I agree, however the movie’s main criticism of bad stigma of the illness DID does annoy me, but fictionally its a good film, and he’s of course great in it, scary as well - tho this is also a problem (showing DID people should be feared and are inherently dangerous).
How in the hell is _Split_ only at number 3? Sure, his performance in _Atonement_ might have earned him a Golden Globe nomination, but I feel _Split_ is the film that shows him at his most fearless, so to speak, which I think matters more than anything.

I can't believe I cried at the ending of Filth when he plays on paper such an unlikeable character. That shows James' ability as an actor to give the character range and depth.
I discovered him through that movie. And surprisingly admired his talent. After watching split and glass, never doubted him that he could not do it perfectly.

Hell yes, I agree with the top five in exactly the same order. Given what little time is spent with Robbie and Cecelia together, the intensity of their connection still sells absolutely. I think why McAvoy's characters are so charismatic is due to his ability to play them vulnerably, making his Robbie right on the dime, and every other character he plays in the top five utterly proves it.
He is currently on His Dark Materials on HBO/BBC but sadly he doesn't appear much but when he does I'm sure he is gonna kill it. Show is great so far even if he's only been in 1 episode, Ruth Wilson is carrying it for now.

As much as I loved him in "Atonement", "Split" is his best performance, followed very closely by "Filth", which made me put him on my Top 3 favourite actors (and that's not easy). Charles Xavier would have to be a much more impressive character to win from those other 2 performances.
McAvoy as Macbeth in BBC's Shakespeare retold was one of the most terrifying things I've ever witnessed, I'd say that deserves to be somewhere in the top ten even if it's a bit lesser known
His best performance is in Glass. He plays like 23 +1 characters. And he changes trough those personalitilies so well it’s questionable if he is acting or this is natural.
