Since many years we have kestrels nesting in the roof structure of our aircraft hangar in Germany. Every year they have babies. Once management tried to scare them away because of their droppings (a falconeer came with a tame eagle), but it was discovered that the kestrels keep mice and rats out of our hangar, therefore they are now tolerated. Sometimes we have fledgelings, which get lost on their first flight and end up on the busy hangar floor. I had to catch them a few times (I would put them in a quiet place, where the parents could see them and I would tell my colleagues to stay away from this place. Eventually the bird would manage to fly back to the nest). But the beak and the claws are really sharp. i would get a pair of heavy duty leather gloves from the tool crib before trying to catch the bird.
Well done!! I love such rescues. They give everyone a real sense of satisfaction. (no worries about searching for the proper name. That happens now and then to everyone. 😎). thanks so much for all of your dedicated work. I am sure the kestrel would thank you, too!
oh man, seeing that spunky little bird flip on its back so it could use its claws sure brings back childhood memories. What a very spunky, kestrel thing to do. (I found a note-quite-fledgling one in my neighborhood once. it landed in a hot spot for cats, dogs and cruel children and all its siblings were already dead and its tree marked for removal. so i brought it home and called the local rescue. imagine a little 11 year old riding home on a bike one handed with an angry bird.)
Why would 4 people downvote??? That was a PERFECT rescue! I wouldn't be able to tell the difference as we don't have ANY of those here but I totally gigglesnorted as the captions kept repeating the proper species while Simon kept saying the wrong ones. 😂😂😂
Right ! In the US, we call our kestrels sparrow hawks. I noticed what they call sparrow hawks in the UK look like small goshawks to me with the grey and white striping.
A “sparrowhawk” is a kestrel (a small falcon) in North America, however in my European bird book a “sparrowhawk” is a type of accipiter which we call a Cooper’s hawk or “chicken hawk.”
The homeowner wasn't sure how long the bird had been in the bin as she uses that part of her garden rarely. However, the Kestrel was only a little thin so it could only have been for a few days.
So, that's how those are named! Sparrow hawks, such beautiful birds. I used to worked in another town and I remember seen them dead in the freeway, it would bother me so much.
What a beauty sparrow hawk? Oops 🤔 Can't remember the other one you said now😄 Kestrel, oh it's a kestrel 😉😊 I wouldn't have had a clue either Simon🙄All I know is that it's a beautiful creation of God😍
Wildlife Aid Lol, that's good to hear! I think it must be because i binge watched all your older videos so now that I've seen every single one, I'm always craving more lol I love you guys!!
The love that I have for your channel and you guys...! If I will visit one day GB or come to leave there I will come and see you or be a volunteer. Thank you for the beautiful images that will stay to our minds forever and congrats again you are the best Simon and gang. :) Btw my dearest mom God bless her soul and RIP visited GB, 70s Liverpool and Manchester are you close to these cities.?
Thank you for your kind words! If you do come and live in the UK it would be great to have you as a volunteer! We are based in the south east of England - Surrey, just outside of London.
@@wildlifeaid don't mention it pal.! :) Yeah thanks I would love to be a volunteer one day. One of my dreams is to visit England holidays and stuff and I love London and England of course so if I can not stay in England i would love again when i visit to see you guys and Simon of course. :) When I would manage to visit London I will come to Surrey for sure and btw such a beautiful place full of life and lovely animals. :)
Bloody hell, for yrs I thought I was drinking Sparrow Hawk or Buzzard, after all this time, it was kestrel, no wonder the guys at the off licence used to look at me funny.
This goes into great depth about bird of prey taxonomy and classification. Its not English thats confusing but rather how we classify animal species based on who is related to who and which family they belong. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_of_prey
@DetectiveRJ They also decided to make Kestrel die way earlier than intended in the show too, but that's because the third season was like three different books mashed together horribly
@DetectiveRJ Kestrel in the books actually died of old age in the book The Siege of White Deer Park that season 3 is roughly based on except it mixes aspects of Battle for the Park as well, it mixes the final two books together, so it is unconfirmed but very likely she died of old age
Hahaha... you're getting some grief on this one... but truly a beautiful swan rescue. Thanks for sharing.
I wish it was a swan rescue, I could watch those all day long.
Haha
That’s not a swan, it’s clearly a macaw. 🙄🤣😉
Good job saving the goose, Simon!
Not a goose, it's a kestrel :)
@@peachjubilee ahh nearly the same
That bird looks so shocked and offended 😂
I suppose they too got to keep up with the social climate of the ignorant.
Of course it got offended! Simon just assumed its species! For all we know it could have identified as a hawk.
I LOVE that about birds of prey. They always have that look like they're incredulous that they even DARE!
It was rather angry, but I'm sure we all would be if we had spent a couple of days trapped in darkness with no food
@@madman2u Keep your stupid politics off this channel
Nice job releasing that peregrine falcon ;-)
He's clearly a lorikeet.
I thought it was a swallow.
Zebra finch
@@budsio An loaden or unloaden swallow?
Ummm.. its a parrot?

1:40 Oh Simon, we are all entitled to having an "off day" now and then. BTW nice squirrel rescue! 😆
"It's still a kestrel." Oh, that British humour...lol
Oh, I agree with you Simon, what a lovely old house!
what a gorgeous duck 😉
"My brain isn't connected to my mouth" Simon being a whole mood
Truth!
If you like our videos!? Simon I bloody love them, please make many more, I can’t wait for them!
We're glad you like them! :)
At least this deer was not stuck in a fence like they usually are.
It's kinda funny how in the US we have a bird called the American kestrel, which is ALSO called a sparrowhawk
I was just thinking that😂
No way , that's juvenile Imperial Eagle, I am sure.
Very interesting fact :)
I'm sure that pteradactyl was properly grateful.
A fabulous rescue Simon and good to see you get as confused as I do re names .Terrific release .even the geese were thrilled *
Thanks Helena!
*Goose roars*
Me: oh how nice they have horses.
Simon: Hello Goose!
Me: WHAT?????
TheLonelyTurkey you should hear a a ruffed grouse drumming. It literally sounds like a motorcycle trying to start.
Haha great response! :D The geese just wanted to be apart of the video

Good on you, Valerie Gonzales! Job well done!
Best giraffe rescue yet.
Another job well done. Thank you, Simon and crew.
Well, at least you didn't think it was an owl. :)
I think we all would have been a little concerned if he had though this was an owl! :D

Love this little rescue story
“My brain is not connected to my mouth”.
I love that statement.
My brain is connected to my stomach. When I’m hungry I get upset.

No but seriously mate, Barry Hines is practically thrashing in his grave with that mis-ID.
It is a Kestrel
Cool ❤️❤️❤️
Kestrel rescue/rehab/release
nice!
But it doesn't look like the kestrel from Farthing Wood 🤔 lol
Kestral had the common male coloration, likely a female

Has anyone else here played wingspan yet?
Its a kestrel
Yay I got something right Simon got wrong
Birb is :V
Would have loved to see treatment
As the kestrel was uninjured, it didn't require any medication. We simply popped it in an enclosure to get a good few meals inside of it! :)
