@@ArtSomething I'm in that same group as I have an android tablet I had to find a procreate alternative which was ibis paint X, but found stencils easier on my laptop
I’ve been practicing this style of stenciling for a while now and I did have one issue I overcame that he didn’t touch in this video. Let’s say you were doing this and you did ever proper step and after you hit the “ invert “ step you have a bunch of black blotches what you do is restart the step process what I do now before even doing the duplicate I’ll take the original photo go to the wand tool and go to “ hue, saturation, brightness “ and make sure there is 100% no color by sliding the saturation to the left then I’ll slide the brightness between 50-60% then continue the duplicate color dodge invert and gaussian process. It’ll prevent any of the black dots / blotches.
Im wondering which of printers will be the best choice for fine lines stipple/pepper shading 0.18/3rl 0.40/1rl ? Epson with ink stencil tank or something small thermal like brother or m08f phomemo. ??
@@ArtSomething just wondering if you have video of the dragonhawk thermal machine on how to use it?thanks in advance let me check laso all of your videos if is it there.
What if you changed the image so it had only the detail stuff, then print it using the stencil printer? Would that not be the best option? I am doing hand stencils so i dont know. Just asking questions lol.
i have the amazon knock off of that printer and it works great! this method of stencil makes me want to try something new for sure! thanks for the tips.
Hey Dave. You said at the end there about to. Much black on the TS app . I found that aswell so I get to the limit, download and then go to the picture in the gallery and edit. Going straight to the eraser and rub out what you don't want in the stencil. Easy to change thickness of the pen tip so you can erase small pieces and if I see something I like in a magazine or similar, I use tracing paper to get the main lines and put it on top of the stencil machine paper and go over with a pencil. Perfect and easy as.
That is a great way to do it as well. Many ways to skin a cat as they say, just have to find what works best for each person and it sounds like you came up with a pretty solid method as well, thank you for sharing it with us.🤘
I need a good tablet to draw which one do you have or recommend? I’m new at this and starting and I just got my transfer machine and I’m trying to update everything

Man what a great video. The first method is awesome I'm actually gonna try it on my next piece. I've been doing it with the trace out method for year's. Great work brother and I also don't like the machines that print the whole purple toned image it's messy.

Hi there what if you want to make a multipage tattoo stencil, like say on 4 pages, what would be the procedure using the same method on procreate? Thanks.
Yeah that sounds about right. I dont believe I was following him just ran across what i believe was a reel on IG. I will have to go see if I can find him and give him a follow as that bit of info was such a gift for me. And thank you for sharing that with me.
Hi Dave...another awesome and informative video...thank you! QUESTION THO - did your stencil print come out black, if so, what transfer paper is this? 🙏🏼 Also, are you saying that your prefer your thermal printer over your Canon printer?
thank you Crystal glad you enjoyed it. The stencil looks like it came through the thermal machine black but its just really dark purple, once it goes onto the skin you will see the purple far more then when its on the stencil paper. And yes I prefer the thermal printer over an inkjet printer, mainly cause I like how much stronger/ longer lasting the stencil is when placed on the skin compared to the inkjet printer. (just personal preference)
@@ArtSomething okay gotcha, so that brings me to this subject - I’m having an issue with the ink NOT coming off the skin once the tattoo is done. I use a thermal printer and say there’s a full circle and then the client doesn’t want a full circle, I can’t get the rest of the ink off the skin..once I’m done. Am I not wiping enough, am I leaving the stencil on too long prior? Or could it be that I’m suppose to wipe the stencil prior to tattooing - like taking the bulk of the ink off first? Another huge question - I do mainly small/fine line tattoos…would an inkjet be more suitable for this? I find the thermal printer doesn’t pick up small details. I have one like yours. I’ve been hand drawing and now wanna switch to something that’s easier. I really appreciate you! Sorry for the story book!
How bout size dimensions vid, i always print like 3 times to get right or is there a vid u recommend ? I wish there was inches measurement to get closer to size that’s wanted
Just stumbled across your channel for the first time noticed the blues and ega's in the background. Where abouts in the states do you tattoo out of I would love to possibly come get some ink done when I get back to the states and show a brother some support
Greatly appreciate the content, definitely helped. No matter how light I made the density on my printer. It would still come out really dark, this helped!!!
I use the pocket version on my iPhone 12 max I can put the saturation down so it becomes black and white after that I can invert the photo but then when I do Gaussian blur I still see the photo when I put the % up it just becomes blurry until it dissolves and the layer just becomes monotone gray. Am I doing something wrong or can’t the pocket version just do it ?
I mainly trace on procreate and then run through the thermal printer. With that said, ive been wanting to get the inkjet printer and transfer ink...... how much you want for yours???
That is how I do many of my stencils but for the more complex ones I really like the new method I use. And while I dont really like the inkjet style printer I also dont want to sell it lol, good thing to have around in the event my other machine shits the bed on me or what not.

In photoshop I believe it’s with ‘unsharp mask’ that with the right settings you can achieve this edge detection line art kind of effect also
Also to simplify the lines I’d try using “refine edge” from a selection of the lines. It has more control than median filter
