Welcome to the official RUclips channel of Joni Mitchell, whose songs “River,” “Both Sides Now," “California,” and albums ‘Clouds,’ ‘Ladies of the Canyon’ and ‘Blue’ compose only a fragment of a multi-disciplinary artistic output that has been embraced across generations, inspired multitudes of artists, and earned every conceivable accolade.
One of the world’s most remarkable and beloved artists, Mitchell has influenced musicians across a vast cross-section of genres with her ethereal songs that reflect social and environmental ideals. The prolific singer-songwriter-painter-poet has not only written and produced her music, but also designed most of her album covers and packaging. A journey into Joni Mitchell’s artistry is one of a highly original, harmonically innovative, and emotionally charged, familiar yet fresh adventure.
In every hundred or even thousand years, there comes someone unparalleled in talent. That would be Joni.
🤘😁🍺
Absolutely
Without a doubt...
Verdade
this precious, very early recording is an important document of joni's development. i love it. it's worth listening to alongside the studio version, which was done just three years later [1968] -- it's extraordinary to hear how her artistry developed in that short time.

as a poem, the lyrics are essentially perfect. by 1965 she had already achieved mastery as a poet.
I awoke today and found
the frost perched on the town
It hovered in a frozen sky
then it gobbled summer down
When the sun turns traitor cold
and all the trees are shivering in a naked row...
I get the urge for going
But I never seem to go
I get the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown
And summertime is falling down and winter is closing in
I had a man in summertime
He had summer-colored skin
And not another girl in town
My darling's heart could win
But when the leaves fell on the ground
And bully winds came around
and pushed them face down in the snow...
He got the urge for going
And I had to let him go
He got the urge for going
When the meadow grass was turning brown
And summertime was falling down and winter was closing in
Now the warriors of winter give a cold triumphant shout
And all that stays is dying all that lives is gettin' out
See the geese in chevron flight
Flapping and racing on before the snow...
They've got the urge for going
And they've got the wings to go
They get the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown
And summertime is falling down and winter is closing in
I'll ply the fire with kindling now
I'll pull the blankets up to my chin
I'll lock the vagrant winter out
And I'll bolt my wandering in
I'd like to call back summertime
And have her stay for just another month or so...
But she's got the urge for going
So I guess she'll have to go
She gets the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown
And all her empire's falling down
And winter's closing in.
And I get the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown
And summertime is Falling Down.
There are no words that can describe the influence Joni has had on me during my life.
Same here
So magical sounding. Not many songs give me goosebumps. This one does.
74 and I still love her songs as much as I did in my 30’s.
Timeless.
I got chills from her very first word.
Oh, how I love her. ❤❤❤
The beauty of her lyrics and the sound of her voice never fail to astound me.
Hello 👋 Pamela
How are you doing today
This is probably my favorite version of this song, I cry literally every time
Old Man Winter is not far behind chasing us into the cold 🌬🍂 Thank you Joni Mitchell for creating and sharing your music gift with the world. Enjoyed seeing and hearing you along with Tom Scott and The LA Express! You Rock!
Love Always to you🌷💖🕊
I love that you're embracing your early music - it really is beautiful like all the rest! And this song is a perfect release for this time of year. Lovely!
So magical and mysterious ✨ Makes me think of fall & winter simultaneously
Your lyrics Joni wow! They teach me things. Are you possessed by angels? The metaphors are impeccable! The empires are falling this fall! I get you! ✨💖✨
I think this is a Tom Rush song actually, beautiful lyrics nonetheless, as are Joni's own x
@@claremccarron3058 No it's Joni's. Rush covered it.
You're right! My mistake x
Thank you, Joni, for releasing more of your amazing work!

So deeply beautiful!!! Forever grateful for the wonder of her music and lyrics ❤❤❤
beautiful I love the Joni "cowgirl" pic
Joni Mtchell rarely recorded Urge For Going, it seems. I'm no JM expert, but I don't think it's on any of her popular albums. But I've heard recordings of her playing Urge with backup musicians. Anyone know how many recordings she did of this and who the backup musicians were? Thanks! -Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
I was weaned on folk in the 50s.
Joni is a bit older than I but I still feel related to the time she sings of and this song travels me back there in my mind.
Lloro. Love her so much.
Wow. That’s atmospheric. You can really feel the impending winter.
I was thinking the same thing!❄(the geese!)
Joni is definitely the one in a million. Beautiful music beyond
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Add this brilliant version to Tom Rush's timeless rendition, Dave Van Ronk's beautiful interpretation, and Joni's version on the B-Side of "You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio". All perfect.
Winters closing in and I have the urge for going too.
Joni! What a wonderful surprise, to find new music! Well, new to us. You have been my best friend since 1973,when I found Blue in a neighbors collection. Thank you for sharing your gift.
✨magical✨
Perfect.........
Bought the white and clear vinyl editions with the art print. Great deal at only 1500 copies each. Can't wait to hear all the songs and future volumes!
Niiiiiice!
"I've written a couple of new songs...I think you'll like this one." - Earliest version yet! 1965. And fully realized. Wow.
I recently heard Tom Rush sing this tune in person....it is a favorite. xoxox
This is even before that Canadian show clip that's on RUclips, by a year.
This is really beautiful, thank you so much Joni
Beautiful song. 🥰
Beautiful Joni Mitchell her words pierce and soothe ❤🙏👏👏👏🔥
Magnificent. Thank You for always being there in time and space.
"Who do you think you are? Kitty Wells?"

Coming to see you Joni! 🎼🎸💙 October
Joni ❤️
Joni sure sounds articulate to me!
Who' the ONE down vote.. Speak Now(hint)
There are two now. What is WRONG with some people?
@@MsCatM Those damn Justin Beiber fans lol
@@Piggy-Oink-Oink That's funny!😃 The imbecils probably don't even know who she is🙄 & unable to do much more than click a '👎'
I absolutely love this song, but one thing I always wondered is where did fall/autumn go?!? The sone moves from summer to winter.
The urge for going comes when the meadow grass is turning brown, or, fall. The song begins in fall.
💖
Fabulous 🎉
Joni Mitchell is pure magic. This is one of my favorites and not easy to find on recording
A song of Joni's that I'm not familiar with - yet. I will definitely listen to this again.
Me too! I'm wondering how this one got by me... better late than never.🎶
She released the studio version years later on her compilation album Songs of A Prairie Girl. Try to give that a listen, it’s very good.
Love.
❤️Love the cowgirl outfit! I definitely would never question her skill with a six-shooter!😘
For some reason the pic of her tunneled through the fluff of the cloud like white snow and background of home says it all to me - Love, Gratitude and Blessings to you Joni !
gorgeous with the images.
The first song Joni got paid for. First as a minor hit for George Hamilton IV, then a beautifully performed and recorded version by Tom Rush.
Had to defend my musical preferences while beeing young. My school friends were saying: how can you listen to Janis Joplin AND Joni Mitchell, Beatles AND Rolling Stones, Moody Blues AND Deep Purple..a.s.o... Why? Because they're good,That's it !! Hope you're doing fine and wish you all the best for 2021 !! P.S. l 've ready somewhere that Prince was one of your big fans. That didn't really surprise me .
nice,I LIKE IT😎😎😘👏👏👏
Tom Rush did this song on THE CIRCLE GAME, along with Tin Angel, which helped bring her to everyone's attention as a talented songwriter.
Huh
Consider the lyric in relation to Joni's life at the time. Desolation and perseverance. Gorgeous.
I resonate with this song - seems like every time I think I am staying... I am going... at least she decided to stay instead of go. Hopefully now I stick put a while, and rest in peace someday.
Best there ever was, is, or will be....otherworldly talent and creativity.
So good ..i feel the seasons in my old bones..
I grew up on this song. Thanks Mom and Dad.
Beautiful. Felt it in my soul. Stunned.
Awww...one string is slightly out of tune here!
Baritone ukulele, apparently..........
every june i want to move
I just love Joni
Magic
❤️💙💕
👎👎👎
I listen to Joni often still. I would love to shoot a game of pool with her and talk philosophy of liberty.
