The older I get, the more I dislike Kevin Kline's character Harold. He listens to the music of the sixties, but he is the biggest sellout of them all.. Harold allows That arrogant cop to disrespect Meg and Sam. (Ok, Nick has it coming a little).

Meg is herself a sellout too, by her own admission. The movie is, to me, at least partly about the sellout of the entire boomer generation.

The older I get, the more I realize that they're all sellouts. "Selling out" is inevitable. The only character who didn't sell out was Alex, who committed suicide. If you want to see a more realistic portrayal of political resistance, go watch "Running on Empty". Strong political values have a high price, one that most people simply can't pay forever.
