- Denmark will be different in 2024... and here's how! In this video, we take a look at the changes on the horizon for Denmark in 2024. Many things will be different about life in Denmark, and we wanted to help others navigate the changes that are coming for Denmark this year.
Besides the new king of Denmark, things are changing throughout Danish life. We can expect that getting around Denmark will include higher public transportation costs, but some areas will see increased subsidies. Property taxes in Denmark will be calculated in a different way with a major impact on new home buyers in Denmark and potential impacts on housing prices in Denmark.
Working in Denmark will be different in 2024 as well. For foreigners living in Denmark, there are more jobs on the positive list, and everyone may be subject to new EU work hours record laws.
Some new laws have been proposed with ramifications for those starting a family in Denmark. Others will impact how holidays are celebrated and one Danish holiday will go missing in 2024.
Overall, living in Denmark should be as good as always this year, but there are some significant changes on the way that we can all be knowledgable of now.

Thanks for laying out the coming changes! I was just in Copenhagen in December and was on a tour bus when someone lit off fireworks in Rådhuspladsen and I instinctively ducked behind my seat. All the europeans gave me funny looks, but I thought there were gunshots. I forgot where I was for a moment. 😆

I may be the only one with this issue since I have ADHD, but I found the background music distracting, it made it harder for me to focus on what Derek was saying. It may also in part be because english is not my native language, because even though I speak it well, it still demands a bit more concentrating on my part to listen to.

More money for the psychiatic departmens is a must!! You probably heard about the guy who opened fire in the Fields mall.
He tried to get a hold of the psychiatric hotline multiple times, just hours before going to the mall, but he was on hold forever and couldn't get help. An interview with the hotline later revealed that he never got through to them, because they were closed due to summer holidays :(

@RobeTrotting yeah there's been signs that something was going to happen and it does make sense.
I bought a house in rural Denmark in dec 2020. The new property tax is 24% higher than what I paid in 2020. The housing market overall has decreased by 10% in the area in those 3 years. The only house currently on sale is listed at a price 20% lower than the new property tax estimate.
Since I can not complain until 2025 and its "just a " 24% increase, I'll be one of the lucky ones that gets a tax increase, and it is doubtful any complaining will accomplish anything but me paying the fee for complaining.

I never forget the day in June 1967 when the queen got married, spend the weekends with a friend at his uncle's sommer hus, down at Greve Strand. Was watching it on TV with a couple of girls, at least that was what we were supposed to be doing.

Thanks for this. Another topic for future videos might be using public transit (a) within Copenhagen and/or (b) outside of Copenhagen with videos on ferries, regional busses, commuter trains, local trains, express trains and European trains. Also how to download and use the transit app. Sweden has a similar set up but as a tourist, it's sometimes hard to know whether it's better to buy individual tickets at the subway or buy a pass for 1 day or 7 days, etc. etc.
Also, anything about the job market in Denmark is always interesting.
Also, anything about the history of the ridiculous holidays in DK would also make a fun video. Swedes never go to church but they still get loads of religious holidays off...

Another thing that has changed in Copenhagen. Copenhagen municipality has budgeted DKK 2,000,000 for guards to control the harbor baths. Too many have ended up on RUclips involuntarily, without consent and without their knowledge. In general, you may film in all public places, but not if a municipality has made rules that say you must not. It is a violation of section § 16 of the public ordinance and can result in a fine.
i'm one of those people, that DONT use my phone for everything, as i barely use it, and dont use data on my phone, unless it's an update for the phone, so i still have my bank card, travel card (rejsekort), and yellow card (social security card)...
As a Danish/American whos moving to Denmark for the first time as an adult, I would love a "how to adult in Denmark" video! Everything about adulting that I've been taught, like taxes/retirement/credit score/stock market, has been about doing this stuff in America and I feel so ill prepared to be an adult there 😅

Even though we are told to re-check in when changing mode of transportation, ie from metro to bus, this is not really needed. I have multiple times been checked by stewards when I neglected to re-check in. Nothing happens and I am treated as if all is well.

If the national healthcare takes care of the Danes, how does an expat use the same system and what are the costs? Could an expat join the Danish medical healthcare system? Is it paid by the employer (or directly from your salary)?

Even i am from The Netherlands i was stunned by the Queens decision leaving for her son to rule. Now she was born on 16 april 1940. So why leaving now in Januari and not retire on 16 april 2024 ? It was very unexpected and so soon. I really wonder why? Is she still in good health at 83 years of age?
Her back is worn out and it's a pain to walk. So i get it. She's been at it since the early 70's so I would say shes deserved to tag en femmer af.. as we say here...
She was proclamed Queen after her late father, King Frederik lX, on the 14’th of January 1972.
The date is perfectly chosen.

@@renevw5812 I can guarantee that that she took the danes by surprise when she gave us her notice in her New Year speech. Seconds after that, Facebook was buzzing with people writing to each other. She was immensely popular in Denmark. Obviously a bit coloured by her decision a very fresh poll gave her a high popularity from 93 % from the voters.
And yes, she was very popular from royalty all over Europe, a cousin to the British royal house, and due to her great grandfather King Christian lX, who had three daughters that got married out to three European Royal houses, obviously shared familiar relations with these houses. I’m afraid that I’m not familiar in which houses she’s related.

It's so funny, the media was exclaiming their shock at her abdication, but everyone who was interviewed said they totally expected her to abdicate soon-ish anyway.

Please realise that you can only get help to become pregnant if you are thin. It's not something they talk a lot about on the info webside, but you have to have a recomendation from your doktor to enter the program. In order to pass you must not be overweith...No explanations given

Hmmm, I’d have to see it - I think you can spin economic indicators to tell whatever story you want to tell (in most cases). Like calling someone who owns a 6.8 million kroner home “a millionaire” will skew the per capita data.
I think in Denmark, no one will ever be living in deep poverty - that’s a great thing. It’s probably also rather unlikely you’ll ever be super rich, so that’s less great to some people.
@@RobeTrotting we definitely dont build like in America. No one has a Hollywood kind of home. I doubt even the Lego family has anything impressive. I've never seen a house that would be a dream house to me in Europe. Its too tiny and quaint. Whetes the roman statues and women with jugs of water and a 40 meter pool ? 😏
