I recall meeting Liberace in 1985. He had recently purchased two adjoining condos at the beach in Malibu -- perched just above the crashing waves. I was working for a furniture store in L.A. and we delivered a bunch of furniture for his "guest condo" next door to his personal condo unit. He invited me into his place to talk about the delivery and to sign the receipt. Unlike the opulent decor of his Hollywood Hills home, his Malibu condos were contemporary and subdued. He introduced me to his dogs and that's when I learned what a "Shar-Pei" is. He explained the history of the Shar-Pei breed, that they were bred as guard dogs for royalty in China. He was just as nice in person as he appears in this video!

Liberace was the man who penned the phrase, "I'm laughing all the way to the bank" which was his response to critics. The world will never see another showman and such talent like him. Today he might well have come out of the closet but his sexuality was never in question by his legions of fans who, like myself, considered it was is own private affair. God bless Liberace

Even if everyone knew, that his private life stayed so private is actually a relief compared to today's stars whose whole lives have to be on display, who have to have an opinion on everything including politics, who have to parade their "charitable" works about in a desperate attempt to stay relevant (perhaps it says something about their talent?).
RUclips has been suggesting Liberace videos, and I can't help but feel the world needs more people who are outgoing, humble, eager to please but also people who don't feel the need to make their private lives a spectacle for the whole world.

You can tell he knows his own house inside out, all the details, where he got each piece, the provenance & work involved in each renovation--his aesthetic was over the top but he presents it with just a very humble pride & love for home.
He actually reminds me a lot of Dolly Parton--over the top & down to earth at the same time, twinkling eyes & a self-deprecating sense of humour, caring & concerned for others, ambitious & driven to achieve, & over all of it this incredible talent & desire to entertain.

I'm 53 now and new from my childhood that Liberace was Gay.
But I always admired him for various reasons.
      1) He never tried to force his choice of lifestyle on anyone.
      2) To call him " Mr. Showmanship " is the Understatement of the Century.
      3) His ability to make everyone feel at ease and give us a look at how he enjoyed collecting things and How he treated and shared his good fortune with his friends truly made him an American Original.

    • @bobbypaluga4346

Jason Wayne Whoa Nellie, Lifestyle Choice??? That’s a slap in the puss to a person you seem to admire, he certainly didn’t choose to be a gay man, he fought any talk of his homosexuality even winning a suit against a London newspaper. He played it straight with a tux the candelabra and a grand piano for some time, then he stopped caring, society was changing and he more or less came out, costumes, a series of much younger “lovers”, and his flourishes. He was truly “born that way” and in reality nobody cares.

      Nobody is born a Homosexual.
Your Gender and race yes .
People love to use that excuse because God Calls Homosexuality an Abomination so they act as if God made them that way so they don't have to feel guilty and are not responsible for their actions .
Please try that sad crap for the weak minded.
No Doctor, Not 1 credible Doctor has ever and I mean EVER found any cause and effect gene or anything in the Human DNA that gives any credence to someone being.

Without doubt Liberace was a virtuoso.
We were blessed to be within his company.
Allowing us to view his home whilst alive, and guided in person by himself, was never something he needed to, or had to do, but for those of us intrigued, it was incredibly generous of him.
His homes (Las Vegas, Palm Springs, and here in the Hollywood Hills, had mirrors, more than perhaps we would have hung, l hope he genuinely enjoyed his reflection, as he would of been able to catch himself often in them.
It would be heartfelt with sadness, if the mirrors re-enforced any negative fears or doubts in his appearance he may have harboured.
To me he appeared to be a gentle soul, generous in his thoughts, and wanting to pass through this life.....Remembered.
    In that, he succeeded.

Lee was such a talent, besides his music he had a wonderful personality....went to,his museum in Las Vegas some years ago, they had costumes he wore and som of his cars, a rhinestone piano, an English taxi...he. Would go to the airport in Vegas and just pick people up and drive them home when he was lonely, he had millions of fans of all ages, even my own grandchildren would watch cds of his acts....in one he would fly in and onto the stage, my grandchildren would love to make believe they were playing the piano, and make believe they were playing on the back of my car seat all the way to church on Sunday mornings, I remember his television show back when I was young, my mom loved him, all 6 of us sitting in our living room.

He lived well, and he deserved to, Liberace is a brilliant musician, and you can see his influence in Elton John and Freddie Mercury, and even Elvis! Who wore extravagant clothing on stage in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Liberace wasn’t interested in fads and trends, you can’t ignore a genius like that.
