2 min job. Thank you for the video, I thought it was tough and found a simple way. Step 1. Slowly pulled the door out of the hinge at the angle holding the dishwasher with my foot. The elastic harness was still attached to the door. Didn't remove any screws or wiring harness. 2.Placed the door flat on the floor. 3.Pulled out the old lower gasket as there no room to slide it sideways. 4.Cleaned the area and when putting it back first I had the lower end of the notch to fit above the door cover and snapped it inside Continued till the other slowly. Checked if it was installed correctly and everything looked good. 5.When I tried to put the door back the elastic spring got detached from one side. Was able to put it back and slowly installed the door back in the slot of the hinges. Took about 10 mins for the whole job. 6. Finally realized that we don't have to remove the door, just open the door flat, pop out the old one and pop in the new one. 😀 two minute job. Ran the dishwasher and no leaks.it. please make sure it locks in place within the slot.
Hey thank you for simplifying this gentleman's video. I am halfway on the video and it doesn't look simple the way he does it. I inspected the dishwasher before looking up videos and I also got the impression that the gasket can be replaced without removing de dishwasher or door. Thanks again.
Appreciated the effort put in for these instructions. I've bought parts from this site for many household appliances and used instructions from them. These however were a bit over done. You can remove the kick plate and bottom door screws without disconnecting the water, water return, or pulling the unit out in most cases. Then all you have to do is disconnect the cable and pull the door up a little and lay the door in the open position and replace the seal. I saved at least 10-15 minutes and the fear of a leaky connection when I reinstalled the water and waste lines.
Thank you. I followed your instructions after watching the video and it saved me a bunch of time. I was able to pull the door up slightly but I had to do the Allen wrench thing to get the door to slide back on. It didn't require removing the dishwasher though.
Just remove the two screws under the door, then slide the door up about an inch. Thiis allows enough clearance to slide old seal out and slide new seal in. Slide door back in place, replace screws and you're done. 10 minute job.
Great video and very helpful! Our model had only tiny differences from the one he showed, 95% the same. I found the electrical wire harness in a tough spot to disconnect, so I just popped off 1 of the clips. That gave me room to maneuver the lower edge of the door into a position that allowed for removal of the old seal. Ours was so weak from age that it tore loose, leaving the entire flange in its groove. I grabbed that with needle nose pliers and slid it out, that portion wasn't disintegrated and didn't fall apart. Allow plenty of time to clean all the disgusting crud that builds up in, under, and around the unit. Two tips I'd add to the great info covered in this video are: 1) Before you put the unit back into place, use duct tape to hold down the fiberglass insulation blanket in several spots, especially the rear edge. That keeps it in place and it won't snag or bunch up. 2) When you put back the kick plate, raise it up as high as the slots permit and don't tighten it too much. That'll make it easier to slide the unit into its final position. Then you can lie down and loosen the 2 bolts. The plate will drop to make contact with the floor, then you can secure it it place. That greatly reduces the gap for dust and other junk to get in under the dishwasher. It took us about 1.5 hours, because I also replaced the tub gasket, a very quick and simple process.
Great video thanks. Was actually able to do it without pulling the dishwasher out. Just enough room to finagle my hand under with two Allen wrenches to stick in the hinge holes. 15 minute job
Great video, procedure can be done easily without disconnecting power/water and only need to pull the machine out a couple inches to lock the hinge angle. Fixed my leaky dishwasher quickly and easily! Combination of lower door gasket and tub gasket cost only about $20 direct from GE with shipping.
The only thing needed to replace this gasket is the first step in this video. OPEN THE DOOR!!!! after that take the old gasket tongue out of the door groove by pushing inward against it with your fingers at the edge where the hard vinyl meets the soft seal-at the right or left side end of the gasket and pull downwards to peel it away from the door tongue once you get the old one off simply look at the old piece to see how to snap the new piece on just as easy. Now, you are done. Less than 30 seconds if you do it that way.
Great instructions! My Allen wrenches came out so it took me a few minutes to put the door back in but nothing big, used some big wrenches to push the hinges down a few times on each side and all good. 👍🏽 Thank you for the great video!
Don't disconnect the power and water. Take kick plate off and remove 2 screws at the bottom of door. Slide door panel up a couple inches and replace gasket. The 2 inches clearance gives you enough room to insert the allen wrenches underneath, then slide the door back down. Remove the allen wrenches, shut the door and replace the 2 screws on the bottom of the door. Shop vac all that nasty under the washer and reinstall the kick plate.
I have GE dishwasher model GDF520PGD4WW almost identical as the one in video only difference is mine has 2 plastic bolts about 3/4 in size inside front door panel at the bottom about 14" apart just wondering if these are their so you could lift panel to install gasket but I'm not sure if so would make life lot easier.
I’m on your site looking for the lower door gasket and I can’t find the part. My GE dishwasher is GDT580SMF5ES. I don’t see the gasket in the drawings. Thx
Replaced new door gasket on model WD08X21894 with new GE Gasket Beach Plastic still leaks not bad but leaks could it be a cheap gasket ? also replaced tub gasket feel free comment.
I am an appliance tech on here trying to figure out the same thing. I’ve done a handful of these now that I’ve just not been able to stop from leaking. After I change both gaskets it leaks from between the tub and the hinge on either corner. I was hoping to find that it was a well known problem and it’s just a defect but I haven’t come across any information yet
I'm having an issue with my GE dishwasher Model GSD3960L00SS , after I had changed the door seal on it, because it was leaking.. Now the door won't close all the way. You have to force the door closed in order to latch it close. I removed the seal and closed the door with no problem. I ordered the right seal. Please help me make my wife happy.
It sounds as if you could be having an issue with the seal if you removed it and it closed no problem. The part number that I am seeing that you would be needing per the model number that you have provided is showing to be AP3798079. Below is the link to the part so you can take a look at it. www.appliancepartspros.com/ge-dishwasher-door-gasket-wd08x10057-ap3798079.html
@@massages_for_world_peace8909 The fix is to level the dishwasher feet in the front or you adjust them on the bottom 2 corners have the dishwasher a little higher in front by a quarter to a half inch then it is in the back. That is what solved my problem after getting both the tub seal that goes on the tub itself and the door seal at the bottom that slides into its groove.
Make sure your dishwasher is 1/2 to 1/4 higher in front as compared to the rear. Do this with your leveling feet BEFORE sliding in the unit into its hole.
I just replaced mine and everything lines up with a notch at the top and where it goes around the corners at the bottom. But for some reason there's about a 6-inch gap between the ends of the gasket deadcenter under the door is this normal?

Yeah I was wondering why they completely disconnected the water and drainage from the DW, seems like over kill

Awesome advice Ed, it worked like a champ!
This comment should be pinned. Thanks!!
Yes...this worked just as well. Took about 10 mnis. Thanks!
Noted. Looking for a comment like this after watching the video. 😁
How did you reach the 2 door screws? Did you use an angled driver?

Thanks for the video. The old seal in my machine is secured to the door with 5 rivets... So much for serviceability!
Same with mine. We’re you able to get them off and replace it anyways?
Thanks for the straightforward instructions.
Thank for this, worked for me.
You're welcome!
This was helpful. Thanks.

Spaceeba Tavarish!
My dishwasher is still leaking after i put in a new gasket. It leaks from the bottom corners.
Did you ever find a fix? Ours is also leaking from bottom corners, where the bottom gasket should connect to the side ones.
Sane here. I replaced both gaskets and only leaks on one corner. No debris found to allow a water leak.???
