  • IN MARCH 1963 WHEN THE BEATLES FIRST CAME TO BRISTOL I WAS NINE YEARS OLD AND AT PRIMARY SCHOOL. WE WERE ALL BEATLES MAD. I WASN'T OLD ENOUGH TO HAVE ATTENDED THE COLSTON HALL BUT MY COUSIN DID AND SHE STILL HAS THE TICKETS TO PROVE IT. THE BEATLES PLAYED AT THE COLSTON HALL THREE TIMES IN 1963 AND 1964. I HOPE THAT THIS SHORT VIDEO WILL BRING BACK MEMORIES TO ALL THE BEATLES FANS IN BRISTOL.

My girlfriend, Jill, myself and our best friend, Roger, who was wheelchair bound, had tickets to see the Beatles at the November 1964 performance. Roger's father owned a big black Humber Snipe and, to make getting Roger into the wheelchair and into the theatre easier, had arranged with the police to pull up directly outside the Colston Hall in order that they could clear a way through. We duly arrived and Roger's father signalled one of the officers who, with two colleagues, waved the car into a waiting space on the frontage - at that moment the crowd of fans began to surge forward thinking the Beatles had arrived. Instantly, the car was surrounded, but as soon as people realised it wasn't them, they darted back to the queue and left us to unload Roger into his chair. Brilliant night! Brilliant memory.

Yes, I was there, 17 years old. If memory serves, this was the days when for 5 shillings you could go see many acts on the same bill. I think the Beatles closed the second half.

The Beatles never played the Corn Exchange but many great bands did. I will be posting a video about the Corn Exchange in the future. Regards Dave.

My future sister in law saw them at the Colston Hall (oh dear, mustn’t mention that name any more) and she managed to get Ringo’s drum stick! Great memory Dave, thanks for posting.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
