Aubrey, you are the very best wallpapering teacher on RUclips. I will follow your techniques in my business exactly as you have taught me. Your ways are exactly as I remember my father practising wallpaper hanging back in the 60's. Thank you from Somerset Handyman.
Single Mum, so very grateful 👍! 2 sockets to cut around from 1 peice of paper (redecorating porch - water damage - only 3 drops required 🥴), but NOW I have confidence - on it 🤗. TY!
Thank you so much! I have watched so many of your videos now, and they have helped so much. I am wallpapering the very large master bedroom of our 120 year old farmhouse. Your videos and tips have helped me make everything nearly perfect! I so so so appreciate your videos ❤️ You do excellent work!
Cutting into sockets has been a nightmare for me, this video was a godsend. Just done two and both perfect. Wife says I need to re decorate and get rid of the mess on the rest of the sockets now. Cheers for help👍🍺
Thank you for the demo!! I was just not going to do the whole wall and figure out a way just to do part of the wall. This is great! I will give it a go!
Very good video Aubrey. The only thing I’d mention is that by using the large plastic spreader (to push the wallpaper behind the socket) there’s a small risk of damaging the wallpaper. To prevent this I just use the hanging brush.
@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating thanks to your tutorial, it went nicely! Thanks again. Been decorating for a good while, but only really starting papering from last year… so still learning the ways!
My only question is, if you’re going to loosen the switch plate to tuck the paper in anyway, why don’t you just take the switch plate all the way off and cut the square in around the working bits and put the switch plate back on?
Hi Rory, this is usual practice by decorators when papering around switches. It is safer not to disconnect the wiring and the regulations may mean that you need to be a qualified electrician to do this. Regards Aubrey.
Well this isn’t from my mouth, my good friend who’s a fireman and has been for 30 plus years says that this is one of the most common cause of fire after carelessness etc, just passing on what he said that is why like you I won’t put too much paper behind the light switch/ socket, just a few millimetres, I’ve seen jobs with inches in there .
Doesn’t matter if you use a plastic caulker you are touching a switch that has wet paste on it with your hands. The only way you should be putting paper behind sockets and switches is if the power is off at the consumer unit and you have tested to make sure there is no power to the outlets. Paste conducts electricity. Also on certain sites you would be put off the site for health and safety reasons as you are not qualified to touch electrical fittings .
Best not to mess with the electrics in my experience. e.g Sometimes there can be a lot of wires going into the socket - they don’t always re connect that easy. Aubrey’s method is the one most pro’s use.

How would you wallpaper with attached PVC trunking to the wall? I'm trying to wallpaper for my mom, but there is unsightly PVC trunking everywhere.
Very good Video from you
Good stuff, glad you liked it Doctor.
Amazing video.
Thanks very much 👍👍👍👍
You're welcome 😊
thank you :]
You're welcome!
Very well explained mate 👍 just how I would do the same way 😊
Thanks 👍
can you do i vid for the big bulky sockets aubrey?the ones that come out about 2 inch from the wall
Great idea CD, I will definitely put that one on the list.
Isnt there a risk with moist paper tucked behind an electric switch plate?
I usually just cut carefully around...good enough ha
Exacto knife maybe...
👍🏼👌
Are you a Paul McCrtney’s relstive?
My thoughts as well 😂

Also tucking in to much paper behind a socket or plug can be a major fire hazard
@@Ianmacca75 I’ve never heard of any wallpaper related fires.

I've thought that many times too. To be honest. Both techniques would work. Aubrey has described it so well though. Very impressed
Do you get a better result if you color coordinate youre outfit with the paper? Nice matching :)
Hasn’t the paper edges dried out in this time

So I'm watching your quiet demo... And then a screaming ad comes in. 😵💫🤪😡🤬
Sorry to hear that.
Everything you have done is correct but it is a fire hazard to put paper behind any socket so your video is wrong
No it’s not wrong. The paper only goes 5mm behind the socket so there’s no way it would come into contact with the electric wires.
Just take the switch off instead of fafing around
