to building the mobile milking station to even the name!
As a guy that has milked a lot of cows by hand in my time, I think your milking station is great. We milked mainly with an electric milking machine. But there are times when you have to milk cows by hand. I’ve done a lot of both. We took our calves off the cow after about 24 hours and bottle fed them. So we would hand milk the cow and save the milk for our calves for the first day or so. And every now and then we would have a cow with mastitis. You can’t mix that with all the good milk. Love your channel!
Simeon , I am so pleased to see you and your family enjoying an additional farm resource. And so superior to what you can buy in a store. I've told you all along that you can milk your Highland cattle. And now you are proving it. A very good job on the Milky Whey ! It could also serve as a shade shelter. Or a wind shelter during the winter. You can now collect rain water /dew from the roof to make the Milky Whey into a watering station as well . If you milk one or two more cows , you can sell / give milk and or butter and cheese to your neighbors or use the excess milk to feed pigs. Pigs should already be getting the whey left over from butter and cheese making. With an extra feed source you could have a few more pigs. I'm thinking in terms of additional farm cash income. The reduction of the cost of Milky Whey over time is called amortization. At some point the cost reaches zero and then becomes profit. Good job Simeon !
really enjoy your efforts, the "Milky Whey" is cool, hopefully a big wind dont take it away, looking forward to more piggies, and milk processing. thanks for posting
Love the name of the milking station! " Milky Whey" How warm has it been in Sweden? it been chilly in Wisconsin; but today we are 72 degrees. Yay, and hoping it will stay. We have been at night time 37 to 40 at night.
I love the name of your newest creation! You should sell the plans for a little nit of money to help out with farm expenses and such. Make use of everything you can my friend. Peace, Love and Light!!!
I love this. I’m so glad milking Bella is working out. That volume of milk seems completely reasonable for a family to use daily. I think for a family milk cow, a jersey or Holstein just produces too much. What an all-purpose breed the Highland cattle are. And your milking station is great. Thanks for good ideas.
Very good excellent design on your milking Stanchion. The name is perfect. I'm so very pleased that you're having a good experience milking with the Highland cattle. What a wonderful experience in addition to your Homestead.
Gosh, I've gotten to the point where I look for your videos each and every day, and these past few days when you hadn't posted, I started to worry!! But I'm very relieved that everything is fine and dandy. Love the Milky Whey!
Ha Ha; this name "Milky Whey"! :) But yes a genius invention for sure. Good for you to train Bella! Very glad with the result! I've been watching your progress for quite some time now. You treated your cow very well. So nice to hear you saying "thank you" to her.

like how you made milky whey. Also really liked the idea if flood irrigation in the greenhouse. just the little time your son was filming you could see him getting better at it. awsome job young Sir.
Great video and the little calf is so cute. Interesting to see you milking a cow with those big horns. You may start a new industry. Good looking horse pulling your plow. I always enjoy your video but this one is superb.
Milky Whey ! I love the name hahahaha . It's great to see it go from blue print to the real thing , so happy for you all. It's good to see you back at the videos. We're still praying for your family and in-laws.
Love to see everything, your success with Bella & of course working with your son. Hope things will be even better coming days. GOD bless you & your family.
Now you need to train another one of your cows to the milking station. That way you could really have a lot more cheese, sour cream and butter. I do love the name.
This is great, really impressive! I rotate both the cows and goats and already have a mobile goat stanchion. I've been looking for ideas to make my cow stanchion mobile too.
This is wonderful! I have been following you journey now for 2 years and this is the best project yet! (Of course, I am biased because o really love Highland cows!) This will help more farmers I believe who need to rotate their cows for health but dont because they believe they must be in one place to milk! Thank you for filming thos! Go Bella!
The mobile milking station or "Milky Whey" is a genius invention 🤯
@Heather Smedley You said it just like i would have if i had the words in my mouth :)
He's good with the camera. Getting to be a big boy that can really help his dad. I love the name Milky Whey.
okay, I'm naieve with all this, but it seems bella is an intelligent cow. She was in your MILKY WHEY, before you started and seemed to kick the bucket to let you know she had to pee. steve griffiths @ Swedish Homestead. This is good info to pin for new milkers.
@@edieboudreau9637 perhaps he could do a video of it to help others?
🌠Milky Whey great name! Bella turned into good milking cow w/ your training👍👍 I've been watching your progress.
Suggestion: add a logo to the Milky Whey, with stars in the shape of a Highland head!
Perfect name - I think a lot of small farms and smallholders would be interested to have one of their own Milky Wheys! Super video and thank you for the update.
I love how she comes right in. And she’s actually teaching ,by example, how it works to the others.
Great job on the mobile milking station. It is the perfect solution to running your milking cow back to the barn every day for milking. BTW, you did a fantastic job training Bella into the head lock. I am really impressed.
Hard working man and even more a family man, God bless you

Terrific name for the milky "whey" and also for the welding spots !!
LOVE your videos! Bella is such a girl, thanks to your calm, patient way of training. Your children are beautiful!! Have a blessed week.

Bella looks great and her training has really paid off, she is such a good girl
I can’t believe the cow told you she had to pee! Your communication with you animals is so beautiful 😍
That's an extremely intelligent tool! Great job.

Great name! Glad to see Bella being a good girl for you.
Thinking outside the box always pays off - affordable, simple, very functional. Good job!

great name for the mobile milking station. I like that it is sooo much cleaner than a muddy stand.
The milky whey is exactly what I need. Our little Dexter does not like going into the barn so I hope she'll be ok being milked in this situation

Very clever name for this well thought out milking station. 👍
I love 05:53 when the video shows all the cows gathered around. They're so curious. Such beautiful cattle.
Great job on the Milky Whey. It was fun to watch it go from an idea to a sketch to reality.

What a super idea! I was surprised to find out my neighbor up here in Washington State is raising Highland cattle!
Now I know why we always called our skin milk blue milk. My grandmother came from Germany. Her family moved here in 1903 when she was 7 years old.
You have a beautiful family and a wonderful farm life

Great video, love milky whey what a great idea. Take your kids to work day is always fun!
Thank you for this video. Love your cows.
Nice name. Glad you had such good helpers. Proud of you kids.
