    Looks like a chunky, determined mother squirrel. They're a pain in the ass but always fun for a nice laugh as well.

    I used to have a squirrel that always got stuck in my squirrel proof bird feeder. When that happened I would go outside with my closed umbrella and stick it in the squirrel's face causing it to squirm and hiss until he freed himself. The feeder was tube shaped with a large cage around it. Most of the squirrels didn't try to get into the feeder. One of them did, and was successful. I couldn't disassemble the feeder easily. I would simply make the squirrel squirm until he got himself free and amuse myself at the same time.

    That's hilarious
    Unfortunately hawks got most the squirrels near me. I used to have a dozen of them around. Now, there might be two

      We have one white squirrel. I think they aren't visible to hawks on their color/heat spectrum. It can't hide...and yet it can't die.

      This one has lasted years and been ripped apart by raccoons and black bears more than once. I've taped it, wired it, used bits and pieces off another of the same that was destroyed by critters & it's the best bang for the buck at $35.
      When new, no squirrel can get in.
      And cheap enough if I forget to pull it down before dusk that I can buy another and keep bits of it for repairing the next one. I've had maybe 4 of this in 12 years.

    - DID IT EVER TRY THAT AGAIN ??

      The squirrels are psychotic. Gnaw on anything and everything. This feeder is one of 3 of the same feeder that have been all ripped apart and rebuilt multiple times. I'd buy the spinning motor version but black bears find it randomly.
      After this episode, I ran hobby wire through the lid. They can't eat the metal. But they've started gnawing holes around it.
      Feeder #4 is gonna come sooner than later

    How the heck did it lift the top lid to get in there? I have a similar type of feeder.

    • @butchgreene
      @butchgreene  Месяц назад

      Not sure. They pop the lid edge and gnaw the plastic above where the hinge hooks in the top. I've got hobby wire preventing it currently.

      Takes at least a half dozen to make good squirrel gravy. Besides...all our squirrels would taste like cracked corn & sunflower.

    I'm not trolling or reptorting here, but squirrels think tons fast. That and being already scared, now with an unknown giant human who may or not kill. The lid was in the way because it was angled, so wedged in the metal handle :) it had every reason to exit so I'm sure you didn't shake to provoke but fear that was the effect. No biggie but shaking wouldn't have freed it and would just scare more. Again, I acknowledge not your intent but my response should it happen again :) :)

      I 100% shook it to mess with it. Tree rats. Wife loves them. I tolerate them. Never torture them. They do that to each other. We have over a dozen different ones throughout the day & they are battle scarred. Have multiple with missing ears, 1 with a gouged out eye...which is actually my favorite b/c it's apparently deaf too. I can walk up right beside it on it's blind side. Or it knows I'm not gonna kill it.
