Regarding Swap Force requiring newer portals, while they did state it was because of the complexity for reading Swap Force figures, that's not entirely true however. In Superchargers and Imaginators, you can use the rune portals with those games and they're able to read Swap Force figures like normal. Another interesting fact is that the bluetooth rune portal that came included with Skylanders Battlegrounds Starter Pack, also worked with Swap Force figures for the mobile game. So basically, this would be considered false advertising on Activisions/Toys For Bob
While it is true that the Rune portals can read SWAP Force figures perfectly fine, they cannot read 2 SWAP Force figures at the same time (4 if you count the top and bottom parts having RFID chips) due to the limitation of only being able to read 3 items at a time, instead of the portal being able to read up to 5 figures (top and bottom swappable characters for 2 players + magic item) like the SWAP Force portal.

So I guess the newer portals were necessities after all, if one were to use two Swap Force figures and one magic item. I stand corrected. I guess I'll have to update my previous contribution on the Wiki then

Yeah. I know they also made that “variant” portal but I think you can remove the cover to expose the trap slot (so I have heard). Everything here still applies. I made this video mainly for confusion when choosing portals for certain systems and games. Good info though and important to consider. 👍
dug up my old ssa portal from back in the day, and it still had the original batteries in it with a little bit of life left (and not leaking). man all those years those batteries were in the portal from the beginning of skylanders till now

I don't really like the Superchargers portal from a design standpoint but I get why they did that. No lights or anything because the portal network is shut down, so we have to use the vehicle rift engines instead - this portal is more like a runway for them to use than an actual portal

My swap force portal has this thing where the green light just stopped showing up even when I put a Life Element Skylander on it but I works perfectly fine, I don't know how it happened though
I use the Rift Engine from the ps3 version on dolphin emulator to my PC, it works the best for syncing when I play the first 3 games, but for Trap Team I have to use my traptanium portal and I got issue often that my character progress doesn’t save all the time after removing the Skylander from the portal, and It won’t read the Skylander and I have to unplug the portal, could be that my portal is broken or it might not like the port to my PC 🤷♂️
I do have Spyro set (wii version) with portal and everithing. But my i'm having some trouble to use my portal (spyro version portal) in the game Superchargers. The races on game iniciate just fine with one skylander +vehicle but during the gameplay the portal keeps failing and iniciating the reeding of skylander on it. What could be? Ps: In the spyro Game the portal works just fine. Ps2: it is a wifi model portal
Could be a bad connection over wireless. I do think early portals are worse at connecting to multiple figures that’s why Swap Force probably needed a new portal.
I think that the trap team portal for Xbox 360 works for ps5 because when I plugged it in it lighted up and I tested giants and a lightcore and it worked,I don’t have the game so I don’t fully know.
The lights will come on in the figures because the electromagnetic currents are triggered (try plugging the portal into a phone charger usb and you should get the same results) but there is some encryption on Xbox portals rendering them unusable on other systems.

Yes you can. The only thing is I have heard that it does have a limit of how many characters it can store. It’s a pretty high number though. Like 300+. I can’t personally confirm this though.
well, my traptanium portal doesn’t work. Its noz because of the skylanders, I put the usb right in and its compatible with wii and there is no metal near by. Its shown that the portal is connected but just dont read the skylanders
I think the problem you run into playing giants on PS4 is that they didn’t make a Skylanders giants for ps4. Ps4s are not backwards compatible either :/
So what I'm guessing the portals I need to fully play the entire series is usb slot 3ds portal and a traptanium portal to fully play the entire series.
The minimum amount of portals you need is one Traptanium (works with all console games) and one Mini Arch portal (works with all of the 3ds games). I will make a video about the 3ds portals eventually.

The best place is to check local listings on Craigslist or Facebook. People let Skylander stuff go really cheap outside of places like eBay or Amazon. Also check local video game or resale shops.

This is kind of a trick question. I had to do some research but currently Spyro’s Adventure for Xbox 360 will not play on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X. So it doesn’t really matter atm.

I think the Traptanium portal can be finicky in general. When I use it with my regular game it acts up on occasions.
