Since this is a business channel, I think myself and many other viewers would gain a lot of value If you did a detailed video showcasing, how you do your bookkeeping. (Cost of goods, sales, expenses, tax.)

the main problem is that alot of stuff people used to put out at garage sales they put on Facebook marketplace. FB Marketplace has absolutely done a huge number on yard sales and it will only get worse, garage sales will decline and you’ll see less every year, especially as old generations phase out, younger people have a way better idea of value of things and how to look stuff up. Many years from now garage sales and thrift stores will be a thing of the past mostly. I feel like this doesn’t get talked about enough. But we need to be prepared for that.

Have you ever considered going into estate sales? As in running them? You have the employees, experience, and business mindset.
Ive been slowly considering that as an option myself no inventory needed. No cost other than time. And you just get a garaunteed % of sales. I assumed it was 25-30% but recently heard 45-50% is common.

  • @jimteja

You absolutely can make a full time living doing this without ever leaving level 1, but it completely depends on what you're willing to sell, how skilled you are at sourcing (between developing an eye for age, value, and uniqueness and being able to process and utilize data), how well you utilize technology to streamline your processes, and what your work ethic is like. I personally do about $250K annually with around 60-65% of that being profit. Additionally, I source about 90% of my inventory from the same thrift store from a daily 2 hour visit. I'm able to do this because I sell in a wide variety of categories and I invest a ton of time into market research. While the video game sellers and vintage tee sellers are storming out complaining about how everything is rigged against them because no 80s Metallica shirts are there and the sole video game item is an $80 NES, I'm usually walking out with hundreds of dollars in profit because I don't have tunnel vision and don't just walk passed the vintage glassware, women's clothing, and small appliances.
If somebody just wants to sell video games and not move beyond yard sales and thrift stores, then it's going to be very tough and I'd argue impossible. Those days are long gone. Not only is that market extremely competitive, but you're competing with EVERYONE and not just other sellers that only sell games. Shit, the days of starting FBMP for video games are also ending. In fact, every successful video game seller that I know is making their living with private buys from posting ads or buying from a middleman or actual wholesaler and switching over to a volume-based model for a much lower ROI per unit. Someone with a large social media following is obviously going to get occasional opportunities that a regular person won't, so I'm not going to add that to the equation since most people will never have that.

The reason they continue buying stuff is because 1. A lot of the stock he has is slower selling/listing leftovers from the giant buys 2. He creates youtube content and just showing them going through all that stuff would end up getting boring 3. Running on multiple platforms helps diversify so that say a massive change comes down from ebay or amazon they have another channel they are already setup and running which selling on said platforms requires fresh stock of desirable items. As far as whatnot, they have been been using it to dump games that are harder for them specifically to sell profitably in giant lots or selling random pieces and it helps build up his other reselling channels plus youtube viewership.
