I remember playing on a machine that was next to my house. I never went over 2 million points, but a friend from the neighborhood was a pleasure to watch because he almost always reached the end. I remember that near my institute there was also a place that had this machine and applied a trick that I learned. Right before the first big plane that took up the whole screen came out you had to do a loop and the game would crash. Then the owner of the place would return your money because he did not know about the trick.
40 years ago, at the arcade, we would have been losing our sh*t and hailed you as a god! Tell me you're in your 50's :)
Only Japan would make a game where the entire point is to get completely owned by a single American fighter.
Very cool game. I was a child in 1984. Good times.
It was November 30, 1984, and Yoshiki Okamoto conjured this arcade hit that would spawn a WWII-like franchise. Putting capcom on the map!
One of my go-to arcade games at the local skating rink back in the day (Late 80s/Early 90s) Great memories. Thanks for posting.
"We give up!" - what a great kind of reward after one hour of gameplay.
Wow !!!
Looks GREAT for a gane made all the way back in 1942 !!!
🤣🤣
Such a classic 😊 i love it!
Better than the NES port in every way. They even let you know which island you're on, not to mention remind you that Stage 1 is the final one.
No shit
Yea the cabinet was hundreds of dollars new back then lmao
Well yeah arcades we're better then the nes version
Based on real history during WWII (Pacific Theatre):
00:11 Battle of Midway (Midway Islands, USA)
08:10 Battle of Marshall Islands (Marshall Islands, USA)
16:34 Battle of Attu (Attu, Aleutian Islands, Alaska, USA)
24:32 Battle of Rabaul (New Britain, Papua New Guinea)
32:56 Battle of Leyte (Leyte Provinces, Philippine Commonwealth)
40:54 Battle of Saipan (Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, USA)
49:17 Battle of Iwojima (Iwojima, Volcano Islands, Ogasawara, Japan)
57:16 Battle of Okinawa (Ryukyu Islands, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan)
The Battle of Midway got expanded in the 1943 and 1943改 arcade games, and even further with a "fixed" NES/Famicom port of 1943 called 1944.
This pilot became an ace multiple times over before his aircraft carrier left his rearview mirror.
Love the music in this game 😁
I always liked the idea of rescuing a POW who just happened to have 2 fighter jets in his pockets.
I love the ost
He literally broke a record nice job 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤😂😂
*So much nostalgia under an hour.*
insane
I love this game🎉great NENRIKI‼︎
Wonderful game
God
1984 listening to early Slayer and Sodom and playing video games at the local arcade. Terminator came out and blew mine and my older brother's heads off.
When i was young I played a DOS game like that but the colour of airplane was pink. I can't find it. Xan someone help me?
I was one of the few that got to a million plus points in my community.
Capcom games often had amazing soundtracks.
Then there's this game.
Nearly all of the budget for this game went into the gameplay and graphics. The only things they could afford for the music were a malfunctioning drum machine and a coach's whistle. 😄
It's even worse on the NES version. Instead of a repeated coach whistle, it's a repeated smoke alarm/heart ECG!
Is there a way to play this gem in modern W11 PC?
It's so strange to think this game was made only 42 years after the fact. Some WWII vets on both sides were still working-age at the time
The "boss" at 46:50 is (I think) supposed to be a Nakajima G10N. This was a designed but never built Japanese concept for a strategic bomber that would've struck targets in North America. It would've had measurements close to a modern 747 (~150' long, 200'+ wingspan) and carried a substantial bomb load. Given the USA's own troubles with the B-29, it's easy to imagine the G10N would've been way beyond the limit's of Japan's technical know-how and material resources of the time.
I miss this game
I just scrolled to the ending to see if the ending of my NES game did in fact say GAME OVER like I lost even if I did everything to complete it.
While it doesn't seem to be the same game, this one does tell you GAME OVER, too, but with much more fanfare like "congratulations, you lost! Buy our next game to lose even more and more spectacularly!!"
This is the arcade version.
Like both NES and Arcade.
Now that you've tackled 1942, I'm sending you on a myriad of other missions, Soldier!
Play 1943, 1943改, 19XX, and 1944 The Loop Master!
I forgot that there's 1941: The Counterattack, but yes, play that too
Nen is that good, arcade manufacurers pay Nen to play their arcade cabinets.
I remember playing this game on actual arcade cabinets & it used to play a lot faster than in this video getting perfect scores was very hard still a very good game but a lot more difficult than I'd care to remember would i play it again? YES
Hope our next game.
It's funny to remember how this seemed like a pretty advanced game at the time.
Fuckin' good old days 👍
1943 was a banger to
The only boss is a Nakajima G10N Mother Bomber, codename Fugaku. Renzan and Renzan ver.II (Nakajima G8N mother bombers) are smaller mother bombers, and the predecessors of Fugaku.
The best game's part is the ending. Lol
Ace game, remember it well.
i used to play this heavy on my nes.
I always used to get free credits on this and play for a while
In three more years, 1942 (the video game) will be as far back in the past as 1942 (the year) was when this game was released.
I wonder if anyone ever beat the whole thing back then.
Arcade version was total beast mode.
I wonder if Buckeye Bonzai were inspired by this game? At least the autogenerated RUclips description suggest so.
😘🤩🥰
wow 12,521,400 pts!!!!
"Hope our next game..." What? 😮
Should I upload a gameplay from an arcade from an even longer time ago and from an actual galaxy far-far away, you would all faint instantly.
"Hope our next game."
Hope your next game what? WHAT?? /8:O
Детство
I thought this was the Indy 5 film
Benditions
Hi
Final stage no enemy fire, just kamikaze. Interesting.
The Classic is best. Around around look that seriz.
Similar style to Xevious.
The screeching sound is terrible.
This actually made the Guinness Book of World Records for most annoying music of all time.
i love the irony when the japanese game makers put their own country as the devil enemy of the protagonists and depict their own actual former enemy of war as the heroes time and time again.
Japaneses are simps
money
이게 태평양 전쟁 모티브라고 애들이 알란가~;;
This game may have some of Capcom's most irritating music of all time
Wait a minute... This game was made by a Japanese guy?? That's capitalism at its best!
Great game but the music sucks like hell xD
Wow this music is obnoxious
Decent looking shooter but the background music is awful.
😂😂😂😂🌶️. Está muy arreglado!!
Falso
Hope our next game.
