- In this prelude to the television series, "The Raccoons," Bert, Melissa and Ralph Raccoon have their home stolen when Dan The Ranger mistakenly cuts down their home for a Christmas tree. Eventually, they discover that a mysterious lumber baron, Cyril Sneer, is the mastermind behind the deforestation of the Evergreen Forest and they confront him and his son, Cedric who eventually relents. In a dream sequence, the Raccoons appear to Tommy and Julie, and they begin to realize that they've done wrong in cutting down their home. They rectify the situation and proceed to enjoy the Christmas holiday with their dad, Dan the Forest Ranger.
The Christmas Raccoons was the #1 Syndicated Special in the United States in 1980. It also aired on Canada’s CBC, the UK’s BBC, and many other countries around the world.

A Canadian Christmas classic.
We had several Christmas specials on VHS when I was little and this was one of them
Same!
Same!
It was this the Smurf movie, the Star Wars Christmas and the he man Christmas as well as Santa Clause the movie, what a great time to be a kid
The time fly so fast
Same, want to see it in norwegian, it will bring back even more memories!❤
Best quality version I've seen. Loved this as a kid.
Absolutely *love* how hysterically over the top Cyril Sneer is in this. Totally evil character when I was a kid, but as an adult, he's a riot.
I wasn’t sure if this would be available to watch
thank god it is!!
It is exactly what I needed to remind me of the spirit
nostalgic Christmas feeling
There is an even more pristine version on the Roku channel. Only it cuts off some of the top and bottom of the picture.
Love it today as much as I did when it first was on TV when I was 8 years old.
All dogs that look like this to me I always call Schaeffer. My whole life, childhood to adulthood! Thanks to this movie. LOL
I tend to call rough collies Lassie dogs.
@@eleanorhogan8643 I do, too! 😆
@@carissa4110 Nice one.
I get nostalgic about this video every now and then and only used to find copies with poor AV quality. I’m thrilled this one has been uploaded! I used to watch it every Christmas as a kid! 🥰
The Christmas Raccoons was the last special watched Christmas Eve with my mom Treva she died 9 years ago this Christmas 🎄 She loved Christmas 🎄 and ❤️ dressing me up as one of the raccoons Bert raccoon and Ralph Raccoon. I ❤️ Treva and I miss her so much .
I grew up with this movie on VHS and watched it to bits. I now have a kid of my own and definitely will be showing her this and many other favorites of my childhood.
I remember watching this years ago in the early 1990’s with my family. We had it on VHS for several years, from taping it off TV and many other Christmas specials. Great to watch it again on here!
Carl Banas, "Sheaffer" is 94 and still going strong.
Great Canadian cartoon loved the racoons.
The start of our favourite beloved woodland creatures
I like that face Melissa did at 10:03-10:04. It's like stuff I have seen in cartoons from my boyhood. Also Melissa is cute and I like her pink sweater.
@Jamal Wheat she is a pretty lady raccoon and she has pretty blue eyes
Loved the racoons ❤
In case others here dont know,Kevin Gillis and "Run With Us" productions have remastered and rescanned these specials and the entire tv series from the original camera negatives in high definition. They will be selling the blurays in 2023. If you search youtube you can watch the remastered opening to see the difference.
Also with 100% less John Schneider!!!!
Yaaaaa! I wish I had this on dvd but glad it’s here!
Hard to believe this was 43 years ago now! Even though this was released in 1980 is was produced in 1979 and looks and sounds like a 70's show.
Thank you for reposting this!! A+++++. 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Thanks you so much for uploading this ❤️
There’s also a special called the raccoons on ice
Thanks for this upload
Childhood memories watching The Raccoons, bliss
Amazing nostalgia, like Fraggle Rock and other classics.
God Bless you for this ❤️
Looks like 70's Nelvana art style. (A Cosmic Christmas (1977))
It came out in 1980, which is probably why it looks more 1970s then a 1980s cartoon.
Still looks nice though.
@beauwalker9820 I consider that a huge plus. It looks, and sounds like a 70's cartoon because it basically is. 1960 looked the same as the late 1950's. Things don't just change magically in one year. The character designs for this were really good. I sure hope they don't attempt to remake this show and change their designs or the personality and writing. Some things are timeless.
HOLY COW YOU’RE BACK FINALLY ok time to calm down I’m glad you’re back run with us productions I don’t mind you uploading other stuff but can you upload more miss bg episodes like I said I don’t mind you uploading other stuff by the way welcome back to RUclips stay safe and stay awesome peace out :)
This show had a great cast of voice actors,Michael Magee,Bobby Dermer,Len Carlson and of course the veteran voice actor Carl Banas. all would reprise these roles throughout the run of "The Raccoons. Fred Little provides Cedrics voice here. He would later be replaced by Marvin Goldhar, who sounded very much like this.
Merry retrospective christmas 🎁🎄🎅

😺👍
The good stuff.
RIGHT IN THE FEELS....
If I remember correctly, the bits of animation at 12:00 and 23:36 were done by Stephen Weston and Robin White, the same pair of animators who did the flying sequences in 'The Snowman'.
It certainly looks like their handiwork.
Parodied in those IRN-BRU ads, IRN-BRU, you owe us Snowman and kid vs. Santa!
Wow I could never remember what this was called… yeah nice flashback!

She is cute
@@RingoandCarlin glad to hear it
I'm her #1 Fan :-) :-)

I used to LOVE the raccoons as a kid
What was this, the fist episode?
It was the first time they appeared
Yes. This is the very beginning
Technically yes, before the series. :)
Were they trying to compete with Nelvana Studios?
@Jamal Wheat NO COMPETITION. NELVANA SMOKES 'EM.
I can compare the audio to a Hotel Mario Cutscene.
Spoiler technically this takes place on Festivus.

Always hated this show because of the weird noses that are bent in 90 degree angles.. Even Bert has an oddly shaped nose that’s unlike the other raccoons. I could never get over it as a child and it still bothers me to this day.
Cool! I did not know "The Raccoons" existed before 1985.
I didn't know anything about the Raccoons until 1986. My aunt taped Raccoons and the Lost Star. It aired on NBC.
This was the first TV movie of the Raccoons..where they started
The specials were so popular, audiences loved them..so Kevin Gillis decided to turn it into a full series
Same,@@bradjames891 . Only I saw LS the year it premiered.
