      Same but we need to keep our expectations in check. Big expectations can lead to disappointment. Low/ moderate expectations do the opposite.

      ​@@raskolnikov6443We haven't been shown even 5 minutes of gameplay for several months, so we can all either be mightily disappointed or positively surprised. But for now we know literally nothing, and it's likely to stay that way until the show. And if they don't show anything concrete at the show either, then I give up.

      @@Ambar42 Yeah. Marketing works. A lot of duds had great potential...a promise or a dream is just not enough.
      That's why we need to be very careful! These days I only trust hard evidence.
      I stay neutral until I see gameplay.

    I really loved the podcast! The sand idea is great!
    I'd just like to say that I hope the new quests aren't generic. Ex: Kill ten monsters and come back for a reward.
    The quests in Gothic specialize in NOT BEING GENERIC. How do they do that? WITH THE MAGIC OF MIKE HOGE
    1-MULTIPLE WAYS TO SOLVE A QUEST.
    2-DIFFERENT CONSEQUENCES ACCORDING TO THE PATH CHOSEN.
    Ex: In Gothic 2 to enter the city:
    1-Canthar can give you a document to enter the city, but later he will ask you to return the favor with another mission in which he is going to extort you.
    2-Greg asks you for farm clothes, to enter the city, if you sell him the clothes he will return the favor later.
    3-Lobart can sell you these clothes, he will reduce the price if you work for him, you can also steal them.
    4-If you are wearing farm clothes, Canthar is not going to give you the document, because he is looking for a former prisoner of the colony, to extort him later.
    5-Hilda (Lobart's wife) and Vino (farm worker) will ask you to buy items from Canthar, the game purposely tries to lead you to him.
    6-Without talking to anyone, just exploring. You can collect 100 gold coins if you take every last gold coin on the way to the city. (When exploring there is a hidden bag with 50 gold coins).
    7-If you don't have 100 gold coins you can sell some items, BUT, the only merchant in that area is Canthar.
    This network of connections between npcs is what makes gothic's quest system so complex, that's why I think they would have to take this base to write them. greetings!

    Now I'm waiting for more information about new quests and a better main storyline in the Remake. I hope for more quests with Milten, Diego, Gorn and Lester. I hope they get more involved in the main storyline.

      I hope that in the remake we will be shown how the heroes meet in a secret place. Because in the original Gothic the quest ended halfway through and then the heroes did not meet.

    Given that this episode mentioned forging different weapons i would like to see brewing potions and cooking since they were just some animations like stirring the broth and not an actual mechanism. Also cant wait for Sect camp and even a possible way to become a guru. Anyways good job and keep up the good work

      Мне больше интересно как будет выглядеть обновлённая модель Безымянного. В тизере строение его лица было очень похоже на Геральда из Ведьмака 3. Интересно, сохранят ли они его образ из оригинала с косичкой или всё таки полностью переработают?

I think a lot of people will continue to play the originals anyway as well as modifications will be created, a possible failed remake would not likely change much, it would leave more of a huge distaste... but of course I hope I'm wrong. By the way, you should take a harder look at the remake modder scene and decide to create and then release tools to create such masterpieces as on ZenGin. I am preparing for such an eventuality and already have a lot of ideas for modifications to Gothic Remake :)

      @@grgrgrgrrrrrr Of course Gothic was always great. It's a metaphor of America's elections. Gothic 1+2 was and is great but that was 20 years ago. And then Gohtic 3 left a lot of damage. And Gothic 4 the crash. Then 10 years nothing. And today Gothic is no longer a well-known game. Because when I mention Witcher, they know a lot what that is, in Gothic they don't know anymore. Gothic could have been just as big as witcher. It's nice when we play the original and keep it alive. But it would be nice if the remake was a success and brought the brand back to life. Because if that works, maybe a new Gothic or something like that will be created. Because the standards set by Gothic, hardly any game has reached it again. And now we have new studio only for gohtic that works intensively with Gothic and learns what makes Gothic so special. If they can't then who can? That's why I hope for the resurrection. That maybe something new is coming that comes close to the level of Gotic. That would be my dream.

      ​@@grgrgrgrrrrrr I mean, it is an old game and honestly it was lead to the wrong direction. It could have been bigger, then what it is now and we want to fix it!
      We appreciate our community and especially Modding Community. I don't know yet, if there is any Mod Support in the Remake, but I hope so.

    Niektórzy w internecie śmieją się, że gra jest robiona długo, że mało pokazują. A moim zdaniem to dobrze, oczekiwania graczy są wygórowane i chcą im sprostać. Niech wydadzą to nawet za 5 lat, ale niech to będzie powrót Bezimiennego "z wielkim hukiem", a nie tylko żerowanie na marce i tytule. Oryginał był trochę jak kombajn zbożowy Bizon - kwadratowy, awaryjny, ale i tak ludzie go kochają. Ciężko powtórzyć taki przypadkowy sukces.

      We started the full development only in 2021. We didn't keep almost anything from Playable Teaser, so we started the new project in Unreal Engine. 2+ years isn't really much =)

    I wonder if Free Mine, Quentin's camp, Tower of Xardas, Abonded Mine will have their own unique soundtrack. And whether Orc cemetery and Sleeper Temple will have a different soundtrack or both the same. In my opinion they should have separate and generally unique tracks to more unique places should be added. The music in Gothic perfectly matched the atmosphere of the game and built a unique experience and success in the reception of the game by the players. It's very , very nice that the Team made the best possible decision and bring back Kai, who also knows many other aspects of the original game development stages than just the soundtrack. Regards 👍💪

      There will be much more music in Remake compared to the Original. Back in times there was only 1 hour of music. In Remake Kai is going to expand it extremely.

      @@KaiRosenkranz Quentins camp should have little similar soundtrack to Don's Camp from first Risen but without swamp aspect. Like Don's group these people are strong , independent , slothful guys thinking about profits , ore and beer. Also they like a good fight. They should have a little arena for sword and boxing fights. Instead of swamp atmosphere they should be atmosphere of mountains + aspects which i mentioned here before. Best Regards 👍

    You've no idea how much i love Gothic theme. It started in colony and ended on Myrtana during 3 games. I love how it changed during all games. I like the new one, and i love this theme from podcast intro. I got fingers crossed for this remake, waited so many years.

    I like that there are more arena quests. Will there be weekly Arenafights in the evening or something like that, so that the player and other camp characters can also just be spectating? Will there bee a real betting system?
    I don't mind leaving the barrels in without any further functions, but making stealth a bit more useful is certanly interesting.
    I hope that with the UI from the teaser you'll still dropping the clean scifi esthetic.

    Sounds very promising, even better with time 💪💪 I hope that Gothic Remake will be outstanding and will turn out to be a hit. Gothic is a combination of realistically gloomy interpersonal relationships in a hostile world and a magical fantasy atmosphere with orcs, undead, demons and monsters. Fans will love to see the hidden references and jokes as they did in the fan supplement - Chronicles of Myrthana Archolos. Return to the well-known but improved Colony! It's going to be an unforgettable time like in the old beautiful years. Nothing connects Poles and Germans like Gothic :) I cordially greet the Authors and all members of the Gothic community.     I like the direction of the new soundtrack... it feels like a mix of gothic 1 and gothic 3 with some resemblance to Risen 1. This game should stay in core to the original but has to have a new feel too. Looking forward for first gameplay, keep working:!:)

      @@apostolprorok5187 Ну основу я бы всё же оставил без изменений .Но сократил бы количество городов до 3х штук по одному на каждую природную зону .А именно Варант,Нордмар и Мидланд. ну и так по мелочи несколько небольших поселений .Не нужно гигантизма как у Юбисофт , где огромные но пустые миры со скучными активностями.(имхо)Готика- это игра про живой но небольшой,ламповый мир с простыми но интересно прописанными заданиями.

    I really wanted shields and, most importantly, helmets. But if that means the remake will be that much faithful to the original, then I am all for it! I'm also curious about how they changed the lock picking, because the simple mechanic in the original worked very well imho. So far the Remake looks very good! 😍

      Iam happy that there wont be shields and helmets. Helmets especially. The one in teaser was terrible. And its bad its hide NPC face. I never liked that in games. We will see NPC faces, can compare with original, see their emotions etc. :)

      @@Tami9 I dont really care about shields but helmets... I mean I accept their decision, but from realistic or immersive perspective armor does nothing if you are not wearing a helmet. Its actualy very stupid. And you could see NPC faces, cause they could wear it only to battle OR there are open helmets or helmets with visor, so you could always see NPCs faces. I agree with you that the helmets in teaser were bad though.

      I for my part would like to have shields in Gothic, but not helmets. With certain armours like the paladin one it's fine, but for Gothic 1 it just goes against the design philosophy. It wouldn't fit. Shields on the other hand... I doubt they would look stupid on the npcs. Also skeleton warriors use shields in the game.

    I think having shields and helmets would be a good idea. They were in the alpha and were abandoned, probably because of the deadline. It would also be great to have a special skill for battle staffs and polearms in general, like they did in Risen, and a visible quiver with arrows/bolts. While these features may not have the highest priority, they contribute to the immersion of the game, making them valuable additions.

      Visible quiver could happen - that's the sort of immersion enhancement that I can imagine them adding.
      As for the shields, I'm personally happy they won't be added. I would very much like for the combat to be dynamic and full of movement. My big hope is for them to add some sort of Bloodborne-inspired dodge mechanic as a natural evolution of the backstep move (tapping down arrow key) from the original.

      I don't need or want helmets, because they don't fit the design approach of the original Gothic. However, shields would fit, in my opinion (isn't there one to be seen in the opening video and some on walls?). I'd find it cool if it was just an alternative to blocking with your weapon and not everyone has them, but only some guilds. I just remembered, skeleton warriors had shields.

      @@Ambar42 I'd consider adding helmets for at least some of the heavier armor like Ore Armor and Mercenary Heavy Armor, like it was done in Gothic 2. It's pretty weird for me to have good protection other than the head. Maybe we're just not used to seeing it, and if they came up with a good design, they could fit naturally into the game.

      @@timurkhodyrev yeah I know in Gothic 1-2 but not in Gothic 3 that game don't have chapters. And risen 1 also respawn enemies after chapters. I don't remember if risen 2 and 3 have that system also. And elex 1-2 I haven't played that much because I'm not a fan of the sci-fi medieval mix elex 1-2 have. But what I mean with respawn is beside chapters like games like Skyrim,the Witcher 3 and more RPGs. Let's say When you kill all morsters in a cave and then you sleep x numbers of days and Go back to the cave and some Bandit's have moved in 🤷🏼‍♂️ it makes the game more alive. I have only played gothic 1-2 a few times many years back that gothic game I also is going back to is gothic 3 I have played it maybe 20 times now 😅 but I have just started gothic 2 again. And gothic 1 and I'm waiting for the remake to come out so I can played

    It is a long standing tradition to hide inside of a barrel the first time you visit the old camp during every playthrough 😄. At least keep lighting of the standing camp torches with a torch in the game pls :)

    One thing I would really like to know, is whether or not the main character is going to be as chatty as he was in the demo. Personally, I liked how quiet the original Gothic character was, and really hope they cut down on how chatty he is.

      Of course he will not be like in the playable teaser. They listened to everything else the fans criticised, why should they make an exception with such an important thing? It will most likely be the same dialogues for most quests from the original Gothic, so it's pretty safe the main character stays an introvert.

    Nice episode. I liked to hear about the new features and design choices.
    But while my hopes are high for the remake, I want to say that I also hope that you still iterate with the things you put out. For example with the monsters you released renders for. They do have cool designs, but I hope they aren't "done, next" but you still listen to what the community has to say about them and keep on improving them. For example many, including me, think that the new bloodfly - no matter how cool it looks - really shouldn't have that reptilian mouth.
    And to Kai, if you read this: All in all I love the remastered and the new tracks, but I noticed that there are sometimes shifts from quiet to loud tones that appear too sudden. And sometimes there is just silence between two tones where a "Klangteppich" maybe would be better. Made it sound a bit more artificial than your original soundtrack, in my opinion. So maybe there are still some things to improve on the music, as well, but of course that might just be me (a total amateur).

      I agree, and as for the music, it is as always very good, but the night music from the Old Camp seem to be merged together from different tracks. Or maybe it's a few tracks from different places like the Outer Ring and the Old Castle?

      Hi Ambar, thank you for your feedback. I have decided to introduce a bit more "dynamic range" into the remade music, because I feel like it fits the new game better. All other aspects have an increased dynamic range as well. Higher contrast, more variation in visual detail, more dynamic lighting, ... all this makes the game feel less smoothed out and a little edgier compared to the OG. I have intentionally worked this aspect into the soundtrack as well. As for the moments of silence: There were some of those in the original music, as well. Also, when combined with the soundscape (wind, night wildlife, fire crackling, etc.) it never really drops to silence. There's always something audible going on, even in the spaces "between notes".

    I'm not sure if there is any other country like Poland, where Gothic is still so alive, even after those 20 years. But I'm sure, that phenonenom is possibile thanks to great Polish localization, and according to that I hope, that Polish version will be at least half as good as orginal (some of Polish actors that given their voices to Gothic, are already dead 😢)

      I, as a representative of the CIS countries, will say that the Russian voiceover is just as charismatic and soulful. I won't say that foreign voiceovers are worse, but it's quite difficult for me to perceive other voiceovers than the Russian one - it's so successful. But, unfortunately, most likely in the remake will be a different dubbing, because some dubbing actors are dead, and some are no longer in demand :(

    Wie immer ein super sowie vor allem spannender Podcast und dann auch noch diese Musikuntermalung 😍
    Zwei Anmerkungen habe ich:
    1. Vielleicht habe ich das nicht richtig verstanden, aber die Gameplaymechanik des Kletterns gibt es bereits im original Gothic. Es gibt ja sogar klar definierte Kletterstellen, um an besondere Orte zu gelangen. Da wäre schon allein direkt bei der Verlassenen Mine die Kletterpassage, um auf das Plateau zu gelangen oder aber die hohe Felsformation, um auf den Berg des Alten Kastells zu kommen. "Freies Klettern" war also schon immer Bestandteil von Gothic 😉
    2. Die Fässer in Gothic: Ja, im Original hatten diese keinerlei Sinn/Nutzen, allerdings sehr wohl in ihrer ursprünglichen Implementierung. In Gothic sollte es wie ihr sicher wisst eine Diebesgilde geben. Die Fässer sollten dabei eine Möglichkeit bieten sich nachts vor patrouillierenden Wachen zu verstecken.
    Ein solches Fass gibt es auch noch in der Alten Mine. Ursprünglich war die Alte Mine ja die Freie Mine und daher sollte man sich als Spieler dort sicher vor den Gardisten verstecken können als diese die Mine überfallen.
    Das hat alles auch noch viel mit dem damals geplanten Klassendesign zutun. Die vier Klassen Kämpfer, Dieb/Attentäter, Magier und Psioniker sollten sich sehr unterschiedlich spielen und da kommt z.B. einem nahkampfschwachem Dieb so ein Fass zum verstecken sehr recht 😁
    Javier sagt aber ja auch, dass die Fässer momentan einfach nicht "erste Priorität sind". Ich habe also noch die Hoffnung, dass wir die guten alten Fässer dann im Remake endlich sinnvoll nutzen können 🙂

    Happy to hear you recording things from the scratch because voice acting quality was questionable in some parts of the game. At some areas too over the top. Now I have some fanatics from the swamp camp in my mind. As for the colours, as long as it won't look like some mad max reality, it should be good. People tend to forget about that, but besides all the misery around, the colony was full of really scenic and diverse places. There was hidden beauty in all this misery and melancholy. It just should not be over stylized. Perhaps I'm in a large minority, but I like Gothic graphics. Let me explain. Sure, textures generally could be better, but I like that unlike Morrowind this game did not try to have hyperrealistic graphics for its time, and it looked a bit stylized. Such games are getting visually older much slower. I like the idea of increasing the verticality of the game. I had no opportunity to experience it myself, but I heard Elex is interesting in that regard. Sure. Different universe and rules, but I think here perhaps magic in Gothic would come in handy here. Would like you guys to talk more about how you adjust Gothic to present day. There are surely some great things that are still holding up but only recreating what made the original game is not enough. Some stuff should be modernized or rebuilt from the scratch. Apart from the voice acting and getting into mechanics, as an example I don't think it should be possible right away to forge a weapon. Rather it should be a skill we can learn lets say in exchange for a few favours for the smith as an example. This is the idea that appeared in the original that could be increased for more characters in the remake. Like when on your way to the Old Camp after starting a game, you meet some dudes from The New Camp, and they can teach you some basis of hunting in exchange for a beer. Sure. It was more about tactics, our approach to certain beasts (It was a form of organic/immersive tutorial) but I think learning such basic skills like forging some basic weapon or cooking better meals could be dealt with like that. Some general skills not connected with certain classes. So alchemy would not fit here I think. Maybe we could see how some certain inhabitants of the colony are using us to deal with their dirty business. Or maybe you have different idea for it. I think it would be a cool area to expand, but maybe with some more complex tasks than just handing over a beer. Sure. It may be fine at the beginning, but later on these tasks should be more complex, adequately to usefulness of certain skill the player gains for them. As for the inspirations, I think there are some cool things in From Software games that would fit into the Gothic experience. Of course, we don't want Gothic to just become another Souls-like or what would be worse Souls-lite. You know. These games that are mindlessly taking inspirations out of From Software games without thinking if they actually fit to their game. But I think Gothic had something in common with souls games, like when the player seeks something in the inventory, but the game does not pause, so he or she could basically be attacked at any moment during the process. Or this general melancholic vibe especially present in the first Gothic. The most Gothic experience I had outside of Gothic or Piranha Bytes games in general was in Dark Souls, Kingdom Come: Deliverance and in some parts of The Witcher trilogy. I definitely need a skill to parry and counter-attack in Gothic Remake and not just block. Also, I wonder how you want to preserve this minimalism in terms of inventory whilst simultaneously increasing intuitive feel of it. In the original we often had to search for something in our equipment for quite a long time. I know some people who abandoned the original game because the UI and specifically the inventory was not intuitive to them. Another thing that should be improved is trading. How do you plan to approach this? Will barter system be preserved, or maybe you don't think it would make sense in the remake. Maybe we are just sticking to selling or buying items for the colony currency. Also I think certain items should be possible to be sold only to a certain merchant. It won't make sense if you sell an amount of x axes to Snaf. By the way, perhaps Snaf could actually have his own small, shabby cantina instead of cooking in the open air. Ehh digressions. Anyway I get that the game is supposed to reach a broader audience, so some tutorials probably will be necessary, but one of cool things about the originals was that it taught its players everything in an organic/immersive way. Will there be some mode for core players marked as an intended Gothic experience (described for newcomers what actually intended Gothic experience means), and another with more tutorials regarding for example UI management, or you want to deal with it by other means? If so, what are these means? I have even more questions for future podcasts. Will you guys include some ideas that never made it to the first game due to lack of time/resources? If so I would like you to talks about these? Maybe even some things that were to appear in the DLC to the game that was never released and instead Gothic II was developed and released? How you want to make certain classes unique besides set of skills. It would be really cool if being a part of certain class or camp meant some quest available only when you are part of this class/camp. I hope also to get some answers about story/lore in the upcoming narrative podcast you guys mentioned. I get that most people have this nostalgia for the old camp, but I'd like to hear more about other factions. To me, one of the main themes of Gothic plot is changing the status quo. Ore barons in the Old Camp are comfortable with the situation as it is, and they and other Old Camp Inhabitants present themselves as these cool guys, whilst there is a lot of shady stuff underneath. That's why the Old Camp is seemingly so appealing to many people, not only in how it is presented to you by other characters but also by its general atmosphere.Then there are people from swamp camp. Sleeper worshippers, but it is suggested that most of the people joined this camp for the weed (not sure how "bagienne ziele" is translated in English). These people surrendered themselves to the apathy caused by being in this massive prison. They did not want to be utilized by Ore barons in mines or getting through some crap in the New Camp to actually influence something, so they basically just changed Ore barons for gurus. And there is my favourite camp in the old game. The New Camp. This of course is also a shady faction, but they at least try to change the status quo, even if mostly they don't actually know what they are doing, but they at least are trying to do something. We have some interesting ideological conflict happening there, and perhaps some other new faction will have another point of view and the situation. And there is also Xardas playing his own game in the shadows. And the orcs. I really want Orcs to be expanded to see more of their culture. I don't want them to be just the mindless enemies. At the end I wish to apologize for all the digressions, but I hope those did not harm the general message of my comment too badly and everything is clear. Sorry. One last thing. Is there a possibility to get to know some more background of the colony from perspective of other character? Maybe in some DLC or standalone spin off assuming the remake will be financially satisfying for the publisher? Also what does that mean that the arena is the only way for the colony inhabitants to have fun? What about the weed xD? Already anticipating for another episode of the podcast.

    Ich mochte die Musik, aber ich denke, dass diese Art von Musik für eine sehr ruhige Atmosphäre sorgt. Die Musik erinnerte mich an die Musik aus Risen. Aber dort passte sie zu einer Hafenstadt, aber hier sind es immer noch Kriminelle unter einer elektrischen Kuppel, umgeben von Monstern. Ich will damit nicht sagen, dass es keine ruhige Musik geben sollte, aber es sollte weniger davon geben als gruselige Musik, besonders nachts. Ich meine, als Kind habe ich mich nachts im alten Lager gegruselt, besonders zu Beginn des Spiels.

      It's some good and some bad. I like sticking to the original when it comes to the shields and helmets. I really dislike making fauna fight in the arena. It really undermines these vicious creatures that used to be completely untamed and too dangerous to handle in the original for some cheap Roman imagery and generic fighting quests. Overall, it's mixed, I think.

    What demonic sacrifise do we have to make to get a full version of the old camp theme so we can listen to it at work? I mean, we havent had a single screenshot or trailer for so long. We kind of deserve it, no?

      Думаю процесс сделан уже на 60-70%. Скорее всего сейчас они доводят дизайн до идеала. Лучше набраться терпения и подождать, чем получить сырой и недоработанный продукт.

    Wow die Musik ist echt klasse weiter so Kai, ich hoffe so sehr das dieses Spiel ein großer Erfolg wird. Denn ein Gothic 2 remake von euch wäre ein absoluter Traum

      Vielen lieben Dank. Freut mich sehr, dass dir die Musik gefällt. Ich träume auch schon heimlich von einem Gothic 2 Remake, aber shhhh, erst mal abwarten und alle Energie und Herzblut in das Gothic Remake stecken. 😉

    Since you mentioned to not guide the player with an ingame tutorial: how about a separate tutorial level that can be started before the game, (some neutral area) that contains basic interactions and combat and other mechanics. This way players can choose to do it / skip it, and noone is forced to get tutorial popups inside the game itself. Also its a good setting to adjust the graphical settings before the game.

    About In Extremo:
    Could not just ask the Band about using 'Herr Mannelig' Track in Gothic Remake
    and adding the band members as archetypes again? It's just using the old version of the song with their permission.

      From what I have heard the band does not hold the rights to their own song, in this case. The label does. But it's an old folk song, so the text is free to use and they could just remaster it, so I don't really get the issue.
      But as it seems they try to still get it in the game. Let's hope it will work out.

      The band should want it too! And Herr Mannelig is a folk song. No one posses the rights on it.
