This episode used to scare the bejesus out of me when I was a kid. Thanks a lot Malcom McDowell. But I loved it all the same...it truly was ahead of its time.
This seems to be a typical Malcolm McDowell role. He often plays the bad guy, who appears to be good, but is very sneaky. His role in Law and Order Criminal Intent, Mr. Slaughter, really reminds me of his role here.
Wow. So this was back in the early 80s? The wolf sure looks funny in this show. And who would have guessed he used to be in a pack? Its interesting that Red's actual name is "Marry".
The original story doesn't always have a wolf(or even a red hood). But yes, in the original story the bad-boy wolf is able to talk his way into her good graces, and the original story is talking about the kind of wolf that can get you into "trouble" if you let him in. The red hood symbolizes puberty, so the girl can get pregnant. A woman pregnant out of wedlock was outcast in those days, so obviously it was a very bad thing. Its a warning not to be alone with men after pubety.
you mean like the version of Rapunzel where Rapunzel has twin babies? Or an early version of Sleeping Beauty called: Taila, Sun, and Moon, where Talia has twin babies? Since neither of them were married to the babies' father (and Talia was asleep due to flax, when it happened)
During this Faerie Tale Theatre story, in real life she was about 29 or 30 years old back then but, I guess for the story she is pretending to be a teenager.
because of rules? I mean even in Once Upon a Time they still have to follow rules about child actors because of Henry, Emma's Child. I mean the plot eposide of Season 1? Well when they shot it, they only had enough time to do Henry's talking before he had to leave. Working with adults is a lot easier, because they don't have to wory about schooling, etc.
I think this one is about rape. The wolf wouldn't stop following little red riding hood, as if her red hood was inviting him. The wolf was all scary. The funny part was the old lady who put a gun at him. So they crawled out of his stomach, when it was cut in the end. The actress was cool, I remember her in the 80s.
The wolf in this version is so dimwitted and just...blah. The orginal story portrays the wolf character as crafty, charismatic. hes suppose to be like the Bad Boy girls fall for, only he doesnt secretly have a heart of gold, just more Bad.
Child my ass...Why couldn't they cast an actual child? I know she usually plays a part in these tales but still. Oh well, this might still be entertaining.
This series is the best. Each episode is filled with great actors.
3:17 just one thing to know is that there was a "Little Green Riding Hood", in fact, Sesame Street did it in the Season 25 (1993) premiere!
RIP Frances Bay, who played Granny! :( She died on Thursday.

"I want to grow, I just don't know how. I have limited experience." This stuff is so sinister... LOVE IT!!! XD

My favorite part was when he found the path just as interesting as when he setup to be like home

Man, John Vernon always plays the most uptight characters!
shelley!!! I love her. :)
I didn't know there were any Aussie wolves LOL!
Mary Steenburgen was in Back to the Future part 3.
She played Clara Clayton.

the lady playing Red Riding Hood, is WAY to old to play a child! OMG!

He's a rogue wolf.
Heeeeeeeey! The dad is Officer Mooney, from Killer Clowns from Outer Space!
@KNSweetness Yes, Malcolm narrates the story.
is malcolm mcdowell also the narrator?

hahhaahahhaahahha 3:36 'uhhhh i'm uhh naked!'
and then randomly singing 'for she's a jolly good fellow!'
grandma's crazy!!
yea, but if you watch the whole thing, it makes sense that she's a little older than in the original story.
i always loved this one. however i just noticed how it seems a bit weird that mary isnt a little girl like most red riding hood tales show her to be
The wolf walks like a chicken.
You mean British. Malcolm McDowell was perfect for this. It kinda reminds me of Clockwork Orange.
How old is Mary suppose to be?
During this Faerie Tale Theatre story, in real life she was about 29 or 30 years old back then but, I guess for the story she is pretending to be a teenager.
@entertainer1987 And John Vernon (The dad), who died a few years ago.
@JackieBorelli Yeah, this Wolf seems more funny than scary.
is it just me or does the wolf seem british
Granny is a drinker!
@hunnykun101 I think she's in it because she was married to Malcolm Mcdowell.

just because the girl is in pigtails doesm't mean she's a child....i mean seriously

Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen were married in real life, y'know. :)
