it becomes so early for leona. Mariah can still belt smoothly until 2013. Leona's voice is such a great loss. You'll never hear a voice like that again.
It just pains me that Leona could have been a lot bigger than what she was allowed to be. It’s sad that the initial label she was under didn’t really want her releasing her own music but to be a cover artist essentially and release covers of already existing songs. They held her back so much. Such an amazing voice.
@@sapphirelatina it was reported that the record label wanted her to release a few albums that were covers of other songs and didn’t really care for her original music. She’s done interviews regarding the topic.

How TF does Mariah shorter prime and less longevity than the greats?????? She’s one of the most CURRENT ppl from the 90s!! Not to mention she has several primes VOCALLY…AFTER DAYDREAM ERA
@@irocemrockett1118 He is talking about vocal prime, not career prime. Vocally, her prime was 1990-1996. Sure she has had great vocal moments after but that is her vocal prime. Compared to her contemporaries including Celine and Whitney, her vocal prime was shorter but considering that she had nodules and gave some of the most extraordinary vocals in mainstream music, those years were more that enough to cement her legacy as one of the greatest vocalists.
@@GarageStudio7 And this is why knowing wth you’re talking about is important. She’s had another vocal prime from 2000-2006!! Glittera era her voice was even more stronger and dynamic than Daydream! We’re not even going to talk about Emancipation of Mimi era…. So NO!! Those weren’t just good “vocal moments”!! Whitney couldn’t sing a lick after 1999 yet her yall wanna say her vocal primes have been longer than Mariah’s?? And I love Whitney down…and yes I know she was out b4 Mariah but even with that taken into account Mariah’s is still longer. She’s been the most consistent and putting her voice to use!
A4 - Tie (both great technique) Bb4 - Leona (more complex phrase + vibrato) B4 - Mariah (more resonant, better breath support and more comfort) C5 - Tie (Mariah sounded more healthy but Leona had nice vibrato) C#5 - Leona (slightly better controlled) D5 - Mariah (resonant, more powerful) Eb5 - Tie (both excellent) E5 - Mariah (much better technique, ease and vibrato, perfect job!) mariah’s F5 wasn’t that pushy tho especially the second one. omg leona’s last two F#5s 😱 im shook. they were better i fear, especially in terms of placement. well maybe not the last one sksksks, mih’s F#5s are still superior. 3:00 link??
Tbh I feel like u rlly went easy on Leona cause tons of those clips for Mariah, especially in the mid belts have other counterparts that are like a MILLION times better lol. That’s saying a lot tho of how much of an insane vocalist she is. I’m still ACHING to see someone use that “Patti Labelle” belted B4 phrase from 2009 Mariah tho that clip’s SOOO underrated and one of the BEST B4s ever😩. That along with the Vanishing 1993 MSG B4 and the Arsenio hall Hero are my faves from her❤. I LOVE the D5 u used tho instead of the Tokyo Dome Underneath the Stars one which is overused so I can’t even be mad😭
@@bmwjourdandunngoddess6024 girl what… the main clip I talked abt in my comment was from 2009💀😭 PLSSS. I like both singers but im for leona lewis because i watched ber whole x facter journey and she was fresh tallent and shocked people with her vocals on many occasions.
Mariah is my all time fave but i was so excited for Leona with her incredibly gorgeous tone, those x factor performances were mind blowing, sadly voice issues impacted what could have been. She was exquisite.

its really shows how immense Mariah was that Leona is levels below Mariah's own debut vocals. & I mean that with all due respect because no one is on Primeriahs level at all.
In this particular battle, Mariah has the better belts from top to bottom imo. Leona's a very good singer who was able to do some pretty magnificent stuff in her prime, but Mariah was always the superior belter. Even now, on a good day, I think Mariah can support her belts better than Leona currently can, though Leona can still go higher.
I think they are both on the same level on current days, Leona’s A4 was on 2023 and her F5 was 2020, regaining its strength from the fatal decline in 2018/19. The only difference now is that Leona sings all her songs currently in falsetto and Mariah lips 90% of her show.
@@addictedtovocals It seems to me like Leona has lost her power completely, whereas Mariah can still engage her diaphragm and give a good belt (when she tries). Leona singing that A4 is like...quiet speaking volume. All that said, I'd rather Mariah sing a whole concert in falsetto (or in lower register) than what she's doing right now, but that's a different discussion I suppose...
@@addictedtovocals Seems like you’re quite familiar with them. Leona singing “If I can’t have you” late last year is stronger than all the *live* performances Mariah gave us last year and now she is lip-syncing almost everything.
