THE MUMMER'S SURPRISE !

This is how we surprise our parents with a Yuletide visit of unexpected proportions.The mummering or jannying tradition in Newfoundland is a dying cultural form but has a special place still in some communities. It is the dressing in disguise over the 12 days of Christmas as a means of socializing and enjoying the holidays with friends and family. The object is to guess who the people in disguise are for a reward of drink and food. It is also a great way to surprise people who are not expecting you for the holidays as in the case of this video. My sister and her family surprised my parents with a visit from Brantford, Ontario back to Newfoundland on St Stephen's Day (Boxing Day) - no one was the wiser until the big reveal.

Looking good Greoff, hardly recognized you without your beard! Marie doing well but she's had a few set back but she still is going strong! Can hardly walk but still got herself to a play with her pals. Take care and good to hear from you.
