How to Make an Introduction: Welcome to Tally Hall

- How should a band properly introduce themselves to potential fans? To answer, I'll turn to one of my favorite bands and take a look at Tally Hall's titular track "Welcome to Tally Hall" off of their debut 2005 album, Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum. See why their style made for such a good first impression, and why I was immediately sucked in.

i think it's worth mentioning that the responding "T" after "can i get a T?" is also said somewhat quietly and apprehensive, which makes sense because it's the start of the song- it's almost as if the audience is unsure about the music, and the band is filling in their enthusiasm. it ties well with the cheering from the crowd at the end as if they've really grown to like it
lol
oh my goshh man what the fuck
also after being requested to say an “t,” someone in the crowd quietly says “a,” instead of saying “t” like the rest of the crowd
@@clemclemclemclemcl I’ve listened to the song 100 times and never heard it and I still can’t hear it
Someone is also late to saying "T"

As someone who's known this band since 2015 (far too late to actually watch them perform unfortunately) it's so surreal to see people still finding out about them now. It's great that more people are getting to enjoy them and their music, I know it's had a big impact on me. Apart from that, loved the video! It was a beautiful introduction and explanation to the wonderful chaos that is Tally Hall :)
I found this band in 2021 . i am incredibly late
I also found the band in 2021, all thanks to the obstinate youtube music algorithm
Same
Just found them 2 days ago! Already in love
this might seem dumb but what i think what's great about this band is that a lot of people have already "discovered" them, but there's only so few (like us watching this video) that don't write them off as just a weird quirky music group and actually appreciate what they're doing. I think in a weird way we're all a really niche and special group of people with our own quirky interests who were lucky enough to understand the fucking TALENT the 5 people in this group have
another thing I've noticed in the introduction part is that as the members are introduced, their respective instruments start playing. also, after joe's line about the amp, the guitar becomes the lead instrument in the song.
It’s a nice touch

i went to marvins recently and i gotta say, it lives up to the album, a weird collection of old arcade machines and little dioramas, definitely a worthwhile experience
I love Tally Hall. I have a ton of nostalgia for MMMM
I really got into them this last year, and I’ve bumped them nonstop since
@@ElementFreakYT I found them originally from tiktok (THE NON CRINGEY SIDE OF AESTHETIC VIDEOS) with their song Hidden in the Sand. I got into them more thanks to Mewtley using the demo to Spring and a Storm. I then listened to more of their songs. I enjoyed them then

Hey, you mentioned how you like transitions between songs in albums- in that case, I'd recommend Dear Wormwood by The Oh Hellos
I swear we have the exact same music taste
Poop
I saw you on every Tally Hall thing out there and I loved it ❤
You can't just talk about transitions between songs in albums without mentioning Side 2 of Abbey Road by The Beatles
i’d recommend the big four Pink Floyd albums (DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, and The Wall) and The Who’s Tommy.
please have the dopamine boost you wanted
Will do so, thanks much
Oh my god, this is so high quality, you deserve more subscribers.
You did an amazing job on this. You should do an extensive dissection of their Good&Evil album. I don't think that anyone else can really give it the scrutiny it deserves.
When he says he might rap like an english chap, its reference to the fictional country of England, obscure trivia like that is why tally hall is so great!
GOD you have somehow perfectly articulated all of my love of these 3 songs in one video, take my subscription just take it-
I’ve been a fan of Tally Hall since roughly 2014, slowly getting more deeply intimate with the entire discography and deeper into the history of the band. I’ve always thought that Welcome to Tally Hall was their best song, and I’m sure you don’t agree with that, but I seriously appreciate this analysis into the first three tracks off of MMMM. There was always something so special about it to me, and now I can finally put my finger on it.
dude that intro was perfect. you absolutely nailed the marvin's marvelous parody, it was spot on but slightly different, excellently excecuted
To be fair, the official music video for Ruler of Everything starts with 13
You are so underrated holy shit- , just like Tally Hall. THIS IS TEAGIC
I'm physically restraining to listen to the entire album again as you play samples. How dare you.
Edit: 6 Minutes in bye I'm gonna listen to all their songs now.
doing the same thing rn
I remember hearing them sometime in 2007 and falling in love with the style. Glad they're getting the recognition now but sad that it's taken so long.
Okay, if you like Tally hall, I bet you'll love Lemon Demon, you probably vibe to lemon demon already, but he's the guy who made harry potter puppet pals, helped on music on gravity falls, and made the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny, if you haven't already, PLEASE listen to some lemon demon if you have the time.

great analysis. Been hyperfocused on tally hall these past weeks for some reason, always loved joe hawleys work but never cared too much about their band. Now, IM ALL, TALLY HALL
Buuuut, have you noticed, their instruments are introduced when their ties/names are? The instruments slowly come back one after the other :)
this is a really nicely done video, even beyond the quality analysis of the song and album as a whole your editing style, the typography style in particular, looks really slick.
I like to imagine the first 2 songs are the soundcheck, and the ENTIRE rest of the album is them playing AT M⁴
Oh yes, the song that started it all for me back in middle school. It gives me both pleasure and pain to listen to this song.
Edit: you're mom
You are awesome
It's true, you're on every video. Love you dude

I think I have known of their songs for years, but only got formally introduced to the actual band in the past year.
You know someone understands a band so well when they do something right and you learn from it so you can duplicate that, I say it because, talking about how well they introduced themselves, you introduced yourself perfectly at the star of the video, like one minute in and I already knew what to expect of the rest of the essat and it was just what I imagined.
You're basically Zoomzike but instead of Sonic is Tally Hall, if you don't know what I am talking about check his video "City Escape it's peak Sonic game design"
Ive listened to all of them 6 times over, please help me i've fallen o
Into their "Trap"
I always thought that they said "We think we're playing in a band" because of whether it could really be considered a band, or just some people making music for fun
i love tally hall with more love than i have for my own mother. thank you for talking about my niche favourite topic ever. you are my hero.
My friends refused to commit tally hall fan so im starting a war and screaming weird references at them.
Also i love the video *i just thought that'd be something important*
Tell them that everyone loves a potato monkey.
They're not fans of tally hall so you're starting a tally war.
Ask them of they want a banana
Tell them that you take a spaghetti bath monthly

Question and then reccomendation:
Do you think that Tally Halls music is deep and physiological?
If so
I reccomend the band Primus. They are weird and funky like Tally Hall, but they go in kind of the opposite direction with it. Their songs are usually “about” very real events and scanarios and people. But if you peer beyond the veil you see that something ain’t right. If you want a starting song I’d reccomend John the Fisherman. If you want an album i reccomend Green Naugahyde. If you take this up and enjoy the music, I’d love to see a video breakdown of a song or the band similar to this one. Thanks for reading
Will check them out
@@ElementFreakYT thank you :)
I think this is one the bests recommendations I've ever received just from scrolling through the comments. Not long ago a friend of mine also told me about Les Claypool and you both are the Lords of good music so... ¿Would you like to talk more about the album? Or just help introduce me into primus if it's no problem :)
Btw, I read your comment yesterday and I've been hearing not only Green Naugahyde but other albums like antipop all day
@@OuiBaguette05 dude I’d love to. That’s awesome that you checked em out. I honestly think they are a lot like Tally Hall in certain ways tbh but a lot of people aren’t ready for that conversation.
Why is Zubin's verse highlighted in red?
I messed up when making it and noticed it too late
"Why isn't this the first song in the album"

This is awesome, so glad I stumbled upon this!
Great video! You did a stellar job explaining what makes tally hall so awesome, and I really liked the visuals you incorporated along with the song clips.
This video is wonderful and I love it
I think welcome to tally hall was the reason I started listening to tally hall in the first place. I got it recommended to me next to banana man and turn the light off. I wouldn’t say that banana man and turn the lights off are any substitute for the experience of hearing mmmm for the first time, but it was definitely pretty close.
One of my favorite tally hall videos ive seen. Vid is amazing man
Found hawaii part 2 but accident, then got recommended &, not knowing it was mostly the same group.
Then found a comment on variation on a cloud mentioning ruler of everything. Looked up the song and have been in love since.
Ps. Banana Man is a gift from God himself
The exact same thing happened to me
Lol I found this band by a person that sounds like technoblade singing hidden in the sand, and I played the real version on accident. Best accident ever
Very neat video dawg, I enjoyed it
Love the video! I recently discovered Tally Hall (as in, 2020l) and I am absolutely fascinated. The amount of times I have listened to their album is just too much. I've wound love a video about the Miracle Musival and Hawaii: part 2, to explore that crazy album (probably one of my favorite of all time). Keep it up dude!
Tally Hall posted a video saying that if they get 30-40 million monthly listeners on Spotify, they will reunite! They’re probably just joking about the number (but hopefully not about them coming back). Either way, I want to bring hype to this situation, and most importantly, to spread the Tally Hall listenership! So please listen and pass on this information!

Love this, great work!
dang you were new to video essays when you made this? you could’ve fooled me! very entertaining and well thought out, you can really tell you are passionate about music, thank you for this video as I go about my tally hall lore dive!
i really love this video and i think you have a lot of potential!! you have personality and you clearly put in effort :) ill definitely be watching more of your stuff!!
Watching this video for the third time now because it is so good :)
I love hearing people talking about tally hall because i stumbled across them a year ago and since then they've been my favourite band
Kinda sad i was so late but looking into them is really fun lol
Or you could just make an easily meme-able song which is also sometimes a good listen for certain moods (Ruler of Everything).
my brother in christ, all their songs are extremely meme-able
This man summed up tally hall pretty good
What’s up noon, I enjoyed this. I have one recommendation for a history/biography/musical evolution. If you’re interested I want to see a one of the Korean-American rapper/actor Dumbfoundead. Thank you
I stumbled on tally hall through a eddsworld flipnote of “Hidden in the sand” and I really liked it though I didn’t listen to their other songs (except for turn the lights off and ruler of everything and a little bit of the bidding but only the first part) and during summer school I decided to revisit tally hall (though only listening to ruler of everything and turn the lights off) until Spotify decided to play me & and I really liked it and decided to listen to their first album and taken for a ride is my favorite song from their. Haven’t listened to good and evil yet though
It’s good!
Watching That EddsWorld Flipnote was my introduction to tally hall too. I Can't believe I'm not the only one
Fantastic!
I got into them around 2010 and wasn't aware that they stopped making music. I was still waiting for the next album for the next few years in the back of my mind but it never came
lol how do you not have more views or subs?
bro you need so many more subs. its just facts
This is a very goob video I enjoy 👍👍👍
I found Tally Hall through Banana Man back in 15, and it’s been a fun ride, since. Finding them, thinking they’re a comedy band, then playing another song and being confused about what I found. Listening to Tally Hall makes me feel like I’m missing out on life, and it really gives me motivation to go out there and make something of myself, just like five, six if you count Bora, guys from Ann Arbor did. These guys had a passion, and are still chasing it, even if it’s not the way we’d exactly want it
Me and my friend were in line for a roller coaster and I asked her “can I get a T” and she actually said t and then I broke into the entire song 😂
Beautiful, your on Reddit my dude
not gona lie, this made me love this song even more. It was already my faovirte Tally Hall song but now? It's defenitly in my top 3 favorite songs

[6:39] BRISTOL F.2 AND SOPWITH CAMEL F1 SPOTTED, WW1 nerding out time.
The Bristol F.2 fighter plane is a 2 seated attack plane introduced in the late war when Britain was losing the air in the war to Germany’s superior fighter pilots, the plane is outfitted with 2 guns, a front machine gun used for front hand dogfighting, and a Lewis gun mounted on the backseat to help the plane avoid get shot down from the back.
The Sopwith Camel F.1 is arguably the most famous plane in WW1, it is a single seated fighter biplane with 2 machine guns on the front for dogfighting, the plane gained the name camel from the hump at the front, it is the highest scoring plane of the First World War, with over 1000 enemy planes shot down. Of the approximately 5,490 Camels manufactured, only 8 are known to survive, likely meaning every other one was shot down, lost, or destroyed.
