After listening to kol cap, i simply asked myself can shanks himself take dp unguarded? And the answer was no, bot even luffy can (I don't know of g5) the only characters capable of taking it are kaido and bm

I'll say most likely any individual attack kid took throughout that arc is prob lower than Divine Departure but not all combined bcz not all or most of them happened with him having his guard down.

If you put Zoro in the exact position as Kid he doesn't get one-shot. Firstly, Zoro doesn't have magnetic powers so he doesn't pull in the ships closer to give Shanks closer footing, like with Kid. Secondly, Zoro doesn't have a big lump of immobile metal strapped to his arm. If Zoro is able to react so fast that he can get infront off Conquest of the Sea before the rest of the Supernova can even think what to do and before Law could even think about teleporting with Room Shambles, then I think Zoro can raise up his arms a bit in order to block Shanks attack with his own Conquerors Haki infused swords. And if Zoro could momentarily block a double Yonko attack, end up with 30 broken bones and still get up, go into Ashura, clash with Kaido and give him a permanent scar, then he definitely has enough endurance after he gets blown back and injured by Divine Departure to continue fighting. But of course Shanks still wins at this point.

Also, I'd argue Zoro would handle a Divine Departure better then Kid would, Zoro rarely goes down immediately even after taking major damage, his tanking abilties are top tier.

We've never seen zoro get knocked out from one attack, It's out of character. Not to mention Kidds rail gun explosion played apart, unless you want to say divine departure causes combustion, and Kidd has not taken the same level of damage as zoro and kept it pushing. You'd have to be saying that Divine departure, a single yonko attack, is stronger than a combined haki infused attack from BIg Mom and Kaido. Not to mention Zoro has greater mental fortitude. When Kidd was getting hit by hawkins/killer kidd was fading in and out of consciousness. But when zoro took oceans sovereignty he stayed conscious, went on to cut up prometheus, clash with kaido, and then blitz/scar him. If you wanna say zoro only held out for 3-8 seconds, then how long did kidd get hit by divine departure? If you wanna say zoro blocked, zoros swords would have to still absorb the shock. Also shanks had to hit through killer and the rail gun. It's not really a competition really.
Zoro would block it and still get damaged, but he would still be in good enough health to keep fighting until he eventually loses. It would be like what Roger did to (weaker) Oden in the past, except Zoro would be ready to block. Zoro's swords would at least be able to absorb 50% to 60% of the shock since he has advanced armament and advanced conquerers haki coating. (even with Enma not fully mastered). Zoro might even do better than that when you remember Oden never used visible haki to block Roger. (at least for sure not conquerers)

Real. The difference in strength between Shanks and Blackbeard as well as between Kidd and Law isn't suppose to be big. Why fights went differently imo, was because of battle iq, Kidd for some reason decided to start changing up Damn Punk, when already came +-close to the ships, closer then he needs to... why, it's a laser, he can shot it kilometers away, yet he made a mistake, and Shanks didn't fk around to use it and cut him as well as exploded Kidds own gun in his face. Okay, but would Zoro allow himself to be one shotted by Shanks? F*ck No! Zoro would detect him coming because his observation haki is very good despite not having future sight. He dodged or detected and blocked attacks in his sleep on 2 seperate occasions. He also kept up with King with his very fast downward aierial attacks with his pterodactyl fruit. Rob Lucci was a very fast awakened leopard. You can possibly include an offscreen short encounter with V nusjuro in there. Point is he would detect it and block with 3 swords all coated with haki and conquerers. Is he still getting sent back? F*ck yeah! He's still getting sent into that pole, but he can still fight afterwards until eventually losing to Shanks who's still way stronger. Obviously any full human without any non human DNA or physical enhancements, is gonna get one shot by Shanks if you are not blocking or using haki or a devil fruit or any techiques. You are just a One Piece human with muscles at that point. I really hate this topic because that should be obvious. Now Zoro blocking Shanks is a better one that would happen.

Kidd and Law won their fight in Wano almost purely running on devil fruit power from what we were visually shown, but Luffy purposely fought in base form for as long as possible to grow his haki so I don't think Shanks 1 shots him

He didn't deflect anything. If he deflected it meaningfully, Law wouldn't have needed to teleport them all away. Unless you mean he changed the trajectory slightly, which is unclear but also irrelevant because he still took major damage in that short time

Just honestly think about it for a second. Sanji got a giant blade swing: 1. To the face 2. From the Sanji equivalent of Kaido's crew 3. WAS NOT using haki 4. That did NOTHING to him other than taking out an "ouch" from him 5. A punch from the strongest form of humans (Vegapunk's words), which is ALSO a Gyojin (which are way stronger than normal humans) and has ALSO Karate's skills... a punch from all this to the face did ABSOLUTELY nothing to Sanji. So yes, if you consider all this and think of a germa-activated Sanji, + haki guarded, he may get injured but not be near dead after getting divine-departured from Shanks. I just actually looks at things fairly. I'm not a Shanks, Sanji, or Zoro fan boy.

@gustavo9758 you forgot it was a giant blade swing from someone who doesn't use swords. His exoskeleton hasn't shown anything besides that and tanking a reg punch from a seraphim. He's not tanked haki attacks, named attacks or anything. You could say he can regen, but it's hard to regen when your torso is 10ft away from your legs
So if you are comparing the Divine departure to so other Yonkos top 5 to top 2 move sets. 1) Do u believe Big mom has a moveset now that she didn’t use against them that could have one shorted kid if Oda wasn’t holding her back? 2.) Was that move shanks used one of his best moves like top 5 to top 2? great topic! i have some thoughts on the scaling: using durability to draw a comparison between kid and zoro is a good idea! it’s clear that big mom and kaido’s combined attack scales above any attack the pair could do individually, it’s a tag team attack. this makes any statements about kid’s durability being above zoro’s pretty unreasonable. beyond that, it’s impossible to directly scale divine departure to any big mom or kaido attack, because there aren’t any direct lines to draw: all we know is that divine departure knocked kid out, putting it above any attack he took during the raid. with the story’s context in mind, these are the reasonable conclusions we can make: zoro is more durable than kid, it’s in character for zoro to take strong attacks and not only stay conscious but continue to fight, and we don’t know how strong divine departure is. thus, the only thing we can confidently say is that there’s a decent possibility that zoro isn’t getting one shot. this is without bringing observation haki (which kid never displays) or asura (damaged kaido who is portrayed by the story to at least be relative to shanks) into the conversation.

You can make the argument that the reason kid look like he was going to die was because he was just passing out from Concord hockey infused abilities which tend to have the ability to knock a person out not that it dealt more damage and that damage caused him to get knocked out but it's more of a status debuff than anything
To be fair Garp could 1 shot Shanks and KoL would still find a way to say that Shanks used his God-Haki too empower Garp's attack so it made him stronger. This guy always downplays characters to hype the ones he likes. I'm surprised he didn't say Emeth used Shanks Haki instead of Joyboy.
I can believe these characters grow after every fight, but the residual damage is not completely gone. Even the Straw Hats were hammered by the war on Onigashima, once they got into their next altercation someone like York with the Seraphim was a struggle. Shanks did not underestimate wounded dogs, yet they were wounded looking to fight. Two pirate crews faced the same lesson you don't have back up and gaining one new skill is not enough to capitalize on against a Yonko. The Straw Hats capitalized on having back up a sufficient amount of it can save you, gear 5 was not defeating the Elders. It went unsaid but Shanks is doing Devine Departure with one arm everyone is unleashing it with two, his step in is better.
Mihawk isn't interested in getting the one piece. He recently actively demonstrated this when he was pissed that buggy announced to his crew that he's going to get the one piece and become pirate king. Wouldn't make narrative sense for him to be there. Zoro in the other hand is part of Luffy's crew. Like the rest of the strawhats, he'll play an active role in getting Luffy to laugh take but ultimately it's Luffy's goal. Again, narrative is what's happening there.

3:52 take isnt correct. There was literally time in between and blocking involved with Kidd and his battles on Onigashima. Id say it is more accurate that Divine Departure was stronger than any singular hit he received while not on guard.

Remember guys that in the entire series Shanks has shown his actual stats. He has like 2 major power feats (vs greenbull and kid) but even his poor endurance feats. A normal sea king took his arm off, he was injured by a random Blackbeard with no devil fruit, and in the movie even random people managed to injure him. So yeah, if we compare the yonkos, big mom and kaido have waaay more endurance than Shanks, but Shanks has more haki power, simple as that. I bet that even a radical beam from franky, if it hits, would defeat or heavily injure Shanks. All the feats are set in stone, and this is what we've seen so far: Amazing power, poor durability.
So Zoro can stop 2 Yonko attacks at the same time, resulting in him being injured but not being NEAR the sate Kid was after getting clapped by Shanks. Somehow tho, he cannot take 1 other Yonko attack because he would be wiped out... Think a bit before writing a comment.

If it’s wasn’t for law Zoro would’ve been fricking EVAPORATED by their combined attack Zoro while trying to stop the attack nearly died and got all of his bones broken in seconds
I wouldn't assume that Shanks' divine departure equals all the damage he took in Wano. First up, most high level One Piece characters recover extremely quick from damage and are tanks in terms of endurance. The damage needed to put them down for good, when dispersed, is way higher than the damage needed to knock them out in one fell swoop. Kidd was fighting for a long time, so he had some time to recoup in between some of the bouts. Further on, an example, you have a knock out resistance of 70, and this means you can take any 70 potency attack without being knocked out. All the individual attacks used on Kidd in Wano are below 70 potency, therefore he doesn't get knocked out. Divine Departure is above 70 potency, so Kidd gets knocked out. Distributed damage is not the same as concentrated damage, particularly when it comes to the likelihood of knocking someone out.
I don't know why you're treating it like these characters have HP bars. They take attacks, and if it wrecks their body enough and get past their defenses, they get injured/die. None of the attack Kid took in Wano were enough to take him down, also Kid was backed up by other stronger characters like Luffy and Law who aided him in avoiding taking the full brunt of the damage. Kid got carried. He hasn't exactly been very successful in the New World without help. Zoro on the other hand throughout the whole series has been shown to be a monster tank when it comes to taking injuries; Mihawk's slash, taking Luffy's pain from Kuma, and the Kaido Big Mom combo attack all being great examples. Zoro is also a swordsman, and would be more proficient against facing off against a sword attack head on. There's no way we'd be seeing Zoro go down on the first attack. Edit: Also its weird that this video follows the idea that the comparison is that Zoro would have to get hit by the Divine Departure. Kid was unskilled enough that he couldn't block/dodge it. I don't think Zoro would be that unskilled.

Attacks are only calculated by hp in games... that's why a boxer can get knocked out from one punch...then go on later to take several punches in another fight against that same opponent...things like timing and defense influence potency of attacks...and in the case of fiction plot

It's very frustrating to me that there are so many people that seem to think that Shanks is Roger when Oda has spent so much time narratively showing us that it's Luffy. Oda has spent nearly two decades setting up threads to show how similar Luffy and Roger are in terms of them having the same dream, determination, and ambition and literally parallels in life. Oda going for Shanks to be a Roger is something that does not sit right with me as a reader. I understand that this is Oda's story and he can write it however he likes it's just to me that he seems to be giving all of his narrative threads to Luffy being Roger to Shanks when we haven't seen much of Shanks in the spotlight to claim the title of Roger. Not to mention Shanks is a celestial dragon. The thing that made it all make sense to me was that both Luffy and Roger had "D" in their names. Why would Oda draw so much attention to that clue and then give us a character that has no D in his name? This seems like bad writing to me. Also all of the characters that have mentioned Luffy reminding them of Roger is also being way-sided for Shanks. Personally I think Luffy should be Oda's only focus on Roger not Shanks. There is something else that has been bugging me, Shanks to me is written as a mary-sue character that has so much haki as a way to avoid a potential threat yet we haven't seen it. Matter of fact, the Gorosei were not as threatening as we were made to believe. There doesn't seem to be a threat that warrants that level of haki and this just seems like Oda not hiding how much he loves Shanks.
I just find it crazy that Mihawk is equal to Shanks. That would mean that Zoro beating him is the equivalent to Luffy beating Shanks. And we all know Zoro is and forever will be nowhere near Luffy's level. Shanks = The Captain's idol/obstacle. Mihawk = The first mate's idol/obstacle. That's it.

As casual move by Kaido, I think if Oden was on guard he would have taken damaged and brushed it off. Luffy off guard was put to sleep by Apoo. Luffy on guard was put to sleep by Kaido many of times. Kid was off guard for sure he was bound to beat put to sleep by the level of attack Shanks tossed his way.

If you put Zoro in the exact position as Kid he doesn't get one-shot. Firstly, Zoro doesn't have magnetic powers so he doesn't pull in the ships closer to give Shanks closer footing, like with Kid. Secondly, Zoro doesn't have a big lump of immobile metal strapped to his arm. If Zoro is able to react so fast that he can get infront off Conquest of the Sea before the rest of the Supernova can even think what to do and before Law could even think about teleporting with Room Shambles, then I think Zoro can raise up his arms a bit in order to block Shanks attack with his own Conquerors Haki infused swords. And if Zoro could momentarily block a double Yonko attack, end up with 30 broken bones and still get up, go into Ashura, clash with Kaido and give him a permanent scar, then he definitely has enough endurance after he gets blown back and injured by Divine Departure to continue fighting. But of course Shanks still wins at this point.

We've never seen zoro get knocked out from one attack, It's out of character. Not to mention Kidds rail gun explosion played apart, unless you want to say divine departure causes combustion, and Kidd has not taken the same level of damage as zoro and kept it pushing. You'd have to be saying that Divine departure, a single yonko attack, is stronger than a combined haki infused attack from BIg Mom and Kaido. Not to mention Zoro has greater mental fortitude. When Kidd was getting hit by hawkins/killer kidd was fading in and out of consciousness. But when zoro took oceans sovereignty he stayed conscious, went on to cut up prometheus, clash with kaido, and then blitz/scar him. If you wanna say zoro only held out for 3-8 seconds, then how long did kidd get hit by divine departure? If you wanna say zoro blocked, zoros swords would have to still absorb the shock. Also shanks had to hit through killer and the rail gun. It's not really a competition really.

Zoro's swords would at least be able to absorb 50% to 60% of the shock since he has advanced armament and advanced conquerers haki coating. (even with Enma not fully mastered). Zoro might even do better than that when you remember Oden never used visible haki to block Roger. (at least for sure not conquerers)

I don’t like the way anime fans talk about stuff like this in a reductionist way avoiding context, Kid was preoccupied charging a massive attack, meaning he was vulnerable, shanks went and delivered a fatal blow because of it, but don’t get me wrong shanks would beat kid 10/10 times in a fight, example Law and Kid should be pretty relative to each other, and Law give Blackbeard a decent fight, and the same would’ve have happened to Law if he gets hit directly by BB while preoccupied charging an attack, then the whole narrative about that fight changes

using durability to draw a comparison between kid and zoro is a good idea! it’s clear that big mom and kaido’s combined attack scales above any attack the pair could do individually, it’s a tag team attack. this makes any statements about kid’s durability being above zoro’s pretty unreasonable. beyond that, it’s impossible to directly scale divine departure to any big mom or kaido attack, because there aren’t any direct lines to draw: all we know is that divine departure knocked kid out, putting it above any attack he took during the raid. with the story’s context in mind, these are the reasonable conclusions we can make: zoro is more durable than kid, it’s in character for zoro to take strong attacks and not only stay conscious but continue to fight, and we don’t know how strong divine departure is. thus, the only thing we can confidently say is that there’s a decent possibility that zoro isn’t getting one shot. this is without bringing observation haki (which kid never displays) or asura (damaged kaido who is portrayed by the story to at least be relative to shanks) into the conversation.

Mihawk isn't interested in getting the one piece. He recently actively demonstrated this when he was pissed that buggy announced to his crew that he's going to get the one piece and become pirate king. Wouldn't make narrative sense for him to be there. Zoro in the other hand is part of Luffy's crew. Like the rest of the strawhats, he'll play an active role in getting Luffy to laugh take but ultimately it's Luffy's goal. Again, narrative is what's happening there.

I wouldn't assume that Shanks' divine departure equals all the damage he took in Wano. First up, most high level One Piece characters recover extremely quick from damage and are tanks in terms of endurance. The damage needed to put them down for good, when dispersed, is way higher than the damage needed to knock them out in one fell swoop. Kidd was fighting for a long time, so he had some time to recoup in between some of the bouts. Further on, an example, you have a knock out resistance of 70, and this means you can take any 70 potency attack without being knocked out. All the individual attacks used on Kidd in Wano are below 70 potency, therefore he doesn't get knocked out. Divine Departure is above 70 potency, so Kidd gets knocked out. Distributed damage is not the same as concentrated damage, particularly when it comes to the likelihood of knocking someone out.
I don't know why you're treating it like these characters have HP bars. They take attacks, and if it wrecks their body enough and get past their defenses, they get injured/die. None of the attack Kid took in Wano were enough to take him down, also Kid was backed up by other stronger characters like Luffy and Law who aided him in avoiding taking the full brunt of the damage. Kid got carried. He hasn't exactly been very successful in the New World without help.
Zoro on the other hand throughout the whole series has been shown to be a monster tank when it comes to taking injuries; Mihawk's slash, taking Luffy's pain from Kuma, and the Kaido Big Mom combo attack all being great examples. Zoro is also a swordsman, and would be more proficient against facing off against a sword attack head on. There's no way we'd be seeing Zoro go down on the first attack.
Edit: Also its weird that this video follows the idea that the comparison is that Zoro would have to get hit by the Divine Departure. Kid was unskilled enough that he couldn't block/dodge it. I don't think Zoro would be that unskilled.

It's very frustrating to me that there are so many people that seem to think that Shanks is Roger when Oda has spent so much time narratively showing us that it's Luffy. Oda has spent nearly two decades setting up threads to show how similar Luffy and Roger are in terms of them having the same dream, determination, and ambition and literally parallels in life. Oda going for Shanks to be a Roger is something that does not sit right with me as a reader. I understand that this is Oda's story and he can write it however he likes it's just to me that he seems to be giving all of his narrative threads to Luffy being Roger to Shanks when we haven't seen much of Shanks in the spotlight to claim the title of Roger. Not to mention Shanks is a celestial dragon. The thing that made it all make sense to me was that both Luffy and Roger had "D" in their names. Why would Oda draw so much attention to that clue and then give us a character that has no D in his name? This seems like bad writing to me. Also all of the characters that have mentioned Luffy reminding them of Roger is also being way-sided for Shanks. Personally I think Luffy should be Oda's only focus on Roger not Shanks. There is something else that has been bugging me, Shanks to me is written as a mary-sue character that has so much haki as a way to avoid a potential threat yet we haven't seen it. Matter of fact, the Gorosei were not as threatening as we were made to believe. There doesn't seem to be a threat that warrants that level of haki and this just seems like Oda not hiding how much he loves Shanks.
I just find it crazy that Mihawk is equal to Shanks. That would mean that Zoro beating him is the equivalent to Luffy beating Shanks. And we all know Zoro is and forever will be nowhere near Luffy's level. Shanks = The Captain's idol/obstacle. Mihawk = The first mate's idol/obstacle. That's it.

I akso think the question is pretty silly. Oden got wiped out by a normal haki infused thunder bagua due to him being off guard. As casual move by Kaido, I think if Oden was on guard he would have taken damaged and brushed it off. Luffy off guard was put to sleep by Apoo. Luffy on guard was put to sleep by Kaido many of times. Kid was off guard for sure he was bound to beat put to sleep by the level of attack Shanks tossed his way.
