Thanks, Kenny. I think you have Sheena as I recall, maybe I’m wrong. Some of these are harder to pick up than others but definitely lots of interesting ones in his career.
One of the most informative videos I've seen in a while. I've heard of Guillerman, but really only knew Towering Inferno and King Kong. Now I know more...
Hi Neil, Thank you! I won't be expecting an Academy Award winning movie! I do appreciate you taking the time to tell me about it! Enjoy the rest of your day!!!
Oh that’s cool that you have it. I do think the opening scene in a saloon bar that is an obvious set is a bit underwhelming but it then gets more interesting as the story progresses.
Very interesting stuff Neil, I only own six of his films, the Two Tarzan movies you showed, The Towering Inferno, King Kong (1976) I was Monty’s Double and Death On The Nile (1978) oddly enough Sheena is released over here next Monday 🧐 again very informative mate, take care👍😃👍
Hi Alan. Great to hear that you have those ones. I Was Monty’s Double was on TV in the UK a fair few times when I was growing up but as with many WWII films doesn’t get talked about so much these days. I can’t say Sheena is a great movie and it’s certainly had terrible reviews over the years but I still think it’s worth a watch and I have a soft spot for it. Not many films where you can see flamingos attacking a helicopter pilot! Thanks very much for watching
Wow . Thanks so much. Ever since I saw the Towering Inferno and King Kong as a child they have both had a special place in my heart. Honestly never thought about the director. What a very informative video. I already tried tracking a few of his films. Hope you do more filmmaker spotlights
Thank you very much for watching. Yes, I think for many The Towering Inferno and King Kong remain special, particularly if you got the opportunity to see them when young. But otherwise yes, he has not been a director who has sprung to mind for most people and there’s little documented about him. I hope you will get the opportunity to see a few more of his films.
Great Collection Neil! I've seen only 7 of these movies and two are Towering... and King Kong. My fav is Death on the Nile :) I hated the Branagh version.... Peter Selllers baddie, interesting. But the other movies that I saw were the Peppard ones.... I like Peppard,... Never focused my atention on the director.... call me the Academy
Thanks, Marianna. If you have seen 7 then that is more than a lot of people. And a number of his films are now not so easy to buy. When Branagh’s Death on the Nile was announced I had thought I may like it more as he was shooting in 70mm but it really did turn out to be a disappointment and with some horrid use of cgi. Good to hear you like the Peppard ones
@@rollotommasi Very cool. It was bugging me that the version I held up was part of a war movie set. My sister inherited the movie poster for it which has stunning artwork
Hi Neil, All of the John Guillermin films you showed looked very much like ones I would enjoy! Apparently he just directed my type of movies! You sure had a lot of good ones! I will be looking for some of these. I really enjoyed this video too, it was very informative, So thank you!!!
Thanks, Lita. I think I have a pretty comprehensive collection of his movies although there are a few not available. Not a director that people generally “collect” and there is very little on him on RUclips which is a pity. He certainly had flaws but he deserves to be known for more of his filmography
Hi Lita. Great to hear you enjoyed it. I realize my comments about it were a bit on the negative side as I think Guillermin has made a number of better movies, but it still has interest value. Glad you liked it. Thanks for letting me know
Hey, Stuart. Thanks very much. Oh great to hear you ordered it and I hope you will enjoy it. If you want to hear Edgar Wright and Quentin Tarantino talking about it then if you search for the Empire Film Podcast and their episode from February 3 2021 you will find it there. It’s a fun conversation overall about a number of great British movies
I thought I heard of all the Peter Sellers movies and never let go I never seen it or heard of it. I might have to look that one up. Sounds really interesting.
Thanks for watching, Neal. I talk about quite a number of his films here so which ones are of interest? I showed a mixture of region 1 and 2 titles. Some are available on both regions, some not.
Another surprising but worthwhile topic, Neil. I had forgotten that Guillerman directed Rapture. I still have the Twilight Time release in my collection which is of course now out of print and unlikely to be released by anyone else. It is certainly an oddball title for him but really would be for any director. Lots of talent that does indeed surface. Guillerman is interesting in that director-for-hire category, outside of his first, I guess, in which he wrote the screenplay. I think Rapture is the first of his movies I have seen or at least remember. Those early British films look very interesting with some terrific performers. Probably can find some of these on youtube.
Thanks very much for watching, Roger. Rapture really does deserve to be more widely known, as do several others. It does tread some sensitive territory but I rewatched it again before uploading this and just think that how the camera is used to tell much of the story is stunning. From his early years, The Crowded Day is possibly my favorite (particularly Josephine Griffin’s storyline, a fine actress). Thunderstorm also has some great scenes and Linda Christian stuns in that film.
Thanks very much for watching. If you can get a copy of Rapture it is definitely worthwhile, it does go into some sensitive areas but does so very well and the cinematography throughout is stunning. The Twilight Time bluray is out of print. You may be able to watch on RUclips or find a copy on eBay
Hi Neil, The other day I picked up the DVD El Condor. I picked it up for 2 reasons. The first being it was directed by John Guillermin and cause it was never opened yet. I haven't seen it yet, but wondered if you liked it? It it isn't good, no great loss, as I paid practically nothing. Hope you are having a good day!
Hi Lita. Firstly that’s a good find, and sealed as well, not a film you would typically come across. Obviously I’m interested in it because of my interest in John Guillermin but it’s far from his best work. Tonally it’s a bit of a mess, I didn’t really find it funny nor dramatic. It also has a scene involving Mariana Hill that is probably inappropriate nowadays. That said, it has its moments and the fortress built for the film still stands I believe in a somewhat ruinous state and was used in films such as Bite the Bullet and Conan the Barbarian
Awesome video Neil, I love as very unfamiliar with his work but I’ll check him out for Sure.
Thanks, Kenny. I think you have Sheena as I recall, maybe I’m wrong. Some of these are harder to pick up than others but definitely lots of interesting ones in his career.

Thanks Eric. Hard to say enough without making too long a video. I hope it was of interest
Great collection video 👍🏻
Thanks very much, I hope it was of interest

This is great! An excellent summary of his career and a great collection
Thanks very much. I hope I did his career justice
Very informative
Thanks very much for watching
I actually have The Tracker, haven't watched it yet and didn't know a thing about it, so thanks!

Yes, Never Let Go is definitely worth seeing to see a different side of Peter Sellers, a rare vicious role for him.
very well done overview by the director. What would help me is if you could tell us what region the disc is. Thanks Neal T.
