Beautiful song...now I know why Yolanda Adams wanted to remake it. The lyrics tells a wonderful story of how desperately God wants to keep us in His care. Think of it as His Highway Patrol motto: to protect and to serve...He "protect" us and we "serve" Him.
He is correct about the Hawkins Family Recording this song first, but the year they did it is incorrect. This recording was done in 1994 not 1997, and the CD was released in 1995, I should know this first hand since I was at the concert both nights they record this project. Also the person who posted this song is correct on another point, Kevin Bond was the original songwriter of the song, and I never heard Yolanda Adams give any mention of the family doing this before she recorded this in 1999.
@trayda1 Her name is Gheri Legrie McDonald. I'm not sure why she wasn't on this project. The one thing I do know about Shirley Miller is that she attends (if not a member of) Yvette Flunder's church. I don't what happened with this album.
Not exactly. Kevin Bond wrote the song. He wrote 3 songs for this project...and he also produced Yolanda's project. That's why the song is on both projects. People usually assign the song to the singer...but in all actuality, it's Kevin's song.
@@jasonwebber6148 you're probably right.. Bond is credited as both the writer and producer for Yolanda's version... And he even played piano, organ and probably bass guitar on the track.
@@iamanidiotbut9616 Yep. Kevin talks about it in interviews. It’s special how he put a new twist on it in Yolanda’s production. I actually like Yolanda’s version better. And yes, Kevin played everything on that track. I’m still laughing at the original comment that Yolanda stole the song. Lol! Kevin GAVE it to her to record, but he still gets those royalties. 👍🏽💯
No. Kevin Bond gave it to her. He wrote it. However when he gave it to Yolanda….he added a few things like playing keybass and more energy in the vamp. He hired Jeremy Haynes for drums.
Wow! Those 3 yesses at 6:46. Lynette is a POWERHOUSE!!!

Walter Hawkins
Yolanda didn’t want to re-make Kevin’s song. He took it to her so it might reach a broader audience…more of a business move.
Love, love, love this version! Had no idea the Hawkins Family sang it before Yolanda.
Had no idea they recorded this song-beautiful!
Wow I had no idea. Thank u for the knowledge. both versions are a blessing to my spirit

Feddie and Lynette Hawkins, amazing what a family!!!!!
Happy Birthday, Feddie!!!!
It is a very good album. You can also get it on amazon for $3.00 like I did (:
@trayda1 No they really are. Yvette said in an interview that she got married. I just read it earlier.
WOW!!!!!
OMG!! I didn't know they did this first!! Did she give them credit for this song?
I just went on Wikipedia and they're credited as the ones who did it originally
No, I don't think so. But Kevin Bond wrote it I believe. They just recorded it first. Of course her version turned out to be the popular one.
Kevin also produced her version
You are very welcome...
...and I had no idea, sorry about that!!!
-Ahem- I am a female. Therefore it should be SHE.
Yolanda Adams stole their song!!!
