  • On a snowy April afternoon, the Ann Arbor Railroad was hard at work pulling certain stored cars from their saline industrial track. Here we catch them at Textile Road, State Street, and Pittsfield Junction as they pull tank cars from their now downgraded branch line.

Very welcome HeeCheeFox. These units were repaints for WATCO as well. They are currently under their 4th handlers now. Units undergo certain mechanical rebuilds before changing hands.

These 2 units are loaned out from WATCO owned and officed out of Kansas. There's a railroad here in Wisconsin that is run owned and operated here from WATCO in Milwaukee, WI.

Good report and production values. Are there other short lines going into Detroit, such as branch lines? For all the industry there in the past (and even today) that area has a limited rail history. Chicago has a much more diverse legacy and is currently running at high capacity. Strange that Detroit doesn't have one.

Thank you! There is a lot of switching an branch line railroading left in Detroit, much of it is taken care of by Conrail crews. In the city there is the Detroit Connecting railroad as well as the Delray Connecting Railroad.

Looks like there are two rail lines leading into Faurecia Interior Systems in Saline. Do you know when they stopped using this line, or when the last customer stopped using this line?

El Ectric They stopped serving in early 2015. Now they just store cars on the line. They actually added some this afternoon!

How do they get these south?? Do they back them onto the main, then head up to Osmer and do a run around?

them DPRX (Deep Rock) Tank Cars are band NEW from Trinity's Texas manufacturing plant! I kind of have doubts they were stored anywhere they started to appear in Tulsa, OK on BNSF in mass between 2014 and 2016 in East bound trains of 20 to 40 tank cars at a time every 2 or 3 days.

These cars have been in storage since oil shipping went down a handful of years ago. They are stored in Saline Michigan.

they must not have ever been used then. When I caught them they were New from the factory on there way to be delivered.

Hi, wonderful video... Is there a way to trace the lineage of a train locomotive? It appears as though these were UPs, and I was wondering if their ownership history could be viewed. Also, do you know the engine type? Thanks so much...

HeeCheeFox 2368 is a GP39-2, former MKT, and 1337 is a GP40-2, former SSW 7269, UP 1337, LETX 1337, but not sure what order the locomotive was owned in.

OMG... Encyclopedic reply... Thank-you for that... Btw, I LOVED your drone view of the engines over the river--I sent that to a bunch of people...

They were Union Pacific locos because each railroad has their own colors they are allowed to use. But to look up how a railroad company received another company's locos or rail cars that goes by company and the stenciled numbers on the equipment. It's like a secondary VIN number or license plate.

Adrian... Thank-you... I was wondering whether the engine nos. followed the machine--you put it better describing it as a type of VIN. I did perform a search of the loco # and RR, but the results did not jibe. I really appreciate your taking the time to reply.
