Is Solar heating / evaporation desalination a more viable option ? do we need to use VERY expensive FOREIGN osmosis desalination ?

      Why does foreign matter?

desalination through evaporation is too slow to provide water for millions of people : desal plants produce millions of gallons of water a day

All the efficiency gains made in water supply and use are negated by the increased demand in water driven by Australia's unsustainable population growth. More people need to fed, clothed and accommodated - all activities requiring water. Australia's policy wrt sustainable economic development including population and resource use is a failure.

I live near the Plant , well not that close but still in Shire . Should have been running when it was Installed . In fact recycled water is the Best water from humans , we just don't like to think about it.

400,000 immigrants in one year, wow that's a lot of water.

400,000 immigrants per year, every year for 5 years, that's 2,000,000 immigrants. In ten years that's 4,000,000 immigrants. Tell me, unrealone1, how many litres of water per day, per annum that is. Then tell me where that additional water is coming from.

Sustainability requires us to think beyond one year.

@@leanneblake4248 That's what you've been led to believe. Being a descendant of a migrant doesn't qualify you as being a migrant. Ethnic Australians of 6th generation are hardly what I'd consider a migrant. Individuals like yourself have the mindset similar to that of an ethnic cleanser. (ethnicity definition: the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition). You are denying Australians their ethnic identity.

Plain dumb to not use coal or nuclear power to run desalination plants. They are far cheaper options than grid-destabilising intermittent renewables.
