I have a fully custom built Standard DJ bike. When S&M comes out with their DJ frame I am definitely getting that. Nothing beats US Made steel bikes...🤘
Is blk mrkt still around? I rode their 2007 mob (made by s&m) for years until I dented the cs. Beautiful, very well made frame. Got a tonic howie v2 after that until my back couldn’t take hardtails anymore.
@Bonky-wonky Nope, they were not around very long. I remember they had a super amazing dual suspension slope style frame also. But the industry wasn't ready for what they were doing and of course their products cost more than the Taiwan made competition.
Nice and thorough test, appreciate it (as a former bmx/dj rider). Next year you could perhaps consider a few dj specific brands to see how they compare to the big brands who have bigger r&d budgets but less experience with this kind of bike. When I rode dj’s I’d only buy rider owned brands.
My Pivot Point was a used frame with a regular Pike (130mm 27,5 with travel change to +-100mm,non boost) I bought very very cheap and put some time to refresh the internals. Cheapest Sram cranks are quite good for the money. The real expensive part to me was lacing some custom wheels, DT 471, Hope pro2 used rear hub in mint condition for 45€,non boost hubs are almost useless today. Got a thru axle for the rear wheel to mount any MTB hub. For my brake I got all the bling possible with a Hope RX4+ caliper paired with any Shimano lever, but I like the most basic mt200 lever cos it is very easy to modulate. Road brake pads from Galfer, those blue one´s works the best IMO with tiny 160mm rotors at any speed and last much longer than MTB pads. Very nice video!!!
Interesting to see absolutely NO Pike DJ's as a stock option! YT Used to do a pike DJ as their stock option on the Old DirtLove and now im wondering why they stopped! I love DJ's and ride a Norco Rampage myself, I would love to see it get some more love because I think that it is probably the most popular DJ in Australia
100% way to have a nice DJ fork is to buy some cheap Pike 130 mm and change the travel.I got mine in mint condition for 130 €. Cheap Sram cranks ans some 471 rims laced to a Second hand Hope pro and a nice dj front hub,you are good to go!
I'm still in the middle of should I get P3 or Dirtlove, I really like them both but leaning towards the P3 but still considering Dirtlove I was looking at how the pro riders (who did prototyping stage) ride their bike. Fedko did the Dirtlove and I already know it will have short wheelbase because on how he setup his bike. Rogatkin the smallest rider who ride P3, ride his P3 with big rotations so I know he setup his bike with stability to gather speed. Godziek was tall enough to accommodate the long geo and make it a playful bike, Hupert was also same.
The bikes that have 10x135 rear hubs with female axels will take an M10 (10mm) bolt, not an 8mm bolt. It might be tightened with an 8mm hex key but that doesn't make it an 8mm bolt. /Pedantry
Their frame only @ $500 on sale is tempting as well. My 10-year-old P3 is feeling tired and lacks the pop that a new frame has, and a Pivot Point would look awesome next to my Evil DOC...The Point ripped their uber-scientific hot lap
it's dirt, but after they shaped, they had a slurry of soiltack and some other stuff that basically glued it together. 5-gallon bucketload by 5-gallon bucketload - pour on the dirt and brush in with a broom. mental, but bombproof! just don't fall : )
Perfect timing i have been strongly thinking of getting a dirt jumper! Im almost 40 arguably broken but grew up bmxing, i have a kona esd i rip around the skate park and pump tracks now but its a dawg. My issue is im 6'5 and im worried everything will feel tiny what do you guys think? The xl transition with rlthe 465 reach seemed smart but the cost of the yt long and maybe a longer stem and bars? Idk haha
I'm 6'2 and had a chance to get on a PBJ large frame and it felt TINY. Like I couldn't ride it. That was on jumps not a pump track. If you Chat GPT hardtails that are good for dirt jumping that might be a better way to go. It gave me some good options.
@se11459 that's what I was worried about just the fit being awkward and fighting the size of the bike but I would like to use it for parks and pump tracks less dirt dumps the honzo esd is sick on the dirt jumps and is comfortable
we have some comments on our site about sizing for large riders - www.vitalmtb.com/features/6-dirt-jumpers-tested-and-compared-vital-mtb-test-sessions#comments - also the specialized p.4 has 27.5-inch wheels and is on sale for $1400 right now. reach is 445 which is pretty darn long in the dirt jump world. could be a happy medium?
@vitalmtb thanks for the response! I checked the site out I think maybe I'm just over thinking how small they are compared to my mountain bikes. I'm thinking I need to go to sapwi jumps and just ask people to stand on their bikes to see haha

DJs and downhill bikes are all need to see
Love my YT Dirt Love don't really foresee me buying anything else any time soon.

Watching this after I ordered a dirtlove

Cant realy call this a comparison without one bike having a pike dj on it😂
Since like 2019 Rose bikes has the best dj bike for the price!
As long has you got a pike, sram cranks and good wheels you’re set in
Above 1k for a manitou is insane!

I wonder what was their favorite bike, and why it was the YT?

/pedantry matters though! thanks for pointing that out
@@vitalmtb 👍
Yall forgot to throw in that $300 Walmart dirt jumper to see how it holds up lol! 😅
It's too bad that none of these bikes have the 34mm Circus, it's a much closer comparison to the Zokes
@Jason how tall are you? I'm 2 meters (6'7") and want to buy/build a dirt jump.
Pivot Point is on sale for $1099USD right now!

Where’s the Marin Alcatraz?
1:01 in the video may help
@ what made you choose those bikes over all the others?
@@vitalmtb Maybe not flashing it by too fast too read would have accomplished the whiny goal you set out for.
Is that a dirt track or like painted concrete?

No Chromag Monk/Signature? They're literally the king of DJ.
Throw a 20" into the mix and compare again, curious to see if anyone would prefer a BMX bike vs a dirt jumper
most of the testers ride a 20 for fun as well.
Test is useless, cuz there is no canyon stitched, rose the bruce, marin alcatraz and propain trickshot
1:01 in the video could help.
@vitalmtb i saw that, im just saying that without them it's useless
There is no "H" in SRAM. It's SRAM not SHRAM for the love of god!
help your own countrymen? nah. Mexico!
Nono, it's not "nah Mexico", it's "New Mexico".
Quit your trumpism, it's about bikes ;)
