The Xbox 360 is considered retro now; the original Xbox must be like a Pong machine to my kids, and Oregon Trail probably feels like something a Denisovan would have flintknapped. Man, I feel ancient... and also, I want these ornaments!
I'm old, but I think everything from Dreamcast and later is pretty comparable. Graphics were pretty decent and controllers are basically the same. Especially the Xbox and PS2 controllers.
About 6 or 7 years ago, I stumbled upon the Ripley in a Power Loader ornaments on cleanace from Hallmark. I bought 3 of them. I gave one to a buddy of mine for Christmas, as hes a MASSIVE 80s action film buff. He was over the moon. They have since trippled in value for what I paid for them, but I just love the amazing attention to detail on them and the powerloader was far and away my favorite part of those films when I was a kid, who was obsessed with mechs and tractors and the like, so I could never bring myself to sell them!
A bit of a warning, you'll want to take those batteries out when you're done with the ornaments. They're standard across pretty much all Hallmark ornaments (there are a few that still plug into sockets), but they also have a tendency to explode, even when not in use. I have a Hallmark ornament of the Ecto-1, and it lights up and plays the siren noise when you turn it on. I put it away for the year, thankfully taking the batteries out before putting it away, and when I reopened it the next year the batteries were broken open. Thankfully, there's no goo or anything, but it's still pretty messy.
Yes those button or coin cell batteries are horrible. We brought a large packet of them which had all sorts of sizes thinking it would be handy to have whatever size we needed on hand depending on the device. We ended up having to throw most of them out as within a year they started to corrode and become unusable. Admittedly they were some cheap brand so probably not the best quality, but chances are these ornaments and many other devices which come with them prepackaged would be of the same quality to keep costs down.
Hi Clint, have watched your videos for years and I really am enjoying the recent renaissance of shorter videos about lots of little interesting things! Thanks for all you do!
My favorite toy I've bought is this tiny tv by a small company called Tiny Circuits. Their whole gimmick is tiny electronics, and they've even got a miniature game console called Thumby. Their tiny TVs have an internal micro sd and you can just load them up with whatever you want, after running the videos through their converter. They even have a functional remote!
My mom used to get the Hallmark Star Trek ornament each year. Some of them were pretty simple like a Klingon Warbird or one of the enterprises, but others were specific scenes from an episode. She has one that is a shirtless Takei wielding a foil rapier. I think it used to just be one ornament a year but they were popular so they started coming out with several each year. They were always different as well so they hit that fomo just right.
Dude, I've seen those at the Hallmark store this year! I got my sister the Golden Girls Cheesecake TV one. They have a lot of nice ornaments there! I just remembered, we have the Super Nintendo one we got from last year (or 2 years ago?). It's cool!
SMH…. Thanks Clint!! I had forgotten about Hallmark making these! (I already have the NES and Controller ornaments)….now I just bought $400 worth of more ornaments!! Walmart actually has Dreamcast ornaments but almost sold out!
"You have died of dysentery" is actually how I felt when I watched one of these Hallmark Christmas movies. Still kudos to them for their sense of humor. It was the first time that I saw a Christmas ornament mentioning death by dysentery.
Clint, thank you for keeping the videos coming despite all the issues with the house. You've brought joy to this user and the Internet world for the past 10+ years.
My grandmother always got me hallmark ornaments of early airplanes every year. You know that weird feeling of seeing Nick at Nite playing shows that premiered after Nick At Nite existed? I get that from these gamer ornaments. Cool but man I feel old now.
My brother was talking about the Xbox one and I pointed out to him that him buying one of them was basically the same time displacement as our dad’s original series trek ones he’d gotten from hallmark in the mid ‘90s. Neither one of us much appreciated that factoid.
It is SO weird how 80s and 90s TV shows and films are the ones being shown on the "golden oldies" channels now. I still think they should be showing 50s and 60s ones >.> but then, to my grandma even the 60s stuff was "modern rubbish", she was only interested in the 30s, 40s, and 50s media!
Went to the supermarket today and they had a display for Hallmark. Picked up the Sonic 1 cart and NES controller ornaments. They'll go nice with the Sonic and Dreamcast ornaments I got last year.
I have a Galaga cabinet ornament that I think is from Hallmark as well. Lights up and plays the startup sounds and a bit of the first level. I might have to that CRT too!
I saw this and immediately ran to their website. Unfortunately the Oregon Trail is sold out, but I bought the Super Nintendo! I almost bought the original NES instead, but I just loved that the Super NES plays music from Super Mario World.
the oddest thanks goes out to you and this video from me... a random pack of button cell batteries materialized in my house weeks ago, and no one could figure out what they belonged to. watching your video I realized they came with one of our hallmark ornaments we got a few weeks ago
I've gotten several novelty ornaments from hallmark over the years, mostly airplanes and stuff. They've always been a bit pricey ($15-$20) but always well made and detailed. That OG Xbox is a beauty.
Say what you will about Hallmark, they did a great job with these ornaments. You can feel that someone put some thought into these. I got the Dreamcast one last year and it's great.
I went to Hallmark for some cards and ended up getting the big ass Sonic, the Xbox and Genesis cart. Got the Dreamcast one last year. Now my tree is just covered in gaming ornaments 😂
I would absolutely have loved a PS1 or PS2 hallmark Christmas ornament especially since this is Playstation's 30th anniversary. But alas, we missed the moment. Still having a PS1 that plays the iconic start-up sound. That'd have been priceless.
These are pretty neat! I have the Xbox, Genesis and Dreamcast ornaments. Also Tails flying with Sonic, a separate Sonic, Mario flying in his tanookie suit and a custom Kirby in the snow scene ornament in honor of my sister (Kirby was her favorite). Luckily, my wife likes this stuff too. They all go well with our Super Mario Power Star tree topper lol
I haven't put up any ornaments or a tree in over a decade, but if I had a collection of stuff like this I'd totally get a tree and decorate it. Those are awesome!
Those Hallmark ornaments are very cool looking and especially the game systems like Xbox and SNES ones! I have few Disney keepsake ornaments like Toy Story, they play music!
I've been getting Hallmark ornaments here in Au, there's been a bit of a surge in them lately. ALDI carried them and I've seen them at EB Games as well. My partner is obsessed with the movies.
This reminds me of his hilarious Oregon Trail video where he named a character Nobody/No One so when a character died it would say Nobody/No One died. I rolled around laughing at this. Clint has done several Oregon Trail videos across his RUclips channels so I'm not sure which one it was.
I’ve had the SNES one for a couple of years now. It lays music and sounds from Super Mario World. The power switch is actually a button, but it has a very satisfying action. It’s great!
There was a gashapon line of consoles a few years ago, had nearly all the major consoles in perfect 1/6 scale. The PS1 had an opening lid with a disc you could put in, and detachable controllers and memory cards.
Of course when I thought I was done buying Christmas goodies, Clint shows this off. I just had to go for a few things including these two ornaments! Haha.
I have a hallmark keepsake of a christmas wreath that is an MP3 player with docking station. Saw it on dankpods channel. Wish I could find these and of course a PS2 version.
i really want that xbone ornament!! For me, i go for sentimental ornaments! I have so many from childhood..even still the same tree we had growing up! I also put out old christmas photo albums for friends/family to look through when i have a gathering..which is honestly not often tbh...but when i seldomly do..my living room is a time capsule in a way.
Clint "Its almost CHristmas" Me "Hes missing something" His clone waking up in an empty, in a state of being repaired house "Christmas? Christmas!" The clone shivers as the temps are near freezing. He sniffles and makes sad Christmas noises in the dark
:D - How unique and brilliant! (I have to say - though the only thing missing with the monitor is the green power light). Sorry, but I had to mention it, otherwise it is really great!
I saw that Xbox ornament announced this summer and new I needed one. Also grabbed the Master Chief and Xbox Series controller ornaments they put out. I did not put the batteries in my Xbox ornament though, even though I know it could annoy the heck out of my wife, I'm just terrified I'd forget to take the battery out and find a surprise next Christmas
Those are adorable. If I were still putting up regular-sized Christmas trees (I do have one, but it's really small) I would totally want one. Pity they didn't include andy's famous "peperony and chease" message tho.
Weird. Around where I live (Upstate NY), there's still a Hallmark in like all the malls I think. I wouldn't have guessed that they are disappearing elsewhere.
I'm used to seeing electric ornaments plug directly into a light socket in a string of xmas lights. I guess they don't do that anymore or maybe not for these specialty ones.

In the future, they would make all the 3DS/2DS ones, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, PS5, Series S/X and Steam Deck ones.
My mom worked at a Hallmark store for a while. You wouldn't believe what some people spend on ornaments every year. They have an ornament club. 🤣 These are perfect for your mini arcade though!
“You have died of miniature dysentery.”
I guess that micro-computer also has micro-BIOS.
The game doesn't even say that, it says "You have contracted dysentery" and "You have died"

It's just a matter of time for someone to mod that CRT monitor to run Doom on it!
"Master Chief! You Have Died of Dysentery!"
These really feel like people made an effort with them, which is rare for a big brand.
