  • Can selflessness be taught? This sailor has always heard the call to help others, but when he joined the Navy, he learned to let it seep into every corner of his life. Leaping into the sea to save people, while feeding the hungry on his days off, Jamison Ware is a life preserver.

Inspiring and immensely motivating! I respect that they took "so that others may live" way beyond just rescue swimming...

my son just completed this very grueling and demanding training, and is now an aviation rescue swimmer in the Navy. I'm very very proud. his identical twin brother works on A-10 jets in the air force. Proud Dad.

Huh, thought rescue swimmers were primarily Coast Guard, cool to see the Navy has it too which makes sense lol. What are the specifics on training for this job?

    • @WendelltheSongwriter

it is very difficult It is grueling and it is non stop for 18 or 19 months. My son spent 18 months or maybe more during high school preparing for this, swimming, running, working out every morning at the gym, he played football and was the captain of the lacrosse team, And was offered an opportunity to play lacrosse at High Point University, but instead he wanted to save lives. I think like this young man says it all here it depends entirely upon your level of commitment. Rescue swimmers in the Navy are deployed to both land and aircraft carrier stations, and they do a lot of training, which my son found really attractive.

All other NAC (Naval Air-crewman) in the Navy have their standard rating (I was AM2 Aviation Structural/Hydraulic Mechanic 2nd Class) and also a P-3 Orion FE (flight engineer). I suppose those SARS work hard enough to not need a second job in the Navy. Oooraahh!
