    How to change a diaper.
One of the best ways to avoid diaper rash is to change your baby frequently -- every few hours or whenever you feed them. Change your baby in a quiet, warm place and keep supplies within reach so you can keep your attention on the baby.
Start by putting a new diaper under your baby's bottom, and then undo the soiled diaper.
If you have a boy, drape a washcloth or wipe across his penis to avoid getting squirted. Clean your baby with wipes or a wet washcloth.
If you're changing a boy who's not circumcised, don't try to clean under the foreskin. The tissues are delicate and you could damage them.
If you have a girl, wipe her from front to back, to avoid infections that can happen when bacteria get into the vagina.
Next, take off the soiled diaper and move it out of your baby's reach. Let them air dry. If needed, apply ointment, diaper cream, or petroleum jelly.
Now do up the clean diaper. If you have a boy, point his penis downward to prevent leaks up the front of the diaper.
Wash your hands when you're finished. If your baby touched their diaper area, wash or wipe their hands too.
    To change your baby:
    • put a clean diaper under their bottom and then take off the soiled diaper.
    • clean the bottom and let it air dry. Then apply ointment or cream.
    • do up the diaper and wash your hands.
    • If your baby touched their diaper area, clean their hands too.
