wow aii was really difficult, have not seen a question like this! reminds me of dimer questions, would that molecule be considered a dimer or is it just a cyclic molecule?
For part aii, could you not have the molecule of 258 mass be the cyclic one of 129 mass but with another glutamic acid forming an amide bond with the other carboxylic acid group?

why would methyl not be a functional group in polymer J?

It's actually a cyclic dimer :)

Only need brackets for equations
