So in the beginning when you go over the basic pattern, is the second part of the basic pattern only the middle finger on fourth string of the second fret? Or do we also have to put our pointer finger on the second string of the second fret?

By the second part I assume you mean
at the pre-chorus. Yes but middle finger goes not on 4th string but on 3rd string 2nd fret. Yes, put your index finger on the second string, second fret. Let me know if that helps!
