Thank you Chad for this tutorial I've watched it twice now because after the first time I shaved for the first time with a DE safety razor and chewed my head up; so here I am again! After watching the second time I know where I messed up. I didn't "ride the cap" and I went too fast! I'm coming off the Schick Quattro 5 and I really liked that razor but to get "smooth as glass" always caused irritation so I decided to give the de razor a try. Plus those cartridges are too pricey! I'm sure it will take me time to get as proficient as you and Mark Szorady (I've watched his videos too), but I really want to learn. It seems to me that when done right shaving turns into an experience to look forward to instead of a chore you loathe. So I'm learning about razors, blades, shaving soaps, aftershaves, and how to shave all over again to create my own experience worthy of looking forward to. I'm only one day removed from chewing the heck out of my head so I want to wait a good 2 or three days more for my noggin to heal and then I'll try and correct my mistakes. In the meantime I'll watch some more videos so that I may come to the sink more prepared next time. Heck I may even set up this video to watch and shave along. *THANKS AGAIN!* You make it look so easy/effortless and I hope to reach your level in the near future!
Try the Henson AL13 mild version. It’s very smooth and is good for a nick-free shave. The angle of the shave is designed into the razor cap. It’s arguably the best razor for someone transitioning from cartridge shavers.
A hint for less irritation for people with sensitive skin. I don't use shaving creams or gels but buy Tea Tree conditioner and use that both for my face and my head. It's unbelievable. Leaves the skin feeling fresh and rash free especially for those of us shaving our heads. Highly recommended! PS: Yes, I've said this elsewhere and it's because I think it's good sharing advice to help each other out.
Yup. Conditioner is great. Good conditioner though. Been using it for shaving for 20 years. Combine that with a good safety/butterfly razor with good blades and irritation and bumps are a thing of the past
Thanks for the video. Within 8 hours of shaving, my dome is ridiculously greasy and oily. I moisturize regularly and don't often use shampoo or hot showers. Any other suggestions to deal with oily scalp?
Hi man! I just found out your channel and I have been watching your videos. I see that you shave your hade even with aggressive razors but I have a big problem. I tried Muhle r42, Rockwell 6c and a basic king gillet. Every time I shave my head with all of them, in the back of it I got a lot of red spots and dots, and I feel most of my head kinda of “ burning “ may j ask you what does it depends from? On the back of the head I usually go also against the grain like from the neck to the center of the head am I doing wrong ? Thanks in advice for the help!
Hey man question been shaving my head for few years, I tried dollar shave & now Harry’s. They work ok but do you recommend a straight razor like the one your using or those? I have sensitive skin too
bist du deutsch ? the razor itself is secondary the razorblades and the foam/cream/lotion for shaving are more important. i ordered japanese razorblades online and iam using "arko" shaving cream that works for me. you can also get less irritation by using hot water on your head either by showeing or wrapping up your head with a soaked hot towel be careful not to burn yourself this will relax your skin and open pores and increase the bloodflow of the skin
Hey man, thanks for this! I have a Head Blade S4 Moto and it does a great job but the cartridges are so expensive, so I’m wanting to move to using my safety razor for my head and not just my face. I’ve used it on my head 2 or 3 times and had issues both times. Thanks for the pointers! Quick question: is there a recommended way to tan the head? Thanks again!
Hey, do you really have a blade in that razor, LOL? I nicked myself the first second when trying to shave my head with my DE. Yes, alum block is essential. Thanks.
Funny, I did this for the first time today, and did a long Stoke on the back of my head... And yes... Cut myself haha wishing I did the short strokes, I'll live.
How long did it take you when you started off using a DE razor on your head? I'm new to wet shaving and I've only done it 4-5 times. I've gotten better at shaving the beard, but I always end up cutting myself when I shave the head. The last time was quite bad - I spent 2.5 hours trying to get rid of all the hair on the head and I still had some left (used to take me 45 mins with a cartridge razor). Also, how often do you shave your head?
Hi, if I use a disposable shaver it's usually BIC Sensitive double bladed. I soak the head with a face cloth then apply Tea Tree Conditioner and first shave with the grain then against. Hardly ever cut myself on the head or face with this method. If I use a Safety Razor I'll use a closed comb one that's mild. Best to use a mild blade as well but I have also used the Feather blade but they are probably the sharpest out there so caution needs to be applied (slow shave with no downward pressure). Preparation is the same as mentioned above (head and face). But I would recommend a less sharp blade as the Feather can take time to get used to. Some people recommend the Personna blade and they can be had cheap from eBay (100 pcs for circa $25). I want to try them myself. Having said that, the Feather blades are high quality but extremely sharp. I prefer a less sharpish blade as I have bumps that if I'm not careful will get cut. My last head shave with the Feather I only had one small nick. But nicks on the head really bleed. Good luck and try the Safety Razor if you can as it's better on the skin with less irritation and no ingrown hairs.
@@NorsePJ Hi, since the time I'd written the comment, I've gotten much better. I still get some random nick every now and then, but for the most part, it's all good. I'm now understanding the along, across, against the grain shaving. Still a lot more room for improvement, but I'm no longer discouraged by all the nicks and cuts. I'm using the Bombay Shaving Company DE razor. I've been using feather blades from the time I started using a DE razor and it's fine, although I still haven't gotten around to dealing with ingrown hairs. I've started exfoliating before shaving and there seems to be an improvement. Hopefully, it'll get better with time. Also, for dealing with razor burn, an aftershave with witch hazel seems to work really well. Thank you for taking the time to give advise to us noobs.
@@suhaaskaravadi9112 sounds good. I forgot to mention that for me I like to shave every second or third day especially if doing the head. The shorter the hair the less trouble. It's just harder when your skin isn't perfectly flat. Cheers mate!
Great shine on your noggin sir. I love it!

Yeah, I nicked myself the first second I tried shaving my head with my DE, even though I'm good with my face.
Best demo on RUclips by far.
Loving these videos !
Nice shave Chad!
Great head shape, comrade. I'm personally a Feather fanboy
i love the perma sharp blades

Super helpful video, thank you!

Points I picked up, go SLOW your first time doing it, feather strokes. Great video man 👍
nice video! is that only witch hazel in the Jackys bottle or have you more stuff in it?

guys, do you use it before shaving or as an aftershave?

no shampoo or harsh soaps, treat it like the rest of your face; Also: change/wash your pillowcases more often; give it some time, it’ll settle down
what shaving cream/soap and brush is used?
I’m using the supply razor and I keep kicking myself. Any suggestions?
Que maravilla, así lo uso yo

@@NorsePJ Makes sense! I too have been planning to follow a similar schedule. Clean just looks and feels much better than a bit of scruff
It took me less than 10 minutes when I first started using a DE razor
Personally, I prefer shave butter from dollar shave club.
Safety razors are too risky, best use an electric shaver or a cartridge blade.
I hardly saw any hair on you to begin with.
