I suppose it would depend on the distance. I watched documentary talking about it. True, at close distance those flat shots were the most deadly ones as the arrow speed and piercing power was the biggest, but if you plan to shoot a knight over 100 yards away, you either shoot parabolic or you have 300lbs bow and strength to draw it ;)
He has the patter but, sadly, there's a bit too much patter and rather too little shooting and history. But then comparison to Kevin Hicks is unfair as he was/is (watch his channel) a great archer.
I agree, far too much patter and quite close targets compared to Kev's 90 yards across the river. I just kept wishing he would get on with it and in the end the video just stopped before we got to see him hit the helmet. I shoot longbows and even I could have hit the helmet at that distance!! Dave.
Kevin Hicks he ain't. If he got paid per hit, he'd be very poor indeed. Kevin would probably have hit 9 out of 10 shots. This guy isn't as funny or as convincing either.
Wow he sucks. As both an archer and a presenter. As much as I love the English Long Bow, I couldn't watch the whole thing. And why did he have to keep walking back for an arrow? Shoot from where the arrows are or set up the arrows where youre going to shoot from. I guess it's no surprise there are only 4 thousand views....
I agree. This guy is nowhere near the skill level as Kevin Hicks. Also, his lecture on how medieval archers usually shoot up instead of flat is also largely false. Seems like they just handed him a bow and a pamphlet and told him “go on then”. Because 65# isn’t even that heavy, certainly not compared to the 90# that Kevin would shoot and not to mention the level of accuracy he shot it with.
@@garrettevans8863 and that's 65# or 70# at full draw to it's tillered drawlength. It looked like he wasn't drawing that much past 30 or 35# which is why the arrow speed was so low.
The arrows are lobbing through the air. Whatever the draw weight, he's only putting 15 or 20 pounds into it. My 65 pound compound bow makes the arrows sizzle. A 120 pound bow would be almost too fast to see.
I was horrified by this archer's technique. The first rule for consistent longbow shooting is not to move your feet between shots - you should take a stance on the shooting line with an imaginary line passing through your shoulders straight to the target, with your arrows in your belt or stuck into the ground within easy reach. The string should be brought back to exactly the same point for every shot and the feet should be firmly rooted to the same spot, only moved slightly to correct for any initial sideways drift. The target is much too close, resulting in him "plinking" (not drawing to full draw). He gets 1 out of 10 from me.
Oh be quiet. This guy is very entertaining and very knowledgeable about medieval history. And not all bowmen are Robin Hood. The fact he isn’t bang on accurate every time makes it even better.
He sounds like the guy who would teach you in the tutorial of a first person sword fighting medival game.
Medieval archers did not shoot up in the air but at the target. It was just as effective bringing the Knights horse down as the knight.

Dave.
Send for Kevin Hicks, the original Warwick Bowman!
Ich hätte die Pfeile noch weiter weg gestellt. 🏹............................🚶♂️

some big shoes to fill. he wil probably get better and better at this as the years progress like Hicks did

He probably does this all day long so maybe that's why but hes not pulling to full draw at all. Maybe a little over half draw. It's strange to see

he ain't strong enough to pull a #75 is all, he has poor form too, no wat he pulls anything over 60# to 31-32" with these half-ass motions
He Doesnt shoot as many arrows and Hicks. That bow is prob 30-40lb not 70lb.
Bring back Kevin hicks !
Lives in Canada now. A great loss to this country! But at least he has a very interesting RUclips channel!
He's either unbelievably strong or that bow has the draw weight of a feather
tbf 65 pounds for an english warbow is unheard of, most would have been 100-170 pounds

I thought he was joking and was hit all of the last five in the bulls eye 🤦♂️
Is he drunk?

Maybe for an Olympic style recurve bow. Longbow style is different, watch Joe Gibbs.
Why not use one that can shoot. worst shooting II"ve seen in a long time. Embarrassing

Awful
